omgosh, I'd never drive 8 hours for a kid bday party. That is nuts. Don't feel bad at all. I don't even throw1st bday parties for my babies. My parents come and we do cake and focus on the child all day. No preparing party stuff and entertaining folks...all that takes away from the actual birthday child. JMHO.
That sounds like the way to go! It does turn out they aren't having a ton of people, as in not my whole side because that is an insane amount of people. 90? now, for my aunts/uncles/1st cousins and now their spouses/kids :faint: It sounds like it's her immediate family, his immediate family, and a few close extended friends/family. Feel a little bad that we made the list, but... we've had travel plans for way longer... and I plan on poking around to see if I can get a deal via SW or United and points and fly back again another weekend like the last two times we visited :rolleyes1 It's not a bad drive... I'm just tired of it. And the other thing is, no one appreciates how taxing it is to drive that far for just a weekend because every time they come out my way, it's at least 4-5 days or more and they do touristy things. The main touristy thing I want to do back home is the Omaha Zoo!
We have gotten 0/4 magnets from disney. @MrPTato was kind enough to mail me one though. I was able to pick up both F&G ones this spring though!
Boo. We got one, when we activated our first APs. We did not get any more even though we technically got 'new' APs last September. @MrPTato was kind enough to help me out with AP things too!!

I understood what you were saying! Just wanted to make sure others realized there is a $50 option. I use that option when I have $5’s and $10’s I need to use up. Never have seen $50 in the store!

I *think* I saw $25 ones hanging at the registers in my store. If not, then it was $50. I will double check when I go in the next day or two.

We don’t have many Disney gc options in our store. We’re so far from either Disney, I think they assume we don’t go lol

We didn’t throw babies bday parties either. Just had the grands come out, if they were able. If not, no biggie.

Help! I am trying to find a room for our arrival night on our WDW trip in December.

As badly as I want to just stay on property for the entire trip staying on the first night does not make sense. Our flight lands at 11:40 pm. We always rent a car so getting on property is not an issue. (One of the caveats DH has with us going so much...he wants the ability to escape even if we never do).

I would like to stay as close to WDW as possible. I have two free nights at Marriott from our Brilliant (I think category 5). I have a free night with no restrictions from my IHG card. I also have the free night from the Hyatt card. I need a room that is bookable and usable for the free night and will sleep the 5 of us.

Any suggestions? @calypso726 I know you have mentioned using free nights for time around WDW.

I would probably just cave and Disney math rationalize staying on property but it is a Friday night the 6th and cheapest room on property is Beach Club at $414. Unless you all think I should just do that. :)

I am team Hyatt MCO. 12k points and convenience can't be beat.

Our schools here in CO go back either the first or second week of Aug (depends on district). I thought most of the south was same - I know TX & GA go back early. I want to say my cousin in Houston area said her kids go back first week of Aug.

Alot of TN goes back next week or went back this week.

I just checked TP and UT’s crowd calendars for our WDW week in september. TP has us at 2-4 for crowd days most of the week, which is great! UT has us pretty solidly at 5 just about every day, except for that Sunday which it has as a 7 for MK. I find that really hard to believe, especially since MNSSHP is that night so regular park hours end at 6 pm.

We went to wdw multiple times in July and never thought it was less busy like people were saying. Wdw has found a way to make the lines long no matter the crowd level anyway

It felt less crowded in July than May to me. Probably about the same level as March. I would agree about lines...the FP ones especially would back up. One night in July the FP line for Space was all the way to astro orbiter.
DD also confirmed July was slow. They got the projected attendance numbers daily on the whiteboard at work. But thanks to MDE and data available, they cut back on employees so the lines stay long.

The fall CP kids don't check in until a week or more from now so that could play a part. We're scheduled to meet several (like 10+ lol) of my dd's CP friends and they aren't arriving for another week or two. All our MK days went up but not sure any other parks did. Oh well, all we can do is go and make the best. We normally go LD weekend and the week after. We're used to crowd levels of 1's and 2's. I've had a lot of trouble accepting this is when we have to go but with SWGE opening this year when it is, our park days would have been much higher anyways.

First round of check ins in this coming Monday, so alot of people have already left to go down. I don't feel like that is affecting your crowd level that much though.

The SW flight I booked for Fri night for the SWGE previews dropped to $49!! I haven't seen this since we first started going in Jan 2017!

I think DH and I have finally settled on what we are doing for trips. He just needs to verify that the days off will work with his boss on Monday.

  • Aug 16-19 for SWGE AP Previews
    • May fly midday on Friday, DH can do most of a day so no PTO and that gets us in at 7pm instead of 1am (also this means I lose my $49 ticket and am back to the original $149 price, but it's all on points so 🤷‍♀️ )
    • Preview is 9am slot on 18th
    • 6am flight home on 19th so DH can do most of a day at work
    • Swolphin is 29k AA miles for 16-18, think I will do MCO Hyatt for the last night with an early flight
  • Aug 29-Sept 3 for Labor Day weekend
    • Fly late on 29th
    • 6am flight home on 3rd (Tues), hopefully... mainly because last direct SW flight is 5pm on Labor Day and they want $300+ for it (and always have, so I had planned on coming home Tues or Wed night originally... Disney APs expire 9/2 and Uni 9/5 but now we are doing HHN so will skip Uni this trip)
    • Current Hotel is AoA the entire time for $756 with summer RO offer... this is hardest to play with as availability is pretty low now
    • GET IN 4 EPCOT SCANS FOR AP COASTERS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
  • Sept 18-22 for Uni/HHN
    • Fly late on 18th
    • 5:30pm flight on 22nd (I care less about only getting a half day for last day at Uni...
    • Maybe will try a Bonvoy cert for 18th... EP hotel for 19-21 or 22
    • I'm about 99% sure that we will let our APs lapse and then use URs for new tickets that we will upgrade to APs, since it is similar in price to regular tickets
    • DHs CSR credit will reset on 9/15 so we will charge things to the room :)

So for the United Basic Economy fares, with no carry on our seat picking, is it possible to pay to upgrade them after booking or at the airport? I was looking at some for one of our trips through the UR portal, and they say no upgrading allowed... but then I don't trust that they are 100% right since it's through a third party :) I am planning to try the SW / Plat credit trick on Monday as soon as DH okays his days, but if it wouldn't work then I have zero idea what I will do with my Plat credit. I guess we'll be drinking ALL THE DRINKS :rotfl:

What kind of snacks should I buy? :P

DHs family is! They leave wed morning and come back on the 13th. Their high school freshman son starts the 14th...

Were a bit on edge for this trip as DHs aunt is going - it's her son, his wife, and kid and they're a dysfunctional family unit, and aunt doesn't do well in the heat.

Yup :) works on desktop too!
I like soft pretzels and smoothies lol

From the United website:

Complimentary seat selection and upgrades are not available
When you choose a Basic Economy ticket, your complimentary seat will be automatically assigned prior to boarding, and you won't be able to change your seat once it's been assigned. Advance seat assignments may be available for purchase during booking and up until check-in opens. You will not be eligible to purchase Economy Plus® seating or receive Economy Plus subscription benefits. MileagePlus members, including Premier® members, cannot use complimentary, earned or mileage upgrades.

So it looks like maybe you could pay for seat assignments depending on availability but not upgrade to E+. That's how I read it anyway.
