Is the draw to the CIP the sign up bonus? I'm (im)patiently waiting to be under 5/24 next month, and I was planning on going for CIC as my first business card. I'm looking at the CIC for the 5% categories that I'm currently only getting 1.5% on with my CFU. I know the CIP bonus is much better, but it also comes with a higher spend requirement. Decisions, decisions... :scratchin

I'm back from my 2 week Disney World & DCL trip! I actually got back on Sunday, but with trying to settle back into real life and yesterday's holiday, I didn't get to say hi here yet. I missed chatting with all of you!

The trip was amazing. We had a ton of new first time experiences on this trip. It was a total of 15 nights - 3 nights at Bay Lake Tower, 4 at Beach Club Villas, then 8 nights on the Fantasy. We used DVC points for the land portion, and plan on cashing out URs to pay for part of the cruise (yay for churning!). I could go on and on about our trip, but don't want to bore you. For those who are interested though, some highlights of the trip:
  • Got to try out the new PP lounge at PIT. Much nicer seating, bathrooms have a shower, & there's a nice new bar. Same food as always though.
  • First time at BLT - loved being able to walk to MK. Paid points for a standard room but ended up having a room with a view of the lake AND MK! Got to watch the fireworks from our balcony.
  • DS's loose tooth finally fell out during Father's day brunch at California Grill (highly recommend if you're on the dining plan! a bit pricey otherwise). Cast members gave me a special Tinkerbell pin to put under his pillow (cause Tinkerbell and the tooth fairy are besties of course).
  • Tried the new Snow White dining at Artist Point in the Wilderness Lodge. Great value for one dining credit. DD was dressed as Snow White and we got a hilarious photo where the Evil Queen was glaring at her.
  • Went to Typhoon lagoon for the first time. That wave pool is no joke! It's a wall of water coming at you.
  • Scored a ressie for Palo brunch when we got on the ship. The food was delicious. Definitely worth the money for the unlimited black caviar alone.
  • Silent DJ party! Basically everyone wears headphones. Sounds odd, but is actually a lot of fun.
  • It was the Fantasy's first ever stop at Antigua. We did a private excursion to a secluded beach. It was seriously paradise and had amazing areas for snorkeling. I definitely recommend private excursions over the Disney ones as you get so much more for much less $$$.
  • Castaway Cay has an amazing adult beach. We regretted not putting the kids into the kids club earlier that day and spending more time at the adult beach. Lesson learned.
  • Got to see the new Aladdin movie and Toy Story 4. Both were really good. I wasn't expecting to like Aladdin as much as I did.
  • Got free caricatures of the kids at MCO while waiting for our flight.
We can't wait to go on another cruise. Although, I still have sea legs from this one...it's been days and I still feel like I'm swaying back and forth (is it normal to last this long??). I'm really hoping it goes away soon.

But, the most important question, did the tooth fairy make an appearance on time?

It's not hard, there's not many issues I've read about (where a banker wants docs that aren't needed or other crazy things), and if you already have a biz card they have all your info and are basically just adding a new product to the account. Hubby did it earlier this year and no issues, gave the banker his info, banker saw that he already had a biz card, said 'this will be easy', asked a couple questions and all set. I wasn't with him but when he came back made it sound not hard at all, the tricky question of revenue was even easier as the banker said he could give an estimate or just use a preselected range. Any opportunity to be vague with a "business" hubby said, let's go with the range what do you have ? And basically the lowest range was "under a million" - yep, we'll go with that :)

That said, they will see your biz cards, but I doubt they'd look into that closely to see your opening dates or whatnot. It's not that you can't have multiple CIP's, it's just that you're not supposed to get the bonus on all of them. So up to you on that one.

Also, the requirement for the bonus is only 1,000 but to keep the account fee free you have to have a min balance of 1,500. There's no deposit or other transactions that will do it like the personal accounts. There could be another option that I don't recall, but if it's there it requires greater sums of money so I didn't even bother to remember it :)
Thank you for the detailed information and recap! I can definitely get through that claiming I make less than a million 😂 and if they don't start pulling open dates on the CIP, I won't care about having multiple. I will also go in before applying for CIP#3 on 8/1 so it will only be 2. I think it makes sense to do considering how close my Chase branch is and that $300 can easily cover the AFs of the multiple CIPs I am planning on opening. Thanks for the tip about keeping it fee free. I think I will push back a majority of the funds I used to open the Chase personal accounts to my other bank and leave just enough in the Chase personal accounts to keep them fee free. Then I will write myself a check from my other bank and I should be good to go!

Yes, since no one knows how long the cup will overflowth. We have a CIC and do get lots of use with it. Especially with Gyft.com

My mom has been asking for me to get her a new card (I’ve created a mini churning monster) and she’ll be selling stuff at a garage sale next weekend plus I can post some of her stuff on FB...🤔 Normally I don’t think she could meet a $5k MSR but I know she has taxes due in August. So I guess my mom will have a “business”.
I say go for it! After seeing how easy it was to go for a biz card and the reward you get, it really makes sense. I have plans for my mom's MSR on a combined purchase we will be making. If it doesn't come through in time, I will overpay her utility, cable, and cell phone bills combined with regular spend so she will make it!

This actually might work for my MIL! She has been setting aside some things for me to sell for her on eBay (including one really ancient Apple computer that I think might actually be worth some money). I walked her through getting the CSR almost 2 years ago and that was the first new card she had gotten in at least a dozen years. FIL is in the "I have one credit card why would I need another?" camp and I'm just going to leave him there but MIL would see the value in the CIP.
If she is for it I would 100% do it! Can't beat that minimum 17% return. Plus you get the 20,000 UR referral! Maybe FIL will come around after seeing all the fun and savings you guys are getting. 😉

Question on upgrading CSP in P1's name that has been open over a year to CSR - can points that are on P2 CIP then be transferred to P1 CSR so they can be redeemed at 1.5X?

Looking at booking package thru Chase portal for summer of 2020 and while we are short on points now do we just keep accumulating points until we have enough to book or is there a way to go ahead and book and then pay with additional points that will be earned in the upcoming 11 months?

Hope that made sense :)

Not sure about the booking without enough points, but you can 100% upgrade the CSP to a CSR and combine the CIPs points on it to redeem at 1.5x rather than 1.25x.

I know there's probably a thread here on the Dis for this topic, but I figured I'd ask you guys first. We are booked for our first DL onsite stay in November. DH and I have been to DL before, but it was over 10 years ago and we were staying with family in San Diego so we drove out with them. Booked flights last night and now I'm trying to work out transportation to the DL Hotel from LAX. I've been reading really bad experiences with the DL Express, so I'm thinking we will need an alternative. Also, our flight arrives at 12:05 AM, so I'm not sure what options would be available to us at that time. It will be me, DH, and DS 7 who will need a booster if we are in a car. I was really hoping to avoid bringing a booster with us. Would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, etc.

@Happytogoagain- No, when you go book, you will pay in full so if you are short, the remainder will be a "cash" payment for the difference. What you can do though, if there is still availability and what you booked is refundable, you can cancel, points should go back into your account very quickly and then you can re-book using all points.

Yes, 100%. I personally want a CIC for the 5x categories, but the CIP SUB with referral is too hard to pass up. The initial card opening will clear you 80,000 URs which equals $800 (or $1,000 redeemed on CSP/CIP for travel or $1,200 redeemed on CSR for travel). Even though it has a $95 AF, the SUB is still better than the CIC by at least $205. You would need to spend $4,100 in 5x bonus categories on the CIC to make up the difference in $205 savings. If you want to put that much on the CIC past the MSR period, you would be better off referring for CIP#2 and getting another 100,000 URs! I have decided to keep the CIC in the back of my mind until the CIPpy cup dries up. If I can't apply and get approved for it, I will PC one of my CIPs to a CIC just to get the 5x categories before I am able to apply for one :)

SUBs are beating category spend for me right now. I put a little bit of dining on my personal Plat to meet the MSR and do not regret it at all.

Did anyone else have the 5x Chase Pay promo points not automatically post? I waited about two weeks after my charge posted and sent a SM. I just got a reply that they manually added the missing points to my account. :-)

Me. I need to go follow up on that as I had to SM them as well and they told me to wait two weeks...

I plan to do Uber with my 7 year old. Will bring along the BubbleBum. Not too sure how hard it is to catch a car at midnight, but being such a busy airport I would think it's fine.

Not positive they are in socal or have boosters but I always used super shuttle in sf. You may have other stops but at that time might be ok. I was always the last pick up and first drop because of how close campus was to the airport.

Also check out the DLR board, though I'm sure someone here will have a good answer.

I would take Uber or Lyft from LAX to the DLH. I think it's about $50. When my son was that age we used the Bubble Bum. It's an inflatable booster. You can get them on Amazon for $30. I would practice with it a few times before your trip because it's a bit tricky to thread the seat belt through the brackets.

Personally I always Uber or Lyft but I don't have a car seat to deal with. Here's some discussion on car seat ideas, I've also heard BubbleBum mentioned. DL Express isn't something I would ever recommend due to the potential hour long wait for a bus. Lansky's is the car service that tends to get the most/best recommendations but be aware they are expensive. I had the most terrifying ride in a supershuttle a couple years ago from LAX to DLR so never again for me on that one.
