WWYD?

I’m at 3/24 and primarily focused on drinking from the CIPy cup and maybe staying on the business grAAvy train if we see some DPs of the bonus posting for non mailer approvals.

I already did the 100K Personal Amex Plat and the Chase MDD. There aren’t really any other personal cards I’m eying that I don’t already have.

We have about $4200 to pay on our July 2020 cruise (payment due in April). I really should have booked through Chase to use our stash of URs but I used my TA and snagged the awesome dirt cheap ultimate beverage package when they had the glitch so I hate to cancel and rebook. I think travel eraser cards might be a good option.

I received the Capital One Venture 60K/$3000 MSR offer in the mail and it’s good until October. AF is waived the first year. It looks like I could pay $600 or so towards the cruise and erase it with the points (RCCL payments through my TA have always shown as direct payments to RCCL and posted as cruise/steamships or something like that).

I think @DisneyMandC recently received this card?

Any reason not to apply or anything special to keep in mind? Is there another personal card I’m missing that would give me more (I’ve already had the Arrival+ and am kind of sick of Barclays at the moment after DH’s failed Aviator card)?

I know I could go for the Chase Ink Cash for $500 but I’d prefer not to hit chase too hard right now.

Thanks!!

I feel like that’s me every time I go to Disney lol. I’m always like “we’re going to take it easy” and then I get there and I’m like “if we speedwalk across the park we can get on Space Mountain with a 20 minute wait”
Yep that’s legit me lol. Dh gets so annoyed. He’ll be like, “We have APs now and have been on this too many times”. I just get so caught up in the rush 😆

Totally agree! I don't expect other people to want to use their points the same way I do. And I love to see how this hobby is making travel easier for so many people, in so many different ways.

So glad to hear that your parents enjoyed Epcot today! I've been wondering how things were going. And LOL I'm the same way when I get into a park - there's just so much to see and do!
I’ve been trying to get my mom to Epcot for a long time. She had it in her head that all Disney parks were just theme parks so I obviously had to change that. We had lunch at rose and crown. I probably wouldn’t eat there again. My mom loved living with the land, spaceship earth, and frozen! My dad thought soarin was really cool (mom didn’t ride because she gets motion sickness). We had dinner at nine dragons and all really liked our meals.

My mom LOVED wearing her birthday pin and hearing happy birthday. I seriously think that made her day. She also really liked meeting Mickey, Minnie, and goofy. She didn’t think she would but once we got in line she was so excited and jogged to hug every character lol. Overall, it was a good day and I can’t wait for them to come back down so we can go again

Yup, just got the card, haven’t put the first charge on it yet. It was particularly desirable for me since it has a GE credit. I’ll probably use most of the miles to buy Universal tickets from UT. Not sure if it matters to you but you should be aware that Capital One pulls all three credit reports. I was instantly approved. I am an AU on a Capital One card of my mom’s that’s about 4 years old. I don’t think she really uses it though.

I wouldn’t do the venture now, personally.

Does the Hyatt card not interest you? Or a companion pass?

If you get the venture, then you’re not going to be able to get one of those when you go over 5/24. The venture can always be gotten as the 6th or 7th personal card. The Hyatt or SW can’t.

Even if you don’t use SW for flights, you can cash them out at 1cpp through Amazon, which isn’t too different than the venture itself.

If trying to not hit chase (when was last chase?). Then Biz Gold? Biz Plat? Hilton Biz (all time high)?

Freshman year I had a roommate in college whose parents actually did that. They lived 1.5 hours away. She didn’t care but I hated it and it was like every other week! Senior year my BFF was chatting with some random person in class about annoying roommates and they said “my friend knows this girl and her roommate’s parents have their own set of keys so they just show up and let themselves into the apartment!” That friend was the current roommate of my infamous roommate LOL! At least I had the privacy of them not having keys to the dorm room! I’m sure you wouldn’t do that to your kid but just in case it’s in the back of anyone’s head here- take pity on the roommate and just don’t do that. Send a text!
My roommates were only an hour from home. Thankfully their parents didnt show up unannounced. But there were a few times that I would just get home midweek and her dad would be on our couch. No wait, it was weirder because she would be on the couch and her dad would be doing dishes...

About a month into the school year, her family had to put their dog down. So one saturday morning at 6am, someone is pounding on our apartment door... turns out her grandparents were less than 20 min away and had come to tell her and be with her. Which was nice, but.. I was the first to here because I was in the first bedroom so the front door was outside my window and I stumble out in pjs and don't know who these people are asking for my roommate, then my third roommate poked her head around the hall and heard so went to wake her...

For second semester that girl moved in with her boyfriend across the street from our apartment complex. It was weird bc she'd come to pretend she loved with us when they came. I always worried they would show up unexpectedly and she told us to tell her family she was at the library if that happened! I was like, no, I'm not getting involved in this!

Realizing now that coming back to my dorm room one night as a soph to find my junior transfer student roommate jumping up and down on her bed and not on anything to not be quite so bad. Or the same year that the freshman thought I wasn't nice enough because I didn't say hi every time she walked in the room, umm just cause we live together doesn't mean we have to be friends or acknowledge you especially if I'm busy.

I'm finally setting up my Serve account and noticed you can fund with an Amex cc. I know there is a really good answer for this but why do we not do that? Is it just fear of the rat?

Thank you for the info.

Both P1 and P2 have the Hyatt and IHG cards from Chase. They’re keeper cards due to the annual free nights. We’ve had them for 6+ years.

I did the MDD back in April and was approved for CIP #2 earlier this month. I figured it might be a good idea to give Chase some breathing room so I can try for CIP #3 in 3 months or so.

We also just both picked up the Hilton Biz card and are working on the MSR (I’m actually still waiting for my card in the mail).

I’ve held the biz gold before so would expect the pop-up for that. Biz Plat is on my radar but I should still be good to go for that at 4/24 when I have a big spend.

I guess my question is if there’s another personal card that’s better to use my last slot on while still remaining under 5/24. I’ll drop back to 3/24 a year from now. I know something new and shiny could come along in that year so I plan to keep P2 at 3/24 and hold a slot free for a unicorn that might appear. He also drops to 1/24 in late May.

Airline weirdness:

It's 56K for AF J class SFO>CPH with a stop in CDG
It's 74K to return with just the CDG>SFO portion.
But, if I wanted to return from CPH, which requires an extra flight, it's only 56K.

So they would charge me 19K miles more for not taking that extra flight? :headache:

We were just there with 7 park days planned. With our shiny new AP's, we ended up going in another day for a half day. And even with commando park touring, we never slowed down lol. I always have high hopes that we will do more relaxed touring but my family doesn't know the meaning of that. I was worried stopping to meet @afan was gonna get my dh all worked up because it was the morning of our first day and that is when my dh is most hyper about rushing everywhere. He was fine with it though :)

We’re the same way, even with APs. For the last trip where it was just our immediate family of 3 I really thought we’d alternate park and resort days. I even planned FP that way (although I did pre book headliners each evening in case we decided to pop in for a few rides after the pool). Nope, DD would wake up asking what FP we had and what rides we were doing. That meant scrambling more than once to rearrange FP and trying to grab what we could the morning of. It all worked out but I was surprised as last year she had enough of the parks and was more than happy not to leave the pools. It was fine with me since I’m not a pool person (I did laundry the one day they swam ).

Wells Fargo has been my bank for 20 years. I've never had one of their credit cards.
I’m a big fan of their biz plat as it doesn’t show on your credit report. $500 for $5k. (And they gave it to me with no hard pull at the time I went in for a biz checking account. I really didn’t mean to get a cc that day 🤣) Alas only some branches are “biz” friendly.
