So, what are people's experiences with booking multiple SW flights on points for one person and then canceling fairly last day, not last minute, but definitely last day or so?

DD wants to join us at Hilton Head but wants to fly home early. If she books say to go home Tuesday, but then decides to stay until Wednesday or even Thursday, will 2-3 booked flights hold or get canceled out? Right now flights are $95 or about 6k points but closer to date will be more like $300+, so I want to lock in her indecision. She says she will pay whatever when she is ready to leave, but, but, but......I need to know the best price is attained.

We arrive Sunday at the resort and are booked through until Saturday for 6 nights. She says she only wants to be there 2 nights, but could stay longer if she's enjoying herself.

I think I have a backup plan, but right now I am working this one.

Older daughter has found nonrefundable Frontier flights for like $43, however I'm locked into my own ideas. It's barely an hour and a half nonstop....stops are out of the question.
I don't think we know for sure. Originally it was thought that flights booked a day apart were safe, but I recently had one canceled when booking a day apart. I guess if it was me, you could book them all. But then you would have to be prepared to have SW make the decision for your DD for when she leaves if they end up canceling a flight, unless you want to pay the last minute prices.

I have never had an issue with a couple of 'maybe' flights booked as long as it isn't on the same day....someone here is more of an expert than I am tho.... (sorry I can't recall who gave me that info when I asked a few weeks back) right now I'm 'holding' some just in case and all good so far. I've cancelled really close to time and never had a problem.

Spent a frustrating morning chatting with the IRS. Asking a question about the new section 199A dividends mutual funds are listing. (Got a couple from Vanguard funds) Last year there was not a form, this year there is (8995) and the instructions are clear as mud. The IRS guy actually told me 'we are not allowed to talk about this form, you have to pay a tax preparer'. I told him that's why people love the IRS. From searching, even people using TurboTax are having trouble with this form. It should be a very simple calculation. At this rate I will probably end up paying more taxes than I should by not claiming the deduction. Sigh.

Ooh, looks like form 8995-A might work. Wonder why the IRS guy couldn't tell me that! I have had some really helpful people when I call and some real duds.

Thanks! We are looking at that site for the insurance for our Italy trip as well. How do you answer the question about which country if the cruise goes to multiple countries?
It's the first country you visit for cruises. Since ours leaves out of Copenhagen I'll put Copenhagen. I never buy the cancel for any reason insurance. I was considering it for this trip, but they really have the prices jacked up. I'll probably do what I normally do and wait until 56 days out when I'm at a point where I will lose more than the deposit and then I'll purchase comprehensive insurance. Most of the time I only purchase medical coverage. I forgot to buy any insurance on our last cruise. It really depends on what I paid for the cruise and what my risk tolerance is. I've sailed 25 times and have never filed a claim...knock on wood.

Can I share my extreme frustration with Chase?

I tried to log into my account this morning and got a pop-up saying my account has been locked due to suspected fraudulent activity (could it be because I set up and paid my AmEx personal and biz plat cards last night?). I called to unlock and they asked for my business debit card number, which I gave them. Then they said they would send me a pin code via text; oops, the rep said she wasn't able to send a text to my phone (she didn't indicate why). She is now insisting that I visit a branch since I can't recall the pin code for my biz debit card (I don't even know if I set one up). I asked if we could use my personal debit card for verification, but she said it's not possible. She insisted that I go to a branch. I really hate when companies outsource their call centers (this CSR is located in India). She literally could not deviate from her limited script. I have now been on hold for over 15 minutes while I am transferred to a representative in the US to see if they can unlock my account.

Has anyone else had their accounts locked with a bank? I'm an outlier by age and I've never in my life had any of my accounts locked.

ETA: the CSR in the US was able to send me a text and verify my account (he has no idea why the CSR in the call center wasn't able to send me a text). He confirmed they locked my account because of the large payment to my AmEx biz plat. He asked me why I was paying such a large amount, to which I replied that I was paying my statement. He asked why my statement would be that much money. I told him I wasn't going to answer that question unless he gave me a valid reason why he needed to know, to which he replied "you are using our product to pay and we have a right to know". I told him that I disagreed with him, it's my money and no need for them to know how I'm spending it. He said they have every right to know when I'm using their product to pay (I don't agree with this -- if I was asking to borrow money, then yes they have a right to ask how how I'd be spending it, but not when it's my money!). He said if I didn't want to tell him why my bill was so high then I should use a third party to pay my statement. I am shocked that they think they have a right to question how I spend my money. At my outlier age, I don't feel the need to justify to anyone how I spend my money. Sheesh. I am seriously considering moving my accounts from Chase. He also said that the CSR in the outsourced call center shouldn't have been asking about my biz account since the issue was with my personal account. Rant over. Thanks for allowing me to vent!

I have booked my son flying home on 2 different dates so far with no issue on SW, then once his days off are approved we cancel the flight that’s not going to be used.
I don’t add his SW RR number to either flight until we know which one he is taking

Do you think leaving off his RR number is the key? I've had SW cancel flights on me when I was double booked but I have to enter my RR to use my points so I'm kind of stuck in that regard.

I’m not sure, we are using RR points for his flights but from my or DHs accounts.
I’m pretty sure once you are signed in and making the reservation you can delete or just not add the RR number

This is just all sorts of bizarre. It would not be anyone's business what I was using my money for - paying bills or buying a car with cash. If you didn't fill out a survey on your call, I would definitely send in feedback. That was just outrageous.

So I went in and did a speculative booking for Moonlight Madness in October. Speculative in that I'm not actually sure I'll go but in that I have a DVC room on that night booked. It is Moonlight Madness at Hollywood Studios. My regular visit is booked for end of the month to early November, but I could move that around a bit or leave as is.
I'm also still antsy to do another spring trip in March or April - I have points, gift cards, tickets, I'm retired with no job or responsibilities and a car that gets 50mpg - what do I have to lose?

I also booked my 50k certificate as well. Cash price is $574 plus 33.75 in fees. At least I will 'feel' as if I'm getting value. This is all subject to change, lol. Meanwhile I have to go in and book a waitlist for my preferred resort.
The points rooms for the April dates were gone - I'd switch if I could and use the cert then.

Yes, I’m going to book flights for August (the cheapest I can find), then as soon as it opens I’ll rebook for the real dates. It just takes too much time to type in info for 4 people.
Okay, thank you. That makes sense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you'll have to pay whatever the cost is for the real dates b/c this isn't a loophole time frame?

I'm with you, so frustrating!! I agree, guards in place against fraud are one thing. But once they know it is your account and yes you meant to pay that amount...end of story. Have a nice day. I get that the banking world has to safeguard against many things, but to ask why your bill was so high...none of your business! Just pay my bill with my money!
