9/11 memories do tend to be regional. For some reason I took it really seriously, but lots of people out here on the West Coast just don't look back and think it was a big deal. My friends in NY, however, take it very seriously, so I end up talking with them about it. My DD was 4 at the time and has no memories of it, but I remember how eerily quiet it was in our neighborhood for a while with all of the flights shut down and people tending to stay home more.
As an foreigner (Born and raised in Brazil) I remember that day in clear details, maybe because of my age 16 at the time. I remember what class I was taking ( High school literature). It was a huge deal for us even from so far away and not knowing anybody affected directly.
I also remember walking to the gate when dropping people off, or just being able to walk to our planes with no security, etc.
Leaving in MA I have meet Many people that were directly affected and they do tell me that leaving in the area right after that was such a different word.

When we moved here people told us they start thinking about leaving if it’s a category 3 but most still stay even if it’s a 3. If it’s a 4 then most leave
I grew up on Texas gulf coast and most of my fam is still there. We never left for cat 3’s. Several of my family had devastating flooding from Harvey but that was a really unique storm.

I have quotes, but just want to throw out that it cracks me up when the subject of generations comes up. ILs were born in 57 and 58, but MIL will argue til she is blue in the face that she is not a boomer. She thinks of boomers as firmly the first 5ish years after the war ended, she considers her sister a boomer who was born in 50. I don't know why it is such a hang up :confused3 It just makes me laugh, she recognizes that all her kids and even me fall into the Millennial generation, even with a 8ish year age gap total, and that the years for the Millennial generation span 20 years or so, but won't recognize the same range with the boomer generation :rotfl:

Amex questions:
- Does AU spend please the RAT re avoiding future pop ups? Like if my DD is an AU on a card does her spend count towards the totals they’re looking for?

And

- Can a 16 yr old be an AU on an Amex biz card? I know they can on the personal (already have her on my BCP) but unsure on biz.

1. Probably. Can't hurt. You're ultimately responsible for all the AU charges. I mean, think of an actual business where the owner might charge some fancy meals on his card, but his employees are out spending multitudes more on supplies and inventory using their employee cards. I think that would make Amex happy.

2. Yes. Amex AUs have to be 13 or older, and Amex eventually requires you to add their SSN or they'll close the card. They're not going to make sure you're complying with child labor laws.

Any recommendations for Las Vegas hotels within Marriott/spg? Need to book a hotel soon and prices seem about the same for most of them.

Yeah, I would say depending on where you are in the path of a cat 3, you might be ok staying home. But I would definitely be getting out of town if it's a 4. Remember though that hurricanes decrease rapidly in strength when they make landfall. This can be good and bad in the sense that the category number goes down, but they can also stall out and bring a lot more rain to your area.

I would suggest going out and doing a test run on your generator and letting it run for a little while to make sure it's working ok. Does it have a test cycle that it runs weekly? My mom has one that runs for about 30 minutes once a week.
I told Dh we should let it run a bit today. I’m not sure if it has a test cycle but we haven’t even turned it on before. I guess that’s on our list for tonight

@Haley R i think I read somewhere that Hilton’s allow cats. My dd19 is super allergic to cats so we’ve rarely stayed in Hilton’s cause of that.
When we moved down here we drove and stopped at a La Quinta that allowed cats and dogs. I went on a website that showed hotels by area that allowed cats. I didn’t see any Hiltons when we were moving that allowed them but it may have just been that website

Came home to a set of biz mAAilers and an email offer. Of course, it's not the right timing for us --dh is done for a year (he says, unless he can get a Platicorn) and I've holding out for another CIP or a CIC in October.

Do you know how you landed these? I signed up my kids for AA accounts and said they work/own my 2 different photography businesses. But I haven't gotten anything.

It’s been awhile since I read that so policy may have changed. I was honestly shocked that Hilton’s would allow cats since they are so allergenic to so many people.

As if work and our trip this weekend doesn't have me stressed out enough, now I have DH saying we need to change hotels due to Dorian. I haven't been following that. I'm just stressed that we haven't even booked FPs or made plans yet.

There's a La Quinta near Busch Gardens that allows cats - you could do research for another possible AP to add 😉

We've stayed at the Marriott Grand Chateau - good location, 1br suite with a King in the bedroom and the most comfortable sofabed I have ever found in a hotel - no casino onsite so its a nice escape from the madness.

Bah. We are scheduled to fly in to Orlando Friday morning for a Universal trip staying at Cabana Bay. We fly out Monday evening and with Dorain everything is so much in flux. I am good with riding the storm out but getting home is the problem and getting DW and DS back to work and school on Tuesday. I have a one way car rental reserved Sunday to Tuesday just in case we need to drive back. Parks should be emptier though. I might get to ride Hagrids ride.
Hurricane Matthew altered our trip in 2016 so we just have bad luck with hurricanes i guess.

I love it, I love it all!! Does DH like PSL? Imagine how many that Starbucks card could get him :lmao:

I hope there is a cool day when I am in Disney in October. I would love a venti hot PSL no whip, extra cinnamon on Main Street. Literally so extra and basic.

And my drink of choice on Main Street is a frozen green tea chai latte....I get looks and comments so now I just wrap a napkin around it.
