So, I just redeemed some AA miles and used my latest card's $250 travel credit for actual flight and car through the AAvacations site. I didn't want to do it because I need all that for WDW but it's a situation where better to do it than pay cash and actually better flight options on AA portal.

Long story short - my MIL went for a shot in her back about 6 weeks ago. To help with back pain. Doctor nicked a nerve and she immediately lost all feeling below the waist. Had to have emergency surgery to relieve a hematoma in her spine. Hasn't been able to move her legs or any feeling below waist since. Was in ICU for 3 weeks, then moved to a rehab facility and in a few days is moving to a different one. They are going to have to sell their 4000sqft 2-story and get a small ranch. My dh needs to go back to help his dad in about 10 days.

Was super thankful to have the miles and travel credit. SOOOO much cheaper than cash for flight and car!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about this! So unfortunate - will be thinking of your in laws and hoping that she sees some improvement soon. Glad you were able to use points to make a difficult trip a little easier.

I had an issue with my Wyndham Bonnet Creek reservation last December....I could see the reservation on the Chase travel site...never thought to call the hotel directly to confirm.

When we went to check in the front desk told me I didn’t have a reservation. Had to call Chase...numerous times...spoke with many people...they blamed it on the Wyndham central reservation system not giving the reservation to Bonnet Creek....and Wyndham blamed chase travel....

It took about 5 hours and numerous phone calls to straighten out and get in our room.
Ours doesn't even show up on their travel site! That's why I'm so worried, but they did eventually transfer me to someone who said they could see the reservation. It makes me worried that she said the hotel won't see my reservation until a few days out. That doesn't make any sense to me. If they can't see my reservation, couldn't they sell the room to someone else? I tried emailing the hotel, but if they can't see my reservation I don't see that being any help. I confirmed one of our other hotels and it was booked more recently than that one.

In NYS....even if your number isn’t called to report it counts and you can’t get called for another I think it’s 7 years...not sure how other states work

I’d call since you have received them in 2 names
Yeah, I'll call when I get home. I'll have to reread the summons for CO.

Oh no, I'm so sorry!

I wonder if anyone has both to compare the sizes and what you can get into them. My DD has the regular one so I have seen how much she was able to get into it. I always thought it would be great for a Europe vacation because I have heard it is easiest not to have big roller bags there. I guess I have never thought I would use it instead of a roller bag domestically. I use a roller bag and a big tote bag. Do you carry a backpack and a totebag or other type of 2nd bag? Or everything in the backpack? And now I want a cord organizer that I didn't know I wanted.

Well, in about 2 days I'll be able to do that comparison :rolleyes1

My hope is that I'll be able to use the junior for overnights - fit my laptop plus clothes etc. and not need anything else but a small purse. I think I could probably pack for a week in the full size Motherlode. DH was talking about our planned Europe trip (10 days in 2 different climates) and how he'd love to be entirely in carry-on luggage, but that intra-Europe flights often have pretty small carry on restrictions. Maybe with these backpacks we can make that happen (I can just see the 4 of us with our matching backpacks...)

I can’t remember...did you book this hotel before the changeover to Expedia ? Mine was booked prior to the change and one person I spoke with at Chase said that caused the issue

Oh no, that is scary and a terrible situation. So glad that you are able to use your points for it. Are they thinking it will not get better?
I honestly am not sure of the latest thinking. She's not gotten any feeling back so I think the doctors are a bit baffled. Their house is huge and the master bedroom and laundry are all upstairs. The doctors told my FIL they would need to get a ranch house because she may never be able to do stairs. I really don't think the doctors think she will fully recover at this point.

She is moving to another facility in a couple days and will be there for a couple months. After that, she should go home and just be outpatient for PT/OT but I suspect she will need some kind of mobility device to get around :(

We can't either in Delaware---but at least we have always had regular liquor stores instead of PA's bizarre state store system o_O
We are just now seeing 'real beer' in our grocery stores here in CO but I think only a few stores can sell. No wine though. I know people are trying to change the laws here but I've not paid enough attention to know what's going on.

Wow, that is so sad. Prayers for her and your FIL.

I'd definitely have a printed copy of the reservation with me to show the hotel upon arrival. If the price hasn't changed I'd consider cancelling and re-booking in the hopes that the new reservation shows up on the hotel computer system.

That's awful. I can't believe the doctors botched up so badly. I hope they are wrong and she makes a full recovery.

I bet that's what happened. We booked it last September and the email even looks different from the other ones we booked. I'm just really hoping we don't show up in Kyoto where most people speak Japanese and don't have a hotel. I was really excited about this hotel, too, because it's an apartment hotel right next to the Fushimi Inari shrine.

That's great that you had the miles, but terrible news about your MIL. Praying that she regains feeling.

This is mine, and I still feel like a peasant.

how long did it take to accumulate that? currently got half that.

The doctor messed up big time. He knew it immediately too. Cancelled all other appts and headed straight for the ER with them. Stayed with my FIL at the hospital that evening while she had surgery.

My inlaws waited several weeks but then filed a medical malpractice suit. They weren't going to but then the reality began to set in of how life changing this will be. My FIL is going to have to retire early now, help caring for my MIL as my FIL cannot do it all, selling their home and buying something else, the medical bills, etc.
