Just wondering when ones who are coming from the East coast to Anaheim, what airport do you fly into? This is for DL of course.

I flew into LAX. I got a nonstop flight from IAD to LAX last year on a saver fare for 12.5k per person on United last year I think.

Amex questions:
- Does AU spend please the RAT re avoiding future pop ups? Like if my DD is an AU on a card does her spend count towards the totals they’re looking for?

And

- Can a 16 yr old be an AU on an Amex biz card? I know they can on the personal (already have her on my BCP) but unsure on biz.

Maybe it would work if you got a Roku stick/player, assuming the tv has an hdmi port.
I suggested that to Dh but we’re just going to use our Xbox. We literally just bought a new fire stick like 3 weeks ago.

You guys are all here talking about 9/11 memories and meaningful stuff and meanwhile I'm researching anniversary dates of churning milestones like CSR leaked link and 48 month rule... I really embrace this churning historian role I guess, haha!

I will say on the topic, 9/11 had a deep impact on me. Whenever that date rolls around each year, I watch a lot of the various documentaries and think of the courageous actions numerous folks in our country took to help save and protect others. It's a very somber day for me. I grew up in Pittsburgh, I was a Senior in HS at the time, I had no ties to NY or the towers, but I can't explain it, it just had a huge impact on me.

@speedyfishy - it also happens to be my mother's birthday so I understand in a small way how that could have been impactful for many years thereafter. But it's totally ok to celebrate your day!

9/11 is my dad's birthday too - I always feel a bit insensitive posting in my social media to celebrate him, while everyone else is posting memorial type things. But I remind myself that if we don't celebrate the important events in our lives, then we let the bad guys win.

Yes, your 16 yr can be an AU. You need to be 13 yr or older with AmEx.

Are you flying into Tampa? When we went a couple of years ago, we flew into Tampa on a later flight and then just picked up our rental car that evening and drove about 15-30 min to a hotel for the night and then headed directly to our hotel in Clearwater which was only about 45min to an hour away.

No, we're flying into and out of MCO. I priced it out flying into Tampa but couldn't get it to work like I wanted. We'd have to fly SW into Tampa and connect in ATL, and the flight times weren't as good. Then we'd have to rent the car at TPA and return it MCO, so it would cost us more. We're just doing the one night in Clearwater so DH can see the Scientologists (lol) and then go to Busch Gardens the next day. We like road trips so I'm sure we'll enjoy the drive from MCO to Clearwater.

Okay I’m getting nervous now for Dorian. They’re saying it could be a hurricane when it hits Florida and it looks like right now it’s coming straight for us. Since we have cats I don’t think we could just pick up and leave at the last second. We would need somewhere to stay that would allow cats

This doesn't bode well for opening weekend for SWGE. I bet the execs are freaking out right now.

I just saw the track after I booked my nonrefundable PLE deal. Had forgotten Dorian was even a thing since I saw it a few days ago. Oops. hahaha. Luckily, I come in Tues pm, which is hopefully after it passes through. SW isn't even allowing free flight changes for Tuesday at this time, so fingers crossed.
If I were living in CHS with this storm impending, I wouldn't even be leaving. We weren't in a flood zone though. I'd just stock up on essentials and ride it out unless the intensity increases. Didn't you guys just buy a generator? If you are in a flood zone just head inland to whatever hotel you find that takes pets, or maybe in and south to avoid the potential strike zone.

I can't remember, are you near Orlando? If so, at least you're a little inland.

This is an interesting case because no hurricanes have made landfall on the east coast of Florida since Katrina in 2005, which obviously passed over Florida and re-emerged in the Gulf of Mexico.

I wasn't really digging the forecasts the past couple days - the storm was weak and the southern Florida track didn't make much sense to me. It makes more sense now, a little further north. But we don't have a good historical analogue to compare to Dorian. The Bermuda high will push it west, and a combination of the high + fronts from the NE will eventually recurve it away from the US mainland. The waters around the Bahamas are plenty warm enough, and shear is low, so intensification is likely as long as the storm can wall off dry air (which it is doing now).

Interestingly, a stronger, more intense hurricane is generally more likely to "feel" the weaknesses in the atmosphere, and a sooner recurvature out to sea becomes more likely.

I'm just a random guy on the internet though, so make sure you pay attention to what they are telling you locally. And yeah, you live in hurricane country now, so having a plan is important. Know where you'll go - consider making a cancelable booking at a hotel that allows pets. We did that once or twice when we lived in Mississippi.

My advice would be to monitor the next day or so, and if you plan to leave, do so early. Hurricane traffic + holiday weekend traffic will be a nightmare. And, depending on the path, consider going south or southwest instead of north. The storm will continue north and there will be chances for flooding, tornadoes, etc. on land. If you have patio furniture, put it in the pool!

How close are you to the coast? We are less than 5 miles from the beach and I am staying put unless something changes drastically (stayed for Irma -- it's harder with pets and the dog ultimately cemented our decision to stay as I couldn't get her on the plane with us on the only flight that I could find to Toronto). There is still plenty of time to formulate plans and prep your house and also time for Dorian to change direction / dissipate.

Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando is “pet friendly”, has good reviews and around 7,000 UR/ night.

I totally missed the forecast for a building ridge on the US East Coast. That changes the forecast. A strong ridge will block Dorian from moving up the Carolina coast, so the options are a western track over Florida or an early recurvature back out to sea.

We don't consider leaving unless a hurricane is predicted to be a category 3 or higher (despite being close to a river, we aren't in a flood zone either)- Irma came right by us as a strong 2, my DH and kiddos slept through it 😴 Lost power for a couple of days but made the best of it!
