I am wondering if anyone has any advice on a new card that would be best for rewards to travel to Hawaii ? I currently have the Chase Sapphire. But dont have enough points. I was looking at Delta amex, i think there is a 70,000 bonus. Hawaiian has a 60,000 bonus. Any advise ? Our preference is to go over Thanksgiving or the christmas/new years break and I need any help I can get on the airfare....OUCH

I won’t use any of those things. Maybe I won’t be getting a CSR in April.

ETA: Dh is a lot more optimistic than I am. He said we could use the doordash credits while the baby is here since we might not want to go out.

The CSR is still a decent proposition as a new card - hopefully an increased SUB might come along with the increased fee - but the SUB and the ability to redeem at 1.5 on the Chase portal make it worth keeping for a year. Don't forget - you can kinda double dip the $300 travel credit and then downgrade to get the balance of the second years AF refunded.

Hopefully! He did spend a ton of time reading back through everything and that alone made me feel better. He opened a case, gave us the number and read to us what he typed up. Said he was escalating it to their highest team and marked it at a ‘highest priority’ level. So I was optimistic getting off the phone. He said to call back on the 14th if we’ve not heard from anyone.

did u ask for pain and suffering credit? :crutches:

Quick takeaways:

$550 AF. Ooof.

Lyft
  • Unlike the Amex Platinum, which offers $200/year ($15/month January-November and $35 in December) in Uber credits, the CSR is offering NO Lyft credits.
  • The CSR is offering ONE YEAR of "Lyft Pink," which gets you a 15% discount on rides and other benefits.
  • You'll earn 10x UR on Lyft (for a year?).
  • 10x UR on Lyft spend is actually pretty good, since Lyft typically does not sell their GCs through third-parties and discounts on Lyft credit can be hard to find.
  • Without factoring the generous earn rate on Lyft, you'll need to spend $1,333.33/year with a 15% discount on Lyft to equal the $200/year credits that the Amex Plat divvies out every month.
  • With 10x UR return on Lyft, the break even is $400/year. (h/t @reliev)
  • You can find Uber GCs on sale for 10-15% off pretty frequently.
  • Quality of service between Lyft and Uber is negligible since most drivers drive for both services.
  • These ride hail services benefit people in major metropolitan areas the most.
  • You really need to ride Lyft a lot to make this benefit work for you.
DoorDash
  • The CSR's new $120 in DoorDash is divvied up $60 in 2020, $60 in 2021. Will you be paying 2x AFs during this period?
  • Unclear from TPG if the DoorDash credit is issued in a lump sum or month-by-month (in which case, that's $5/month!). $60 credit will be available in one lump sum immediately.
  • Unclear from TPG if the DoorDash credit will continue beyond 2021 (if DoorDash is still around by then).
  • By comparison, the Amex Gold's $120 "dining" credit, which includes competitor Grubhub, is calendar year and divvied up $10/month.
  • Again, these food delivery services are most available to people in major metropolitan areas.
  • DoorDash is a pretty scummy company that's been skimming tips from their Dashers.
  • DoorDash is also a failure in safeguarding their customers' data from hacks.

These aren't worth the higher af. It does mean all of ride shares at dlr will be lyft and not a combo with uber.

My biggest thing is when my af is going to post. If it doesn't post before the increase I'll downgrade when it does even though it'll be less than a year. Don't care if I peeve them off cause they can't charge it in a timely manner.

At least the Doordash credit will be available immediately instead of doled out in monthly installments, like Amex's. That makes it more useful. I've never used Doordash before, but I just looked it up. It has Chick fil a and a few other restaurants we eat at in our area. Weirdly, Chuck E Cheese and Baskin Robbins are on there too - who would get delivery from either of those?

Thinking about it again... polar pizza delivery sounds good to me, lol.

UGH! I really hope the person you got was competent today! It seems like a step in the right direction considering he saw all the other notes and calls. Pixie dust it finally works for you!

I would also keep an eye on DHs other Disney accounts after they royally messed up his MDE. I have trust issues 🤣
Well you are right to be suspicious of their IT! My dh’s account is still not right. They got him back on our room, added his AP back and fixed his FPs for the trip but none of the photopass pics that he scanned his band for, showed up in our MM. Also his band never worked to open the door at the resort so something still is wonky there. I’m waiting to call Disney about that though until they fix the Disney+ because I’m sure they’ll break something else in the process 🤦‍♀️

I like that all of this CSR crap is all 'for one year' :badpc:

I'd like to hope it would all keep getting extended so it's as long as you hold the card. :rolleyes2

Let's be real. Both Amex and Chase are partnering with questionable tech companies that need strong partnerships and infusions of cash to stay afloat. The banks are probably getting cut rate deals for these benefits, and their partners are getting cash, and partnerships that'll hopefully bring new and repeat customers. Who knows if DoorDash or Lyft will still be around in a year or two, or what position they'll be in to renegotiate these deals.

does anyone have the lyft pink CSR link or is that active the 12th? might as well do it now i did door dash already :)

In case this info helps: I upgraded my CF to a CSR in mid-August of 2019 and my AF posted on 12/1/19 so on the 4th "first of the month" following my upgrade. What's odd is, you upgraded in September I believe and did not follow the same pattern since you were not charged the AF on 1/1/20. I believe what's been said is that the AF should be charged in 3-6 months following an upgrade so you'd think yours should be charged on 2/1 or 3/1???

So in the article it says:
Existing cardmembers will be able to renew at the current $450 fee, as long as their renewal fee hits prior to April 1, 2020

I'd hope that they would consider you an EXISTING cardmember and that your AF will post prior to the the April 1st date. Keep us posted, hopefully you get in at the $450 number and then you won't have to worry/deal with this until this time next year!
