I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

FINALLY all caught up after being consistently 80-100 pages behind the last 3 weeks :faint:

Saying :wave2: again while also posting that I was just approved for the Schwab card :cool1:! A few reasons why I finally pulled the trigger despite:

1.) Holding onto a Personal Plat. AF should post 6/1, and I'll either downgrade to another Gold or cancel. Figured getting it before I start creeping onto the naughty list is an advantage. I also used the Saks credit for Jan-June yesterday with the 15% Ebates promo, so essentially made $9 on top of $48 in facial cotton :rotfl:. Now with the Schwab card, I can get the Jan-June credit again on this card before the first half of the year is up.

2.) Holding onto a Biz Plat as well. AF should post on 8/1, which I will likely cancel and put myself further closer to the naughty list.

3.) Already hit Amex hard this past year, with some, but not crazy amounts of spend post-MSR given the grocery store categories between CF and Discover; usually I can rely on the BCP to be a consistent source to keep Amex happy. If you've followed @Lain's trajectory over the last 12 months, we've basically mirrored one another other than the BGR, which he got, but I did not. So, I have a LOT of cards with Amex at the moment (10 total and 8 in the past 12 months; 5 CC and 5 charge cards), and it's just impossible to maintain spend, which means this is my window to get the Schwab before I run into pop-up issues. I'm sitting on 405K-ish in MRs, so I want to ensure I have the cash out option, if need be. I'm also 6/24 until next year, but DH falls back to 1/24 in July, so we are in good shape to have me add to the 6/24 for the time being. I would love to drink from the CIPpy cup, but that ship sailed back in December when I decided to go for CP, Arrival+, and Gold. No regrets, when I don't think about it .

I also can't wait for my retention call given his last week :rolleyes1

Fantastic! I hope you have a great time there. Also, this is your Alaska cruise, right? That means that you'll likely get amazing views from Palo. (We did anyway - even saw a pod of whales from there).
That would be awesome. We got 10:30, which I think is early so maybe we can get a good view. TBH, it was the one onboard thing I really wanted to do. I was kind of dreading the stress of trying to find my way to the right place to try to get a res on embarkation, when I have never even been on a cruise before.
Somebody here does have a business based on their rental. I believe it is @CyndiLouWho . Use your social and make the business name your first and last name.
Yep, we have a single rental property which doesn’t even make a profit (long story) but have gotten 3 Chase Biz cards, 1 Amex biz, and countless Citi Biz cards. Use sole proprietor, put your SSN for EIN (ignore the dashes) and SSN. I’m pretty honest about revenue and put $3k, in business 10 years. Haven’t had any issues. Good luck @Hoosier John

One perk I love from my Amex cards is ShopRunner. Free 2-day delivery from a lot of online stores, including eBags!
I don't have that perk. But I just got an email from UPS that my order should be arriving tomorrow.

Just chatted with Alex at Citi and he will put in my request for a match. I quoted the 70K offer out there but only expecting (if I get it) 60K since I applied under the dummy booking 40K offer. I'll find out in 7-10 days!

Cards I recently opened:

3/19 - Chase Freedom

5/18 - Banana Republic VISA

12/15 - American Express Blue Cash - upgraded to Preferred - 3/19 SUB $250 / AF $95

1/17 - Capital One Quicksilver

I have more cards but they are older and only used when they earn cash back.

Future plans for cards:

5/19 - Wells Fargo Cash Wise SUB $200 / MSR $1000

6/19 - Chade Disney Premier SUB $250 / MSR $500 / AF $49

9/19 - Chase Sapphire Preferred SUB 60,000 UR points MSR $4000 / AF $95

9/19 - Capital One Savor Cash Rewards SUB $500 / MSR $3000 / AF $95, waived 1st year

Future trips: DCL in Feb 2020, final payment is due in October; WDW in June 2020. I’m a DVC member, really only travel to Disney and I do not fly (ear problems).

Normal monthly spend is only around $1000 except during certain times of the year so I’m limited on MSR except right now due to cruise payment.

My only question right now has to do with getting the Wells Fargo card and the Disney Premier so close together and then in September getting the CSP and the Capital One Savor in the same month.

Thank you all for the Welcome and Advise!

For some reason I was thinking Chase 5/24 rule was ONLY for Chase cards. Thanks for setting me straight! I will pick a Chase card to get started and will do the referral thing once I get signed up for your reddit site.

Ok, so my wife has a legit business of around 5 years. I am listed as VP or something like that on paper. Guess I could claim that, the problem being the business is in FL and I'm in DC. So the card may ship to the business address?

On the other hand, I rent a house out. So maybe that is a business? It doesn't have an EIN number, though.

We are DVC, so points would be used at or near Universal, as we are switching from WDW AP to Universal AP.

@SouthFayetteFan has offered to get me into the private Reddit group (for a reasonable initiation fee ;) ). Of which I am grateful, because I honestly don't think I can keep up with y'all here. Been trying for a few weeks now, and keep falling behind.
Initiation fee????? LOL! How painful is it to "sign-up" for Reddit, hahaha!! I assure you it costs nothing, lol! :P

You will certainly like our news thread over there in terms of keeping up with major stories here!

If I follow you correctly you are 3/24 with Amex Blue (was this 12/18 and not 15?), Bannana Republic and Chase Freedom. Wells Fargo would be #4 and Chase Disney #5 and then boom you are done with Chase until the May 2020. Is there a reason you want to get the Wells Fargo? $200 SUB is not much. You want to be very careful with your next 2 spots.

ETA I see now you said upgraded card, was confused on the 3/19 Sign up bonus. Would still be very careful with your next couple of cards as you won't have room for anymore Chase soon for quite awhile.

I'm not a fan of that Wells Fargo move personally...and the Disney move isn't potentially the best either. Why not get the no AF card for the $200 statement credit offer?

I don't think we know a lot about you - any player 2 involved here?

Also we never really completed the discussion from last week - would you like to join our DISchurners group? I would PM you with an invite but you have to have 10 messages to PM here and you aren't quite there yet.
You can open both cards and earn both bonuses. Whether that’s your best move...it possibly isn’t as neither of these cards are very lucrative compared to other options. @PolyRob did this because it was a way to get $51 without opening a new card.

Also - I see you’ve made a few comments on our thread. Are you into churning credit cards? Would you like to join our reddit group? Would you want some more customized advice on how to supercharge your CC earnings? We can help with all of that here.

But what you just said IS churning ;)

At any rate, if you’re benefiting from what people are saying here, please consider joining DISchurners where you could support another member by using their link when applying for a card :)

I agree - @Humbug30X - I'd consider going for the Chase Sapphire Preferred now, that MSR will keep you busy for a couple of months while you figure out a strategy.

The best offer on that card is 60,000 points for $4,000 MSR and it is available via a DISchurners link so you could support somebody here who you've found helpful if you went for it :)

Also @Humbug30X - have we had any discussion over whether you have a side hustle that would qualify you for a small business card? (Selling on eBay, rental property, consulting, mowing lawns, babysitting, selling cookies, etc.)...

Sorry I don’t know how to do multi quotes.

I already have the no AF Disney card, I’m after the SUB right now. I can’t get the CSP until September because I’m still saving for the cruise and won’t have the payoff until October, that’s most of the MSR for both the CSP and the Capital One Savor.

Yes the AmEx was an offer to upgrade to the Preferred with a SUB. According to Credit Karma that card still shows as being opened 12/15.

I’m not on reddit but will look into it.

I’m not sure what other Chase cards I would be interested in after this since this is probably the only time I will be able to do this until I plan another cruise.

No P2, just me.

No side hustle and can’t really do business cards yet.

Ok - a couple more questions:
1) Who is the cruise with? Disney cruise or other?
2) When did you open that Disney credit card...I have a potentially interesting strategy for you there that could earn you an extra $100 (maybe)...

Sorta :offtopic: but sorta not.....UNLIMITED VACATION!!! party: Well, not really. :smooth:

Does anyone work for a company that offers Discretionary Time OFF (DTO)?

DH received an email today saying he would be switched over to DTO effective July 1, 2019. While shiny, bright and exciting, I know they are not doing this out of the kindness of their heart. FYE is September 30 so they are trying to dump the ETO liability by then and the affected employees are being urge to use up their time immediately. Of course we have a vacation planned for mid September to use up the remaining FY 2019 days, and another end of October to draw from the FY 2020 bunch that he has not put in a request for time off for either yet. Not sure how this is going to go over with the new policy.

I would love to hear your thoughts about this policy, especially from those who have/had this "benefit". :disrocks:

Not personal experience, but I did a lot of research on this subject when I was writing about it a couple years ago when I was doing some contracting work. There are lots of articles about it online that helps describe the pros and cons. The cons (from my research and talking to a close friend who has this) is that people take fewer vacation days. They don't "owe" it to you, they can say, "sure you can go, I know you planned this months ago, but this is a really busy time and there may be consequences," etc. Also, if he leaves the job (layoff, resign) there is no payout at all. If my DH left his job today, they would owe him more than a month's salary just for the vacation time he has accrued. That's huge right there. The upshot is that people take fewer days off. It's a bonus for the company, not for the employees. Sorry to be so negative. As another poster said, it could be ok depending on the way the company is run, but I'm not a fan.

That would be awesome. We got 10:30, which I think is early so maybe we can get a good view. TBH, it was the one onboard thing I really wanted to do. I was kind of dreading the stress of trying to find my way to the right place to try to get a res on embarkation, when I have never even been on a cruise before.

I forgot this is your first cruise. Wonderful that you were able to get Palo brunch - it's really fun. And the Wonder is nice because it's a smaller ship so you should be able to find your way around quickly. Alaska is amazing, too. What a great choice for a first cruise. I hope you enjoy it. I never thought I'd like cruising, and I'm not the typical circle around the Caribbean kind of cruiser, but I love the cruises that let us explore new regions of the world. Alaska was one of those. :goodvibes

My husband does! I was super skeptical about it when he first started for his company, but honestly it's been great. He has never been questioned about any time he's taken off, and honestly it's been more of his boss asking him why he isn't taking more vacation. I think it really depends on company culture though. But no complaints about it here.
So how much time does he typically take in a year? IIRC, he's thirtyish, compared to my dh, who has been in his field since your dh was born. LOL! I'm just wondering if people are prone to taking less vacation under the DTO program compared to a more traditional vacation offering.
