I have anxiety issues over lost luggage, so I guess it works both ways in terms of peace of mind. And, yes, it's happened a bunch in the last couple of years when DD was coming home for the summer or going back to school in the fall.

I've had delayed (as in 3 days worth) bags so totally understand. That said, buying new clothes in Edinburgh wasn't a hardship and now I wear my lost luggage pjs with nostalgia. Not my favorite thing for sure but especially now with Delta's tracker I'm a little less worried (and I do carry a change of clothes and my foundation, which is NOT available in Edinburgh with me).

Okay, guys--please forgive my ignorance. I'm trying to absorb the SW talk. We are flying SW in December. Non-stop RIC to TPA. It is me, my 14-year old (who hates sitting next to strangers), and my 16-year old who has recently developed major anxiety issues. So I can buy ECBI for $20/person. Think I still have $40 of my Priority card $75 credit left as well as my four upgraded boardings. Any advice would be most appreciated!

Doesn't the Priority card cover the cost of upgraded boarding to the A1-15 positions? We have always been able to get a full row to ourselves as long as we pull about B15 or higher. If not, we'll upgrade one or two at the airport. Keep in mind that if things don't work out as planned, you can also ask at the gate for special needs boarding based on your son's anxiety. This is particularly helpful if flights get changed because of delays.

FYI: SAVE $10 on $100+ VISA GIFT CARDS at Safeway/Vons/Randall’s/Albertsons/Tom Thumb/Acme/Jewel/Shaw’s. Expires 11/9/19.
  • Save $10 on $100+ VGC ($5.95 activation fee/each, $4.05 savings). This coupon works on variable load VGCs up to $500, which is your best bet to maximize the rewards you’ll earn on the flat fee and savings.

REMINDER: Safeway/Vons/Randall’s/Albertsons/Tom Thumb/Acme/Jewel/Shaw’s has a deal on Happy Gift Cards, 10% OFF when you spend $100+ until 11/2/19.

  • Happy Gift Cards can be loaded up to $500. Happy Gift Cards also earn 2 points/$1 towards Rewards, which can be used for gas or groceries.

Check your Just 4 U account or app and add these coupons. Add the offers to your account ASAP, as Safeway et al. has been known to pull a coupon before the expiration date. Limit one time use per account.

Pay with a credit card that earns a high bonus at supermarkets, like the Amex Gold for 4x Membership Rewards Points, Amex Hilton Surpass for 6x Hilton Honors Points, Amex Blue Cash Preferred for 6% cash back, or Chase Freedom for 5x Ultimate Rewards Points using Chase Pay through Samsung Pay if you have a Samsung phone; another card that has supermarkets as its quarterly bonus category; or a card on which you're working on the MSR. Amex cards on which you're working towards MSR are generally fine to use for gift cards at grocery stores as long as you mix in some actual grocery items to give your purchase an odd number.

We flew to MCO in late September, 4 of us, my kids are adults. I did not purchase EBCI. On the way down, connecting flights from MSP, thru Midway, and we were early 4's on both flights. On the way home, direct (not non-stop) through St. Louis, we got upper a's checking in at WDW at 24 hours. I was shocked at that. But both flights zero issues boarding and getting seats together.

Um, that should say early B's not 4s. not sure why the heck I typed that.

Yes--four upgraded boardings when available.

I may buy two EBCI on the way there and send the kids ahead of me (I can imagine them fighting over what row to sit in). I suspect that flight will be more full than the return flight since the fare is about 2x the return fare.

Btw, $10 off $100+ seems to be back on my Randall's card again - it's probably at the affiliated stores as well.

Thanks! Yes, it's on my Safeway, but this time with a 1 card maximum, but still I see this as free money! Also, no rewards this time with it that I can see. But I'll take $4.05 plus 400 MR's and I have to go cash out my remaining rewards before the month ends and they expire. Then I'll take the card with me to the Costco next door.

. For the life of me I can’t figure out how the 5/24 rule benefits Chase. I’ve put thousands of dollars on Amex cards because of it.
They don't really want churners, they want people who are are going to stay with them rather than going off to the next MSR.

I would book one direction EBCI and use the upgraded boardings the other way. If the flight down is looking busier, I would do EBCI on the way back and the upgraded boardings on the way down.

Don’t you have an Amex Gold? That’s 4x $495.95 =1,984 MR. :thumbsup2

I've probably jinxed myself. I haven't had any lost luggage and last time something was delayed I was in college (30 years ago). I worry about lost luggage but not as much as I worry about needing something I forgot! Though in my mind I do realize I can probably buy whatever I forget as long as I realize it while we are close to civilization.

I don't know it doesn't stop people from churning their business cards once they get under 5/24. None of the banks want churners and they are cracking down on bonuses. I would get it if they limited the number of chase cards you could get in 2 years, but why should they care how many Amex, Citi or store cards I have. I only have 3 chase cards, I'm at 5/24, and I've never churned.
Two of the three Chase cards I have are over 10 years old and have put 10's of thousands of spend on them. I've taken 23 Disney cruises and at least 10 trips to Disney World all on my Disney Visa. I'm sure there's a lot of people with excellent credit that get denied Chase cards and have no idea why. I haven't put a dime on my Chase cards since they denied me the Hyatt card in April. Their rule may cut back on churners, but it also eliminates non-churners from getting their cards. I don't see how this is profitable for them. I used Amex to pay for my last cruise and my upcoming cruise.

You could buy one ebci on each flight and use your upgrades if available at the gate. If not at least the one ebci can save seats for the other two.

ETA - that extra 1-2 hours is a lot when I'm on vacation. I also don't take up more space that is allotted to me.

We do both checked and carry-on. I try to bring essentials/clothes that we can get by with if our luggage is delayed or lost in our carry-on's. We use one checked bag just for food and snacks since SW allows so many free checked bags. I know I have a bit of an over-packing problem, but my theory is better safe than sorry...

It depends how close to civilization you are. Lol.
My sister drove from Chicago to Michigan this weekend for a swim meet and my dear niece forgot her swimsuit. Hours later she visited 4 stores before she could find a leotard niece could wear. Now, this isn’t a case of carryon vs checked luggage but it could easily be something you didn’t pack but needed. Spending hours of your vacation in a strange city shopping for something you could have brought from home would irritate me. Plus the idea of spending money for something I already have at home (and probably bought on sale or with the right cc) really bothers me. So yes I always bring bandaids and pepto and steroid cream and such. We haven’t needed them every time, but often enough. I have gone carryon for a weekend and I pack less than I used to. I pretty much took the max allowed when we went to China for 17 days. That was a packing list like no other. Lol.
