I have a couple of AA holds right now for next summer: DEN-MAD, and ZRH-DEN for 3 people. Total for taxes/fees is less than $190 + 180K AA miles. I checked the cash fare for the seats and it's $4700, which works out to ~2.5 cpp. I love that AA allows a 5 day hold (no charge) while you decide. I'm thinking we'll make our way from Madrid to Barcelona, to Lake Como and catching the Bernina Express to Zurich. Off to read some blogs!
Awesome, I am planing the reverse trip on the Bernina Express. Would love to know what your reading. This really ups my interest in AA. I need to figure out which Citi to go with.

Yeah, it's a dealer thing. The Toyota where we bought DH's hybrid RAV4 allowed us to fund $4k, and let us split it on a couple different CCs which was nice to help meet MSRs.

I know the AmEx Biz Gold has a 20K support bonus. It also has a $295 AF, earns 4x for the top 2 categories out of 6 (dining, gas, shipping, select technology providers, airfare, advertising) each month with an annual cap of $150K combined spend in those categories. And almost as good as the Biz Plat, it offers a 25% rebate on airfare paid for with points (on your selected airline, or First or Biz on any airline). It's a nice card, and with even one cross-support, the AF is 2/3 covered. I think I might actually keep mine for another year. (Especially since I got it during the glitch when the AF wasn't posting.) The SUB is 50K/$5K/3mo.

If you're hoping for the Platicorn though, the conventional wisdom is that you can get that if you have no other MR cards. That said, earlier this year I got the 20K support for the approval on P2's vanilla Plat that pulled up at 75K incognito. So that worked out to 95K total, and you may be able to pull the same incognito offer.
Wow, I was not aware of the "25% rebate on airfare paid for with points (on your selected airline, or First or Biz on any airline)"! Also, I have seen it mentioned many times but what is the Platicorn? I have not pushed my DH into churning at all. I mentioned a couple of months ago that if he got the SW card he could get some free flights out of it for the kids and he didn't completely shut it down. I might think about referring him and then just make the spend so he doesn't lose his mind over it and then just sock draw them. I probably need to look into what points can or can't be transferred to my FF accounts though right?

DW wanted a new car so we got one in Jan during financing the dealer asked what we wanted to put down and how so I jokingly said $5k on my CC and he said OK give me the card and we can make that happen. ALMOST turned to the wife and said we need to push this out two weeks so I can go home and apply for a new card! Figured that was not a good idea as she already waited a long time for this. Never thought I could put that much or any on a CC.
We bought a new Subaru in June and I asked if we could put any on credit card and they told us the maximum was $2K, I was pretty happy about that, $5K sounds even better!

Thanks!

We bought the 2019 Kia Niro (non-touring) hybrid in April. Dh is getting 55-60 mpg and fills up once a month now, instead of once a week.

I'm planning on a plug-in to replace my 2002 Grand Caravan, but I need to wait a year or two. I've mentioned before that I'd love to get VW's reimagined-to-electric Bus whenever it becomes available. I really want something that with a long range so we can roadtrip in it!

@Judique we'll be driving our Niro down to WDW in March :car:

Yesterday I was so busy running around I put 120 miles on the Niro. And, I was watching for other Niro drivers and all I saw was a Prius! Starting to think I had the only one manufactured.

I love this group. Today because I've found another Niro driver. I already love most things with the car. I don't love that my side mirrors lower when I'm backing up, as I'm used to parking in teeny spaces using my own skills, so I'm not even using the back up camera - forget it's there. I'll adapt, I'm sure.

I was going to drive my van even after my purchase, but now I'm driving the Niro.

My DD is eyeing my Jeep also. I don't love it, feels too big for me but do love all the safety features it has which is why I bought it. I called around until I found a dealer that would let me pay the down payment with a cc. This dealer said I could put as much as I wanted on the cc so I put 10k down :) I would probably consider trading in if I found a 0 to low finance option. I would like to take the VW Atlas for a test drive. I'm going to try to rent one during my January trip.

10K is fantastic! I asked and the salesman said he thought it was 5K, so I didn't ask any further, because I could cover that from my checking without having to move money from retirement savings, along with the rest of the cost. Most of my day was spent yesterday transferring the jeep to my daughter. Last day of the month and she was working and taking off for her was inconvenient due to workload, so Mom did her thing. Gift letter, power of attorney, couldn't find the lien release letter from 2010 (had the title but in Maryland I needed both. Navy Federal came through in 10 minutes by faxing the letter to MVA for me, love that bank! Gift letter meant no required inspection which is only $79 but it's all the time these things take, plus no tax and whatever else. The whole transfer cost $110. She saved $20 by keeping the tags also. I didn't even know they allowed that.
And this reminded me I have to add the Kia to my Sunpass and EZ pass today.

I was a GM girl growing up as all my uncles worked there. The Trailblazer was MY SUV! I think I had 4. I had a Traverse 18 mos before I had to jump ship! I HATED the Traverse!!!! My BFF worked at Chrysler and got me the ULTIMATE discount to get me to switch brands. I did....and it's been love ever since! I've now had 4 Jeep Grand Cherokees. My ex had the liberty and since then two wranglers (which is fun, and I'd LOVE a purple one, but not my thing). I did switch back to a Terrain for 2 years to make sure I qualified for my mortgage (during the divorce). I can't believe how much I missed my Jeep. When I got into it in June (when I got it), I honestly hugged the steering wheel, LOL! I won't be straying again.

We are a Jeep family. That said, when the 14yo gets her license, we'll be leasing her something cheap (small SUV) and I'm thinking it'll likely be a GM. She wants a white wrangler, LOL (her dad's is currently grey, so if he gave her his, she'd have to suck it up). It's crazy to think she starts driver's training this winter so we'll be a 3 car "family" soon. AHHHHH!

I will be watching for Kia Niro road trip reports from you and @Judique!

Yes! Since I have 2 and 1/2 years warranty and 52K warranty remaining miles I'll be putting quite a few of my travel miles on the Kia. That also will depend on how many passengers as I probably won't use it if I have 4 passengers as then cargo space is tight for suitcases. (We bring a LOT of stuff.) The big van will still be my Ocean City beach vehicle, unless someone else drives also.

That's interesting, I bit on the IHG offer also but mostly because the guy kept saying I could cancel at any time. No worries your a plat member yada yada. I tried to book one resv and it didn't work out so I asked to cancel and they were like "Oh no you can't cancel". Sounds like maybe I should try to dispute it.

Yes! I mean I did "file" a dispute w/ IHG, so not sure if that helped my case. But Chase totally got my money back! As I said, I googled and saw others stating they stayed on property. And I've seen the Hilton and Marriott vacation offers, and I know you stay on property....so I was SHOCKED this offer puts you into ANY IHG property. When I called she's like it costs more to stay on property. I'm like you said the ONLY added cost was during Christmas and Spring Break. Apparently that wasn't "enough" for IHG to refund me. But Chase took care of it :)

I'm thinking of getting a Motherlode for my brother for his birthday while it's on sale and the Amex offer is going on. Right now, topcashback is still at 15%, but it does not mention the coupon you need to apply on the ebags website to bring the price down to $89. Do you think topcashback will track if I apply the coupon code to my order?

It's best to stack the eBags offer with a high % payout (15-20%) from a shopping portal like TopCashBack and Ebates/Rakuten. eBags also runs 20% off sales frequently, but these sales have major brand exclusions.

eBags will not combine gift card balances and limits you to using only one gift card per order, however you can still stack the eBags Amex Offers if you have them on two cards by using one offer to buy a gift card, then applying that gift card to another order for the item(s) you want to buy and paying the $125+ remaining balance with the card with the second offer.

I previously posted some more stacking tips here:

I got the new Verizon Amex Offers, Spend $500+ / Get $100 back on my card and Spend $500+ / Get 10,000 MR on DW’s card. This offer appears to be highly targeted and found only on personal cards. The terms say to spend $500+ in a single purchase, but it seems like gift cards may work. The terms do not exclude gift cards, and Verizon sells $100 gift cards with a max quantity of 5 ($100x5 =$500). Commenters on DoC are testing this out.

Verizon also sells iPhones for retail so there’s an opportunity to stack offers on two cards by buying $500 worth of gift cards, then using those gift cards and the card with second Amex Offer in a separate purchase to save on a $1,000+ iPhone 11 Pro purchase. (In my case, I'd save $100 and get 10,000 MR). Otherwise, I suppose you could do a split purchase with 2 cards in store.

This works out to be about 20% off the 64GB/$999 model, but that’s way too little storage. Stacking these offers would be about 16% off the 256GB/$1,149 model including tax.

I'm seriously considering turning my ebates into MR..altho from the DP's I read,it won't apply to the cash I'm getting on the 15th,just future purchases....am I crazy?

I'm thinking this will be our next new card. Just have to decide whether to PC DH's CIP to it, or just apply outright.
I'm trying to decide right now too....... altho I p2's CIP is about 9 months old,so unsure if I can even PC yet..... or I'm due for something new right now and seriously considering CIC....I need to head over to reddit

Awesome, I am planing the reverse trip on the Bernina Express. Would love to know what your reading. This really ups my interest in AA. I need to figure out which Citi to go with.

We did the Bernina Express this past summer - it was absolutely gorgeous! The panorama cars can be quite hot in the summer, though, with the sun streaming through the huge windows. The Man in Seat 61 is a great resource for all of the Swiss trains.

(We love trains, and actually did the Gotthard route, Voralpen Express, Glacier Express, and Golden Pass line in addition to the Bernina Express (and a bunch of other train trips). What a beautiful country!)

Hmmm got this on my Plat. I wonder if there is anyway to get it to apply to my monthly bill?! Don't want to let an offer like this go to waste LOL
According to DOC, he thinks it might be ok. You can prepay Verizon up to $500. My charge hit this morning. I'll post if I get a notification of using my offer.

I haven't gotten any notice from Chase on the Xfinity Home offer. Fingers crossed, it's been about a week.
