If Jim Cantore was really serious about reporting from the eye of the storm...he'd be heading to the Bahamas right now. I do love me some Jim Cantore!! (although he can be a little "EXTRA" at times) :P
Dude is a National Icon. I fully support a statue of him bracing himself against Mother Nature displayed at the Smithsonian.

Friends of ours stayed at Royal Pacific with their dog & cat during Irma. I think they said there is normally a fee, but it was waived.
I’m assuming they would allow cats. I’m not sure if it’s at all of their resorts but most likely yes. I’ll look and see if I can find a good price at one of their hotels.

Yeah - what I was more saying was they could've communicated internally that if the track doesn't improve they would take that action. Also, setting a hard time so early was an odd call - especially when the storm was reported to slow down very shortly after that.

That said, I do appreciate them trying to get ahead of it vs. last second communication which leaves employees scrambling potentially.

I equate to schools in the south, snow in the forecast we'll cancel school tomorrow only to wake up to not a flake in the sky and no school. Then they get made fun of. I know that happened at least once when I lived in NC but they did seem to get better the longer I lived there and would actually wait until morning.

A little? More like a lot. I hadn't turned back to them because they'd been stopping live coverage at 9 my time the past few days, was watching about the other unfortunate event of the day on CNN while I read. Just switched over.

I haven't noticed anyone that has people in the bahamas yet so I'm guessing they didn't send any more. I know abc has had someone in Miami since like wed. I swear this is the slowest moving storm ever or they just normally turn out to sea or break up before this or something. It's just nuts.

I'm just glad it still looks like it'll go east and not inland even if it his in NC. I don't need to worry about my house and friends there too.

I see Cabana bay for $119 on Priceline. Is the entire resort interior hallways? I haven’t been there in 3 years

I've been frustrated about that timing too, lol - I like to stay up late and at midnight my hurricane coverage goes away!

The lack of movement here is nuts!! That's why I think they're all hesitant to rule anything out yet - a lot can happen in 4+ days to push this storm in a variety of directions!

It's also interesting that GFS and Euro models don't line up right now and GFS shows it a lot closer to the coast...

One side is motel style, I think that's the suites. The other side has interior hallways but I think it's possible to not be connected to the lobby in a few rooms... the tower at the end that has volcano views. But one side then faces in to the pool area so idk if those are a different category than the ones connected to the lobby, bc I'm thinking those are all standard queen rooms

Agree but it doesn't surprise me the models aren't lining up because it normally takes awhile for them too and I think because it's so slow we're still in that window we would be it's just lasting way longer than normal. But at least people know it's happening somewhere and can prepare. I made the mistake of watching the new tsunami simulation if we get a 9.0 off the coast, while again I live on a hill and it's 500 ft above sea level so not some tiny hill, I work in a valley and have to cross a river to get to/from there. That river is obviously connected to Puget Sound that will get water coming through the strait from the ocean. The good news is we'll have hours vs the 10-15 minutes the coast will have. But it's crazy it'll go through the strait and between all the islands in the san juans and just disperse through to the south end of puget sound and up into bellingham bay. I don't think any of us thought we'd actually get anything from a coastal tsunami. And even if an Alaska, OR or BC based quake happens it could though not as bad.

So I'd rather have something I can prepare for than something that always hangs out in the back of your head and when you feel a shake you always have to take stock. At work, oh it's just someone walking by and the floors suck or a truck drove by or at home the washer's on a spin cycle. Then you have to forget the house was built in the 40's and that a lot of our buildings/houses were built before the codes were improved so what does that mean I don't want my house cracking in half.

Ok back to my book where the widowed countess is having issues and suspects one of the three men courting her sister who's in London with her for The Season. It's like 1902 though I'm sure The Season still exists over there and in NYC for those type of people.

Wow. The words I want to use to describe that entire situation are completely inappropriate on the dis....
So, the really frustrating thing was that airlines were saying they weren't aware of any official communication from the airport that is was closing Monday. But on twitter the airport was saying they were working with airlines, etc on it. They also said contact airline for info and then you'd do that and airline would say flights are fine...no changes. SW flights were still bookable for Monday onward even after the airport was saying they were closing. MCO really dropped the ball on this.

I watched one of those documentaries on the tsunami that hit Thailand I believe. That was just crazy - I can't quite put into words how scary that one seems to me with almost no warning.

Hmm okay. I’m not sure if I want to risk that. I would want to be somewhere I can make sure we will have interior hallways. Royal pacific was around $227 I think which isn’t much cheaper than a studio at AKL

I'm not familiar with aventura or sapphire falls but they seem like all the rooms would be connected to the lobby.

Just adding an AKL studio would get you a kitchenette with an extra sink, microwave, and paper plates, dishes, and cutlery compared to a regular resort room. Might be nice if you were brining food including those extra frozen meals you mentioned earlier.

Well and the thing people didn't know and I didn't until I read that article tonight is that the water pulls out creating a trough so people go out to see why the water is suddenly gone and then wham there's the huge giant wave. So if the water is suddenly further out than it should be go in the opposite direction and fast.

Well, good news and bad news. I got my flights switched to Monday b/c seemed like a lesser chance of outer bands disrupting airport operation than my original Tuesday pm flight. So we get an extra day in case one or two are rainouts. At this point I don't think there will be much of anything, but a wobble here or there could change that.
I also was able to get AofA LM room on PLE again for the same price and for the additional night. Whoop!

Bad news-DS9 decided he isn't coming...maybe I can change his mind. Also, I was booking at 11:15 central on Pl and I had a 15%coupon that expired at 11:59EST. Apparently the 8% RMN coupon did too. So I only had an extra 5% off.

Put it all on my arrival+ and plan to erase it, or most of it.

Yay! Things are looking up.

Yeah - that happened in this documentary. I found it on YouTube because of course now I wanted to see if it was out there. Ever since seeing that I told my wife that if we're ever at a beach and the water goes way down we get somewhere high...quickly! I think after the 2004 tsunami a lot was done to protect and educate but they just happen so fast!

(What you mention happens around 28 minutes in - people on the beach wondering where the water went)

Why doesn't ds9 want to go? I just can't imagine any of mine ever turning down a Disney trip!

Glad you got some good news in all this. Such an utter mess. Completely.

He doesn't want to miss the fantasy football draft Monday night with our friend group, even though I told him we could FaceTime in for it. He also would miss Friday hockey practice and Saturday's flag football game. Apparently sports are more important than Disney.

I actually was thinking the same thing when I saw it was a studio. I would for sure take our frozen meals just in case. I’m still not convinced we should leave. I think one thing that’s really swaying my decision is how many people have stayed in our neighborhood and our town.
