I'm seeing DP or Delta and Air Canada allowing customers to cancel flights to italy. Cost of flights is a credit with the airline to be used in a certain timeframe, not full refund. IMO the airlines are getting burnt financially and are not contractually obligated to make refunds/free changes, so it's a nice gesture on their part.

We have a cruise in August (so far only deposit paid) and I'm feeling skittish since the situation seems to be moving so quickly right now - who knows if it will blow over or get worse by then. I still have 5 weeks before I need to pay in full...

I totally sympathize about feeling skittish. We have a trip booked to China in October, and who knows what or how the situation will be by then. So far, the tour company is only rescheduling out to May. We've paid a deposit, did not get trip insurance, and our final payment is due in May. (We booked back in Sept 2019 prior to any indication that any issue would arise.) Every day I struggle with my pessimistic side that says "I should just take the $600 loss and cancel the trip", and my optimistic side which says "It'll probably be over by then!" It's so difficult not having a plan right now. My plan is to wait and see....

We had a weird experience at staples just now. We went to get disney gcs and visa gcs. Dh and I have always been able to get one visa each. The lady was adamant that it’s one per household and wasn’t going to let us each get one. Dh went and looked at the rack which said one per customer. She still wasn’t going to let us until another worker said if we’re using separate credit cards it shouldn’t be an issue. We were eventually able to get one each but that was kind of a headache

We had the same thing happen on Sunday. The manager was standing at the registers and said one per household. He was in a terrible mood, so I didn't push asking to split payment on the one VGC. My DH and I checked out at different registers with different cards and he didn't say anything to us. We haven't had any other issues since.

Glad I didn’t ask DH to stop at Staples by the supermarket on Sunday, he would not of been happy if that happened.

Wow, how bizarre! I don’t blame you for being irritated. I would’ve told him something stupid like “I bought a plane” just to screw with him.:rotfl2:
I wanted to say something sarcastic, but I got the impression this guy would've taken me seriously, so I bit my tongue.

Interesting that I just got an e-mail notification that there was a letter posted to my account. Which would've been impossible to read if my account was still locked.

I just got a notice from the processing agency that I'm using for our Russian visas saying that "your hair appears to be edited oddly when the associate was erasing the background". The picture wasn't edited -- Walgreen's took the pic with my back to the white screen and printed it. So what exactly are they implying about my hair? I brushed it and even wore makeup to have the picture taken.

Honestly the Russian visas have been more of a pain then I ever could've imagined. I am contemplating changing our itineraries to avoid Russia. Maybe it's best if we visit another time on a Baltic cruise where we won't need the visa.

The lady said her manager told her one per household. Dh argued that the sign clearly says one per customer. And how would they even know if we live in the same household? We don’t like going to staples anyway because it’s way out of the way so we might not be doing much MSing there in the future. The lady wasn’t rude at all, she just didn’t want to get in trouble which I understand. She apologized many times even after letting us get them in the end

Can I share my extreme frustration with Chase?

I tried to log into my account this morning and got a pop-up saying my account has been locked due to suspected fraudulent activity (could it be because I set up and paid my AmEx personal and biz plat cards last night?). I called to unlock and they asked for my business debit card number, which I gave them. Then they said they would send me a pin code via text; oops, the rep said she wasn't able to send a text to my phone (she didn't indicate why). She is now insisting that I visit a branch since I can't recall the pin code for my biz debit card (I don't even know if I set one up). I asked if we could use my personal debit card for verification, but she said it's not possible. She insisted that I go to a branch. I really hate when companies outsource their call centers (this CSR is located in India). She literally could not deviate from her limited script. I have now been on hold for over 15 minutes while I am transferred to a representative in the US to see if they can unlock my account.

Has anyone else had their accounts locked with a bank? I'm an outlier by age and I've never in my life had any of my accounts locked.

ETA: the CSR in the US was able to send me a text and verify my account (he has no idea why the CSR in the call center wasn't able to send me a text). He confirmed they locked my account because of the large payment to my AmEx biz plat. He asked me why I was paying such a large amount, to which I replied that I was paying my statement. He asked why my statement would be that much money. I told him I wasn't going to answer that question unless he gave me a valid reason why he needed to know, to which he replied "you are using our product to pay and we have a right to know". I told him that I disagreed with him, it's my money and no need for them to know how I'm spending it. He said they have every right to know when I'm using their product to pay (I don't agree with this -- if I was asking to borrow money, then yes they have a right to ask how how I'd be spending it, but not when it's my money!). He said if I didn't want to tell him why my bill was so high then I should use a third party to pay my statement. I am shocked that they think they have a right to question how I spend my money. At my outlier age, I don't feel the need to justify to anyone how I spend my money. Sheesh. I am seriously considering moving my accounts from Chase. He also said that the CSR in the outsourced call center shouldn't have been asking about my biz account since the issue was with my personal account. Rant over. Thanks for allowing me to vent!
That would have made me mad enough to switch banks. I pulled all my money out of Capital One online savings when they said they were going to reserve the right to limit how much I could withdraw at one time. (and they would not specify what amount would be allowed, they could just decide to decline a withdrawal whenever they wanted o_O) My main checking at PNC is attached to many things, like credit card automatic payment and investment accounts, so it would be a pain to switch, but if I got mad enough...

Hell I'm ready to drop my Chase cards over them not having a customer service email and their CSR's not having any clue what they are talking about. If they tried to hold my money I'd be closing things on the spot. lol

We are in such a lull right now... SW CP season is past us. There aren't a lot of exciting offers circulating right now. You can see comment volume down here, on r/churning, really everywhere! Hopefully something will come along to inject some positive excitement into the air!

So I've made five trips to Staples so far. Will have enough in money orders to pay my mortgage Friday. Also swung by Lowe's to pick up a Kroger gift card for 4x fuel points. Have maxed out both my Lowe's and Staple's Amex offers. I have also used all but one of my Staples Chase offers.

I also finally used my Amazon Amex 20% off. DS's Xbox tv broke so I let him take the tv in the family room. Figured I'd replace my 40" in the family room (I know that's tiny) with a 43". Got $50 off.

This sounds like a Know Your Customer inquiry to me.

OT - I posted this in the Swagbucks thread but figured I would post here too since some of you use Swagbucks:

If you had 2450 SB and always cash in for Visa GC, would you cash in now for 2450 or wait until Sunday when it will be 2100?

Trying to decide if I should cash in now and then still get a discounted one next month anyway since I usually get 2-3 GCs a month.

We're going to WDW in September and I'm sure it will be fine. I've got Aerosmith in Boston the same month. Honestly I'm glad we don't have any travel planned before that.

I didn't end up booking the British Isles cruise on DCL for September today. I didn't feel comfortable laying about the $1,000+ deposit the way things are now, virus + stock market wise.

Thanks! I'm excited to try it today. Not sure if we'll use the upgraded boardings on this flight. We got decent spots and I'd have to use 3 of them. We'll definitely try out the wifi though!

Thanks! I figured that would be the case, but wasn't sure.
I’ll be trying the same next week. Short weekend trip, carryon only, and I didn’t want to pay for EBCI so I’ll try to use the upgraded boarding. DS will like the free WiFi.

Ha. I made DH stop last Saturday and he managed 2 $100 DGCs on 2 different cards. He made an epic shopping trip because he went to Trader Joe’s and Aldi too. Plus a local grocery store. Payback for me doing the taxes.

But we always have Poptarts and Baby Yoda to talk about.

I’m pretty sure ours is smaller. If we ever move, I might upgrade but right now it’s fine.

I lived in Russia for a year, and beurocracy there is kafkaesque. I feel for you!!!

I did $330 in GC tonight at Staples (2 transactions) with no problems tonight. DH has 2 promos on his cards, so I'm sending him over this weekend. We haven't had any issues there with limits (yet, fingers crossed).
We haven’t had any issues with the disney gcs. The visa gcs were the ones that gave us the issue

I'm not usually a panicking person, I do research for a living and think very logically (statistical probability of an accident, etc), but the newness of the virus, the unreliable data out of China, the shifting situation, etc. has me unnerved. And, frankly, the idea of being sick on a cruise ship sounds like a nightmare! I'm not really a cruise person to begin with (too crowded)!

We have travel insurance, but not "cancel for any reason" insurance.
