Hmm, my Ameriprise Platinum AF hit and is due 10/5. I called retention and got the offer of 20k MR/3k spend or 200$ credit/3k spend. Thoughts? I have only put about 1k on this card since getting it last year but put around 5k+ on the rest of my Amex's .
I have and love my CSR so I get better PP access thru them--Centurion doesn't mean much for me. Saks? Well I can always use it on makeup I just don't necessarily *need* it, and since SW gift cards (maybe all gift cards? ....I only followed the SW gc death) don't work anymore I just am so torn!
Is there a chance calling a different number would result in a better offer?
So tried Barclays Hawaiian Biz for me and personal for dh. We each hold an Arrival + and an AA Biz. He got instant approval, I got we need more time/info. Well at least one of us for sure will get some Hawaiian miles (or Hilton LOL)
First I have to actually get approved for the biz card. Right now it's still in wait status. His instant approval was personal, haven't had any issues with Barclays personal, knock on wood. With Barclays, don’t count your bonus until it’s posted. They’re notorious for randomly freezing cards and asking for biz documents even after they’ve approved you.![]()
There is only the “one” retention department, but they have several offices that handle calls at different times. It’s very unlikely you’ll get a different offer from another office, since mostly the reps just read the retention offer(s) that’s attached to your account. You may have better luck calling in again closer to when you actually have to fish or cut bait. Again, you need to cancel within 30 days of your AF posting. In a week or two, the offers being given out may have changed depending on the metrics Amex is trying to hit. If it’s the same offer, I personally would cancel and open a different Plat closer to the end of the year if you even value the benefits.
So the other *minor* detail is that I just noticed my auto-pay very conveniently just sent my AF paymentWould you suggest moving sooner rather than later on account of them 'getting my money'already?
Ugh been on my radar to just close it. Think I’ll follow suit....Barclays Aviator Business - Might be best to cancel SOONER rather than later (ie before the AF posts):
I was reading an exchange on reddit of some disastrous experiences people have had with the TERRIBLE Barclays Aviator Business website and customer service:
One person mentions that they cancelled through SM after the AF hit but before the statement closed with the AF on it. Once you cancel via SM the login stops working. For some reason the AF never got refunded and a late fee was assessed and then a collections agency began calling about the amount due. Eventually they were able to get it remedied but it sounded like a hassle.
Another user chimed in that they had a similar experience although it was easier for them to get the fees waived. (Perhaps they caught it earlier though).
A third user mentioned that you should probably just cancel before the fee is charged and somebody else recommended closing after the MSR because they experienced issues too (which I honestly considered doing myself with how terrible that website is).
I think my Biz Aviator cards are about to get cancelled! That website is a crime against humanity and none of this surprises me...
I think I covered it all but if you want to read it firsthand - here you go!
Bar-cray, crayUgh been on my radar to just close it. Think I’ll follow suit....
You're making me (more) envious!!
Yeah, the moving companies thing is one of my concerns because it’s only good if I stay with geico. I don’t think there’s a limit but you have to buy it in the vehicle’s first 15 months. There is a $250 deductible. Need to do more research! Is there a limit on the length of the warranty? If she keeps for 10 years and the cost for those years is $500.00 then a break job and you'd likely break even, then if something else went you come out ahead. However I'd read the warranty closely and see what the exclusions are. Also if you move insurance companies then is your warranty void (if yes, then I'd probably pass)?
For those looking to book SW flights with today's release who are finding really high prices: if you are booking a trip with a stop, try booking the legs individually. I was trying to book our outbound Spring Break flights from Boise to Maui and was seeing Wanna Get Away fares sold out for that itinerary. But when I looked at the BOI to OAK and OAK to OGG legs separately, Wanna Get Away fares were available for each leg, so I booked that way. I wasn't so lucky on the return, at least not yet. Wanna Get Away from OGG to OAK are available, but not from OAK to BOI. I'm going to wait on that one, since there are other options for the return (like United, Alaska).
Once you get past the cruise you could keep an eye on flights to the Caribbean on SW. sometimes I see them really cheap from FL...like 3k each way.Right now we don’t have any immediate plans to go anywhere. Our main thing is our cruise and then visiting family. Maybe sometime down the road we’ll fly somewhere with southwest out of MCO
