On a somewhat related note, once you've been shutdown by Chase they may use it in the future as a reason to deny you cards. I'm not sure there is any conclusive guideline on when you can apply again. u/cuvervic on r/churning and their P2 were both shutdown in 2016. They both attempted an application using the leaked/manipulated links and both were denied and provided the following reason:

Dear XXX:
We reviewed your recent application for a new CHASE SAPPHIRE Visa Signature account, but we did not approve it because:
A prior credit card or deposit account was closed by Chase
If you have questions, please call us at 1-800-290-1316; we accept operator relay calls. We are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
Sincerely,
Card Services

Moral of the story...don't get shutdown... haha!
yikes

Anyone with an old IHG card ($49 select) get a FNC after the May switch over to restricted certs? I don't get my next one until Jan. I thought they didn't say anything in the terms about being restricted but you couldn't actually book a hotel higher than 40k even if it came up in search. Does that sound familiar?

Bit of discussion about it looking unrestricted again but I can't tell for sure and I have to run -

That's hubby's family "It's all about the sides" is literally their mantra. They'd get a 20 lbs turkey for 16 people and eat it all weekend (3 nights plus a little left for turkey soup). The one year I counted 4 different types of stuffing, another year there were enough pies for each adult to have one for themselves (they were eating pie for breakfast just to make a dent in it. It's fruit right?). Plus we celebrate a couple birthdays so there's a cake too. (Couldn't sell putting a candle in one of the pies)
After all these years I'm still not sure how they always manage to fit it all on the table.

OTOH my fam would do a 20lbs turkey for 6  And sometimes Mom would go crazy and go bigger, I think the record was 26 lbs? She did agree that it was too big but not because of the amount - she didn't like the cook on it so she agreed we should stick with a smaller bird. We cook for a small army but we like leftovers. This would be a travesty in our house -
We will have 11 people. 20 lb turkey, 4 pies, stuffing, baked Mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, crescent rolls, Brussels sprouts with bacon, homemade cranberry sauce, and crudités platter & charcuterie board for apps.
Oh and BIL will make a ham or leg of lamb because he doesn’t eat poultry.

I have two, but they are currently holding some rooms for January that we may or may not use, so I can't check right now.

Is 62,000 HH points a night a horrible deal for a suite near Disneyland? Is it worth the extra 10,000-20,000 HH pts/night to stay within walking distance to the parks? I just received my bonus points for my Hilton biz and we are working on MSR for 2 more Hilton cards right now, so having enough points isn't an issue, but I don't want to waste points either. I was hoping to lock in a room, but the Double Tree and Homewood Suites we were looking at are both sold out on Saturday night for the suites we were looking at originally that were 50,000 pts/ night. We're planning 5 nights since 5th night is free, but only doing 2 park days. I'm up in the air on whether we should stay a little farther out or just spend the extra points to stay near the parks... Do HH points ever fluctuate with cash prices or are they set no matter what the cash price is? Some of the suites around DL have insane point redemptions!
They fluctuate but some places don't. For example the Grand Wailea standard redemption is always 95k and I have never seen it below that any time I have looked. However, the HGI my family stayed at last weekend went down in price/points at the last minute.
Also, be sure the suite is a standard reward and not premium, b/c 5th night isn't free for premium rewards.

Probably not a good datapoint but DH's was issued 5/29 and I just tested out a redemption for a 50K room without a problem.

What's the cash price for the room including taxes? I aim for at least 0.4 cent per point. So is the cash rate above $248?

Since you're only doing 2 park days, staying further might not be too bad. Would you bus/drive/Uber? What are you other plans? Would the other places be convenient for those plans?

Happy almost Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Just checking in to read the latest with everyone since I've been chasing my tail since starting work. Trying to knock out some Christmas shopping online today and catch up on bills etc. I work tomorrow night, so I bought the Costco Thanksgiving feast plus a tray of Mac n cheese to make tomorrow easy and light clean up.

Has anyone stayed at POP during pop Warner. I just changed my resort to pop instead of AKL since it will save me $550 but then I remembered the football players will be there. Luckily, not the cheerleaders. Think it will be ok or should I just go back to AKL?

Called Amex Retention line for gold card. Got 20,000 MR for $3K spend in 90 days. there was also a $150 statement credit for the same spend available. Interesting when the rep looked at my MR balance she was very impressed and I had to bite my tongue and not say, I'm not even at half a million. I know MR multi-millionaires.

If we're doing Thanksgiving menus, here's mine:
Devilled eggs, Turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce (homemade), roasted Brussels sprouts, sauteed string beans with garlic, garlic mashed potatoes, roasted butternut squash, purple sweet potato "fries" with old bay, cole slaw, beet salad, Nantucket cranberry pie, apple and sour cherry crumble.

I need to go grab a pie or something at publix. I kind of forgot about dessert. The pies at costco were waaayyy too big.

Thanks for mentioning the premium reward info, the suites are premium rewards, but standard rooms are not. Are free night certificates redeemable for premium rooms? I have one weekend night certificate we could potentially use for the trip if it makes sense.

Cash price on that room is only $210, so only just over .03 cents/ point. We plan to rent a car because the kids need car/ booster seats and we plan to go to the beach and a Dodgers game outside of Anaheim. I've read parking at DL is a nightmare, but it seems like that might be our best option if we want more space.

We got a dusting... However funny story... So I told DD that a large snow storm cell was approaching and she got scared asking if it would be loud and scary so I went on to tell her it would not and its just snow and thunder/lightning is super uncommon ect... Less than 5mins later the whole house lights up and the instant clap of thunder. Shoot! Well I explain that was super uncommon but really cool! She didn't buy it so told her when it happens its just one or two as the storm comes in and it'll quite down and just snow... Snow turns to hail, constant thunder and lightning... Made me a lier again. :rotfl2: I loved it! Was out on the porch enjoying it!

Sounds somewhat like what they call Thunder Snow around here.

Now THAT is where it is at! I don't even have any music on my phone...I could just buy these, put them in my ears, and pretend, just to look cool!
My last couple of phones came with a set of earbuds. And I also have no music on my phone. I also have Sirius or whatever it is in my car and it's free until February and haven't used it yet. They keep sending emails and I have no time to bother with them. They've already reduced the price if I sign up.

Free nights are standard awards only. If you're not going to get 5th night free anyways, maybe you'd want to consider a split stay?

I've got mine. It does look unrestricted but will not work on anything over 40K. I've tried it twice now.
