Oh but be careful, apparently not agreeing with everyone that it's fantastic or thinking knowing the history might help more than prelistening to the soundtrack, and I'm sure now this comment, will get you an angry reaction. For our opinions. I get that reaction is there, but I don't find it useful on a message board that is largely based on people's opinions. If you don't agree, great move on our explain why but don't get angry and then react with that.

I can also appreciate what Hamilton is and what's been done with it without actually liking it. So I'll go back to watching She's the Man and also add that Hamilton is better than Thoroughly Modern Millie and that has that fantastic Julie Andrews in it. That was a hard one to keep watching.
I absolutely loved it! But I can see how not everyone might feel the same way. I’m a military lawyer who used to dance and do musical theater growing up, so I feel like it was literally made for me. But it is definitely a musical turned up to 11 with there being no dialogue. Different strokes for different folks and all that jazz that makes the world go round...I was worried I wouldn’t like it on the TV and almost wasn’t going to watch it there first without having seen it live, but it sucked me right in.

I think they did a great job adapting the stage show to the screen. It's one of the things about Rent that kind of bugs me about the movie version. They did it so well on stage and making that work that to do it as a movie, even with most of the original cast, it's still hard and not the same. I'd rather it have been done like they did Hamilton, though I could have done without the spit shot, though I know that happens both with singing and playing instruments, I had enough issues playing clarinet over the years but don't need to see it :)

Yes, absolutely. Rent is definitely the show that made me weary of watching on TV first. Although, I watched Rent on stage first with the original cast, so maybe had I done it the other way around I wouldn’t have been as disappointed in the film version as much. Chicago was another one (although not as bad as Rent) that didn’t translate as well.

I saw Rent on stage before the movie so I can't say but agree it might be different if I'd seen it as a movie. Though I saw Guys and Dolls on stage, granted it was a high school show but very well done, before I saw the movie and I think it's very well done for the movie. But I also enjoy Sinatra and Brando in it so I don't know that it would have made a difference and I think it translates a bit better. We saw a local production of Meet Me in St. Louis a few years ago and it was good but it was a bit weird seeing it on the stage.

I haven't seen Chicago on stage or the movie, only the bit I think they showed on Fosse Verdon. And I do home they really do and can bring Bombshell from Smash to broadway, I think it'd be super fun. I'm also still mad at myself for not going to see Romy & Michelle when it was premiered here a few years ago so I'm hoping something does happen with it enough that it comes back to Seattle.

I just finished Hamilton. I thought it was absolutely AMAZING! I can’t wait to see it in person one day.
Add me to the camp of “I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!” Back in 2015 when it became a phenomenon, I lived in New York and obsessively tried to get tickets for months. They were sold out and going for upwards of $1000. So I was thrilled when I learned this was coming to Disney+ early. I have listened to the soundtrack for years, and also am a big fan of Lin Manuel Miranda and his work, so maybe that helped, but maybe it didn’t. In my opinion, the “cabinet” battles were the best part. Daveed Diggs!!

I love both versions of Rent. I do have a really hard time with anyone else playing Roger. I saw it with Anthony and Adam, and while Mark was great the last time we saw the tour, Roger just fell flat.
Chicago, I actually prefer the movie to the stage show for some reason.
We haven’t watched Hamilton yet on TV, probably Sunday. Live I thought it was a marvel to watch. But I was surprised at how the emotion snuck up on me at the end. It’s not my very favorite but it it’s so amazingly done.

The problem I have with the 'angry' imoji is trying to figure out if the person is angry with me or just angry in a different way such as at a situation. 'Like' is sort of like an acknowledgement. Again, it's difficult sometimes to read intent on the internet.

In person, I loved Hamilton, but have never been a fan of rap music. Still not. I'm not an opera fan either but can appreciate it. But watching 'live' Hamilton in a theater the whole experience came together. My only issue was sitting in a not so comfy seat for so long.

Yes, there is something about the original cast of rent. The first I saw was just a tour, the 2nd time was in like 08 maybe when some of the original toured again. It was so good but I'd rather listen to the soundtrack than watch the movie.

I didn't expect to tear up at the end of Hamilton and I didn't until they brought Eliza into it and were able to show her love and devotion to him. She had quite the life with him but she had quite the life after him as well. The one thing that kept getting me was Chris Jackson, I didn't know until a few months ago that he'd done broadway and been in Hamilton and had forgotten, so when I saw him as Washington all I could think about was, it's Chunk, doing a really awesome job but it's Chunk. (He's on Bull, on CBS which is what I'm used to.)

Totally agree, I know sometimes it does get used because Chase or something nerfed something or whatever, I get that, but it's been used in different situations when it does seem the person is angry at the comment or the person saying it rather than the situation. And when everyone around here, for the most part let's be honest, gets along well etc, it kinda sucks when I see it used most of the time. And maybe I don't notice it elsewhere, but I don't see it used very much anywhere on the boards which is also why I don't understand why they have it, unless it can't be removed and if you want some you get them all.

No - I’d actually never heard of it until you mentioned it. Why do you ask? I happened to play the scarecrow in my senior year musical lol.

You mentioned neat and unique, both of which fit Return to Oz amongst other things. But again, it's not a kids movie and I saw it as a kid. It's really the most creepy Disney movie out there and is an actual Disney movie, not just on d+ because of stuff they've bought.

I can see you as the scarecrow  Little more sideshow bob but we'll pretend that's hay :)

My Hamilton advice is to listen to soundtrack before seeing it! I haven't watched the TV version yet but absolutely loved the live one in Chicago!

Hamilton is my favorite musical. We’ve seen it 7 times in NYC, DC, SF, Chicago and Ft. Lauderdale. Rent used to be my favorite but that’s now my 2nd favorite. I am not a fan of rap music, operas or history. I read the lyrics while listening to the soundtrack long before seeing the show. I think that helped me appreciate the genius of the writing.

I love she’s the man!!!

DH finally made it home and we are at intermission....I am loving it but I wasn’t expecting to be so sad. It really hurts knowing that live theatre is not coming back anytime soon. I spent ten years doing theatre, first semi-professionally and then as my career, and there’s nothing like the magic of being backstage as part of the team putting on a show. Every single person we are seeing onstage for as part of the Hamilton cast and everyone off stage - the orchestra, the person pressing “go” on the light board, the wardrobe crew washing and pressing all those white cravats every night, the ushers, the stagehands flying in the lights during the wedding scene - they’re all out of work. Most of them probably will be for at least a year. And knowing that really sucks, even as much as I am enjoying seeing this production again 💔💔💔

anyway, I know things are hard everywhere, but spare a thought for the theatre folk, is my point.

I loved it! I am huge musical fan and my kids were all invoked with drama club in HS. I chaperoned on multiple trips to NYC with them. One of which was a Broadway Summit Workshop. The kids from our drama club all participated and got to work with actors from the show and see the show too. Unfortunately I couldn’t get tickets ( it was only for the participants) but I went to see another show ( Miss Saigon) with another mom while they were at it. One of my favorites that I saw during one of the trips was Dear Evan Hansen.

Happy 4th of July! No plans for me and hoping the neighbors don't do fireworks because my dog hates them.

My kids come home today and the ex's dog goes back to his parents!!! He's super cute but barks incessantly at the tv, delivery trucks, people walking by the house, etc. My dog is not an indoor barker. He's also whiney. He's been pretty good with her so I can't complain too much.

And seriously I desperately need a vacation. Eight weeks until we head to Northern Michigan.

On Hamilton, I'm waiting to watch it with DD. She saw it in Chicago with me last year and with her dad in Richmond. I appreciate its uniqueness but I struggled to follow the story. I loved the King:)

I'm another huge fan of Hamilton 2020. Most great shows have a few moments of genius and/or a few moments that give you chills or bring the emotions. For me, Hamilton has these moments like every ten minutes. I've seen the live show twice, and I've watched a bunch of bootlegs, but even though I know what's coming, I still got chills and tears multiple times throughout the show.

Honestly, it's not my favorite musical to watch, probably not even in my top 5, but it makes the top 10. (Maybe that's because I've seen it and listened to the soundtrack too many times?). I still respect the heck out of it, though, especially Lin Manuel Miranda's writing. I mean, seriously, you pick up a book on Alexander Hamilton, and it prompts you to start writing songs that blend rap and pop and classical broadway? It's too crazy to imagine.
