Yaaaayyyyy! I’m so excited. Our upcoming cruise is less than 3 weeks away. Didn’t book anything thru Disney but wanted to do Palo brunch. It was all sold out. Until today! I got a res for DH and I which will be perfect. Our 30th anniversary is next Monday. We celebrate each year by eating at a restaurant we’ve never been to before. Some we never eat at again, while others have become faves. This year Palo can be our new place to eat! Plus the upgrade of my Disney Visa will net me $51 towards brunch. (Is it wrong that I told all of you before I told DH? )

I am having a whole bunch of issues at Walmart trying to load my sunrise VGCs to serve, but im pretty sure the people don't know how to load serve. I was going without any issues and now the last two times I have had two cashiers who insist on swiping the serve card on my side of the terminal. When I went before and it actually worked the cashier swiped the serve card and I swiped the debit card. Isn't that how it is supposed to work?

Hi! I'm planning a huge disney world vacation with my husband, 2 kids, parents, and sister in 2021. I want it to be as close to free as possible and want to start earning points now. I would love your advice on how to do this! Also, please let me know if it's too early to start this because the points will expire before I can use them. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Below are my responses to your questions:

1) First off, we are going to want you to list ALL credit cards you were approved for in the last 24 months. This would include all personal cards, store cards, business cards (but not things such as auto loans or mortgages). If you have a spouse (aka Player 2) please also list their cards if they are participating in this as well.

ALL PERSONAL CREDIT CARDS
09/17 - Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa Platinum
09/17 - Bank of America Cash Rewards Visa Signature
09/17 - Chase Freedom Unlimited
09/17 - Barclays Cash Forward
12/17 - Kohls
07/18 - Macys

2) Secondly we'll want to know a little bit about you. Specifically - what you spend, and what you want to earn!
  • What amount of spend would you put on a card monthly (i.e. groceries, gas, insurance, cable, cell phone, other expenses)? Anywhere from $4k-$6k per month
  • Do you currently payoff your CCs in full every month or do you carry any balances/pay any interest? Pay in full every month
  • What airport(s) do you typically fly out of? Detroit (DTW)
  • Do you have a preference of Frequent Flyer program? I prefer Delta but I'm open to other airlines
  • Does SOUTHWEST service your airport? Yes
  • Do you have a Hotel Rewards program preference? No but I want to stay in a Disney resort or the Swan/Dolphin Marriott
  • Do you currently have any travel points in any program? (if so, which programs and how much) I have about 50k points with Us Bank
  • What at your specific goals for churning credit cards? (i.e. Disney World Trip, Cruise, European Trip, Cash Back to pay-off a mortgage or student loans, etc. - you can have multiple goals too!) I want to take my whole family, including 5 adults and 2 kids, to Disney World in 2021 for as close to free as possible. I want this to include the flights, park tickets, hotel, food, etc. I want to do a 7 day trip.

How long before DH’s CIP card arrives? It’s been a week. I can see it’s approved on the Chase Ink site, but no card yet. My Sapphire Reserve was overnighted. What’s taking so long?
I feel the same way. I'm waiting on our Citi Biz AA cards. DW leaves for Florida on a ladies weekend on Friday and I don't want her to leave without hers.

Is there an auto line to call to check on it,like with Chase?
Do you mean the Barclay business status check? There’s a website. I’m not able to get on my computer where I have it bookmarked and I can never find by searching.
Can anyone else post the link?

Hi and Welcome...you did an awesome job listing everything out....and have given yourself lots of time to acquire points towards a Disney trip in 2021

it looks like you have opened 6 cards on the last 24 months...but 2 of those are department store cards and may not count against Chases 5/24.
Does the Macy’s card you opened have an American Express logo on it ?
Is your husband willing to open cards as well ? If so please list any cards he has opened or is an authorized user on opened in the last 24 months

Most of us here start with Chase...but until we need to figure out your 5/24 count....the good news is if your 5/24 now...3 of the cards will drop off in September..

Also...Are you willing to apply for business cards or just personal ?

Sadly, the first place they took her, and where she had the emergency surgery, is a small community hospital. She was there, in their ICU, for 3 weeks. Then transferred to Baylor back & spine rehab place in downtown Dallas. That would be the biggest (most 'university' type) place she was seen. There for 2 weeks. Then small rehab place. And today moved to an assisted nursing where people go for rehab. My FIL just does exactly what the doctors tell him so he'd never question anything.

I’m so sorry your family is dealing with this.

Did your fil say why your mil was transferred from Baylor? There may be a very good reason, but I’m pretty sure that’s one of the places my daughter did a clinical while she was a pt student, and she said it was a great place to be for those with spinal and back injuries. I’m not meaning to say that there is anything wrong with being moved out; just that he would want to know the rationale.

I hope you love it! We also go to the water park (Adventure Island) quite a bit in the summer with the kiddos. They're right next to each other so sometimes we'll do both in a day. I haven't been to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon (YET!), so I can't compare AI to those. We want to get out to Volcano Bay sometime this summer also.
We haven’t been to any of the water parks but I’d like to try them all. My number one thing to see is the new HP coaster after it opens.

To answer your question more fully, it can take 7-10 days or more for most credit cards across issuers to arrive. Folks here wait even longer for their Citi AA cards to arrive. Your CSR was overnighted because it is considered a super premium card with an annual fee to match. The other notable card that's automatically overnighted is Amex's Platinum card, another super premium card with a high annual fee. Overnighting or 2nd day air costs the banks money. Chase will often do you a courtesy to expedite one of their cards, but you need to request it. Chase and most issuers will tell you they cannot expedite their co-branding partners' cards.

@wendow so sorry to hear about your MIL. My dad regularly gets epidural steroid injections in his back and what you’re experiencing is one of our worst nightmares.

On another note, having a child recently I’m really getting into getting our finances in order and not paying as much for vacation. I’ve started looking into rewards checking accounts with at least 3% APR and money market savings accounts with at least 2.40%. Does anyone use these types of accounts in conjunction with their churning? If so, do you have any recommendations?

Fantastic! I hope you have a great time there. Also, this is your Alaska cruise, right? That means that you'll likely get amazing views from Palo. (We did anyway - even saw a pod of whales from there).

My Mom has had quite a few, too, and it always makes me nervous, but now I'll be terrified if she gets another one. On the other hand, it's the only thing that somewhat helps her (and she already said no to the 8-10 hour long surgery with no promise of success that they offered years ago).

Yep, she was moved from Baylor. I was not happy with that decision either but I have no say and they would never listen to my thoughts on it. She was moved to Baylor once she was stable in ICU. FIL was sold on it being the best place for her but I think once she got there, they were pushing her pretty hard and she didn't like it. She suffers from depression as well so I think that was playing a part. She always feels everyone is out to get her so I think maybe when the staff pushed her, she felt attacked. Said they 'were abusing patients'.

Also, it's pretty far from where they live and my FIL wasn't able to be with her as much (since still working FT). She wanted to go somewhere 'gentler' and he wanted her closer so they got her moved. Probably a very bad decision from what I know about Baylor.

I think my MIL had gotten them before but I'm not totally sure. She gets a shot in whatever hurts (botox for migraines, knee shots, neck shots, etc). I do think this is a very rare thing to happen but it's just when something does go wrong with these types of shots, it's devastating.

Thank you all for the Welcome and Advise!

Hi and Welcome
I’m not familiar with how that Citi offer compares to what they have offered as bonuses previously

But most of us here start out applying for Chase cards first, due to their 5/24 rule...they will not approve you if you have opened 5 personal cards from any issuer in the last 24 months.
Looking at your cards...you are 3/24.

Chase Ultimate Rewards points ..URs...are very versatile...can be used to book hotels, flights etc on the Chase travel website, transfer to travel partner hotels, airlines or cashed out.

If you are willing to apply for business cards..the one with the highest sign up bonus in the Chase Ink Preferred..CIP....80,000URs after spending $5k in the first 3 months ..there are two others as well CIC and CIU...which offer 50k URs after spending $3k

The Chase personal card with the highest sign up bonus right now is the Chase Sapphire Preferred CSP...you receive 60kURs after a $4k spend

If your wife decides she is willing to play you can refer her to different cards and receive a support bonus as well as her sign up bonus....Chase allows household members points to be combined too.

For some reason I was thinking Chase 5/24 rule was ONLY for Chase cards. Thanks for setting me straight! I will pick a Chase card to get started and will do the referral thing once I get signed up for your reddit site.

You may want to consider and ebay business and follow @bernina 's sample above using your ssn and your first and last name for application.

Business cards help keep you eligible for more personal cards that you might be interested in. The Chase Ink (referred to here as CIP) Business is pretty easy to get, and your business does not have to extravagant or successful, just an outlet to rid yourself of things you are trying to get rid of anyway or may sell in your day to day life. I sell stuff I don't need usually on craigslist. Some use ebay or poshmark, or facebook. CIP is 80,000 UR's if approved and are very versatile - book with them or transfer them or cash them out. Since you have 2 CF's you already know. You can also let the card go after a year unless it's your best card.

Ok, so my wife has a legit business of around 5 years. I am listed as VP or something like that on paper. Guess I could claim that, the problem being the business is in FL and I'm in DC. So the card may ship to the business address?

On the other hand, I rent a house out. So maybe that is a business? It doesn't have an EIN number, though.

Since you're asking about a Citi AA card, I'll point you back to a post from our benevolent dictator with an analysis of all the AA offers out there:
https://www.disboards.com/threads/i...-addl-details.3729982/page-1199#post-60584596

Would you like to use the points to stay at Disney or Universal? Or do you prefer off-site locations? As alluded to in SouthFayetteFan's post, the AA miles can be used for Disney hotel (for now at least) as well as flights so they're more versatile than they appear at first. Chase UR points can be used for Universal hotels and tickets through their travel portal, which can get you a better value points redemption if you have one of their premium cards. They both can be used for offsite as well but more mathing gets into play there :)

It looks like you are 3/24 with one falling off in Oct so it's a pretty good position. Despite their rudeness at removing Disney as a redemption option, Chase UR points are still a favorite and recommended if you're under their 5/24 rule. But it looks like you have some runway so you could still do a AA card and jump into UR too. Are you familiar with Plastiq? For a fee it'll let you pay bills that normally don't accept a CC with a CC so that can be helpful with your mortgage question. Mastercards allow you to pay mortgages through them so that's also a point in the AA card's favor. Sometimes you could trick Plastiq into paying a mortgage with a Visa, and at one point Mr Cooper was working for a few folks here, but it's been a while and I don't personally use it so I don't recall if they caught onto that one.

Don't know how long you've been following along, but we have some additional information posted out on our private Reddit group regarding using the Plastiq service and how to use AA miles for Disney hotels (among many other topics). If you're interested PM @SouthFayetteFan , @Albort , or @Lain for an invite to the group. There's a wealth of information stored there.

You mentioned that you're carrying a balance on one card so I'd be remiss if I don't mention that you should be careful when taking on MSR's to earn points that you pay off the balance each month in full to avoid the interest. It's easy to fall into the spend trap where you either spend money you don't need to or spend it too quickly and not be able to pay in full, just to meet the requirements. It seems like what you have there had a plan so it's not too concerning, but something to keep in mind when starting out in this game. Otherwise you'll just be giving back in interest what you gained in points - And you know the pirate's creed... take what you can, give nothing back!

We are DVC, so points would be used at or near Universal, as we are switching from WDW AP to Universal AP.

@SouthFayetteFan has offered to get me into the private Reddit group (for a reasonable initiation fee ;) ). Of which I am grateful, because I honestly don't think I can keep up with y'all here. Been trying for a few weeks now, and keep falling behind.
