I take it you’re looking to book with Chase URs? If so yes, book through the portal. If not there is no reason to use the Chase portal as it tends to have higher rates than you’d get from the hotel direct with a AAA or some such discount.

Thank you! Yep, figured we'd look at what the Chase Portal has to offer (even thought we've never used it before), but we have no problem booking direct. We do prefer a place with breakfast, and she found a Fairfield for under $100 per night.

I was a trombone player in college. These days I’m the church pianist on the weekends. Of course I’m a banker by day so the music as a job thing just wasn’t for me.
That is so nice! What a coincidence. My DD who was a music major also double majored in French and went on to grad school for education. She is starting her first full item teaching job this fall. And is a church pianist on weekends too!

I am also doing the college drop off this weekend for my Sophomore. She can't move into the dorm until tomorrow, but we arrived here yesterday. She had an interview today for babysitting for a family that is close to campus, so I think that will be a good part time job for her. She is 7 hours away, but the nice thing is we have free lodging when we come here because a family member has a Condo here they keep just for the occasional football weekend. DD21 will be living at home for her Senior year. But that can also come with tears. haha I really miss them when they are gone, but living back at home after she was on campus her first 2 years plus her Study Abroad, so it is an adjustment with all of us to have her back home full time. Good luck with everyone else sending them away!
I just dropped my DS for his sophomore year at college today too! Good luck to your DD.

Does this mean no more BA companion pass? Will you get it again once you're under 5/24? I know you've used the companion pass well in the past.

Plane Princess May keep his since the current companion pass is on his account. No need to keep mine at the moment. Then we will assess. We likely will cancel since there are 3 Maiden Voyages to look forward to and we won’t likely be doing much beyond that. Then again, who knows.

Clark was one of about 16 colleges my daughter looked at. She didn’t want to be more than three hours from home. Of course, she ended up five hours from home. (Gettysburg College.) Good luck to your daughter!

LOL-of course DD didn't want to be so close to home (FSU 3 hours, UF 5 hours). No risk of parents dropping in on her unexpectedly now.

I went to school in Worcester in the late 80s (Holy Cross) and the city had Nothing.

It's definitely revitalizing and gentrifying in some areas. When the Woo-Sox move it, that's going to be even a bigger boon, I think. I was enviously of the Holy Cross colors when I saw some students at our hotel-I really like purple!:)

She must be very smart -- I hear UF is hard for FL students to get into. My dd has BU and (hopefully WPI -- one of my top choices for her) on her 'short list'. It's far, but I LOVE Boston! Can you fly Jet Blue direct to Worcester?

I went to BU. Loved it! But will only let my kids go there if they get a lot of free money. :rotfl2:

My kid's story x4. Two are now in grad programs at big U's with big-time sports and they are enjoying it, but liberal arts colleges have so much else to offer for undergrads.

Mine, too. DD graduated from a LAC last May with and she really had an amazing experience there. She is doing a research year abroad right now, but grad school/med is in the plan afterwards. I really do like the smaller colleges, but I also know kids who love the larger Us.

Whew, so much travel to book soon... moved around our reservations for Columbus, OH for October today and now need to make plans for Venice, FL for January for a horse show to DH. There are only a few hotels and the point valuations are stupid on all of them so I’ll probably just book him at the nearby Fairfield and pay it. I’ve been looking at the best flights from RIC to Tampa or Sarasota too. Sarasota is closer but it may depend on price/cost of rental car. There are some AA flights for around $200 so I may be able to use my new Citi AA biz to book those for the credit, assuming the bonus is actually attached!

Then we decided to do another horse show in raleigh in two weeks. Since I had just canceled our one Marriott stay and got 100k points back, I told DH just to book 3 nights at the Residence Inn for 37.5k Marriott points. I didn’t feel like shelling out cash with the WDW trip next month too, so that makes my life easier (and cheaper).

Sometimes I feel like I don’t take as many cool trips as all of you do or get to WDW as much, but I do get to use a lot of my points to lower the cost of horse shows! Using 16k Choice points this weekend for 2 nights at a Quality Inn!

I think we all use points in different ways so as long as you’re using them in a way that’s beneficial for you then it’s great!

Sorry I haven’t been posting much lately. Tomorrow is our last day with my parents. We went to Epcot today for my mom’s birthday and it was both of their first times there. I think it’s safe to say they had a great day! We’re all pooped. We drove over just for the day and are driving home now. When we were leaving the park my dad said, “Man, when you go to the park with Haley you get a lot done” lol. I always have a plan. I can tell Dh the day is an “easy going day” but it’s a lie :rotfl2:

My DD got in to BU and she did get a lot of free money, and we still couldn’t afford it. Lol She got some big scholarship, presidential maybe?, I think it was like $20k a year. But they did not meet full financial need for us so it was going to be way more than where she is going now. I think she is happier where she is now so it worked out.

I feel like that’s me every time I go to Disney lol. I’m always like “we’re going to take it easy” and then I get there and I’m like “if we speedwalk across the park we can get on Space Mountain with a 20 minute wait”

I had forgotten that I purchased future cruise credits on Princess last spring during our anniversary cruise. Too bad I can't figure out how to combine those with using URs to book the cruise! I am just looking at an inexpensive "4 day" out of LA (on the Princess site) and I don't see that particular cruise listed in the UR portal.

We could do the whole thing for $600 out of pocket... decisions, decisions!

Totally agree! I don't expect other people to want to use their points the same way I do. And I love to see how this hobby is making travel easier for so many people, in so many different ways.

So glad to hear that your parents enjoyed Epcot today! I've been wondering how things were going. And LOL I'm the same way when I get into a park - there's just so much to see and do!

Freshman year I had a roommate in college whose parents actually did that. They lived 1.5 hours away. She didn’t care but I hated it and it was like every other week! Senior year my BFF was chatting with some random person in class about annoying roommates and they said “my friend knows this girl and her roommate’s parents have their own set of keys so they just show up and let themselves into the apartment!” That friend was the current roommate of my infamous roommate LOL! At least I had the privacy of them not having keys to the dorm room! I’m sure you wouldn’t do that to your kid but just in case it’s in the back of anyone’s head here- take pity on the roommate and just don’t do that. Send a text!

If you call Cruise & Tours can they bring it up?
