So I’m just chillin’ in the lobby of the Sheraton Universal Hotel, waiting for my family to wake up after a long yesterday and quick weekend trip to Universal Studios Hollywood, and I’ve been thinking that this is a really nice hotel for being only Cat 5/35k points/night. I’ll try to write up something for the hotel thread later this week.

So, update on us and the grAAvy train for our August trip...we had planned on staying at Pop for 5 nights followed by YC for 4 nights. Based on the sun & fun rates, when I first boarded the train, and the fact that values were available, this made sense and I thought I'd have the miles. But the AA situation has changed a lot in just a couple mos (why!?!?) and the current Disney promos are no longer reflected in AA rates and values are no longer an option. I'm guessing in that renegotiation of the contract with Disney, they are no longer able to offer promo rates or the values (since those are probably filling nicely for Disney direct). I'm super sad but have been working on a new plan.

Here is where I'm currently at:

first 5 nights at Pop paid OOP. One room booked with the Aug FD'ing promo (2 adults) and one room booked under the summer RO discount (3 'adults' and 1 child). I upgraded the dining to the DDP so we'd get 10 TS, 10 QS & 20 snacks. This would allow us to cover 2 character meals & pay OOP for the child at those meals.

last 4 nights at Swan. We've never stayed there but it's so cheap for our dates using AA miles. I can use 140k AA miles for BOTH rooms and those are upgraded rooms with a balcony. $135 per room due at the resort for the fees. That is something I can deal with. We wanted YC so badly for the location and the pool. We cannot get the pool by staying at Swan but we can get the location.

We will still have tons of AA miles left for our next trip. I never thought I'd stay offsite, and while swolphin is more onsite than other resorts, it's still offsite to me. However, Disney pricing is just getting so ridiculous and it seems they cannot play nice with any of the points programs so this is where they are pushing us. Having said that, dh & I walked over to Swolphin when we stayed at BC last month and we were overall impressed. I think we will be ok :D

Haven’t done it but can’t justify the cost. Not enough there to pay oop for it. Better off spending the money on an extra day.

I would do two nights at pop. Upgrade to deluxe dining plan. Do 1 adult 3 kids. Your dining credits only show ts credits it’s not divided into adults and kids. Unless it’s changed. As of October this was the case. It would give you three days to use all your credits. Then stay at the swan since you have the points. I’m not a fan of the value hotels for a couple of reasons. Bus wait is always longer than moderate and deluxe resorts. Rooms are small and we like bigger beds than full size. Plus I like having a fridge.
FYI Erin McKenna’s no longer participates with the dp. I miss using my snack credits there.

Don’t you have to stay more than two nights for free dining? Or are you just saying add the dining plan and pay oop for it? Our fam is 5 adults (according to Disney) and 1 child. I was hoping to get two character meals covered this way and just pay OOP for ds8.

I was also going to suggest on the free dining room put 1 adult and the 1 child and upgrade to deluxe. For the full 5 nights. Check the price, I've found that when paying full price for dining plans, it's very close for 2 adults on regular dining and 1a1c on deluxe. I would guess doing upgrades would be similar. For similar cost, you'd get so much more. And as mentioned, the meal credits are not separated so you can use them all on adults and "adults".

Plastiq update: yesterday I sent support an email about my account bonus. I heard back this morning saying if I thought I met all the requirements that I needed to send the referral code I used to sign up. Waiting to hear back mow.

I know I don't post much, but I need to jump in. I had about 50k AA miles from a credit card sign up so many years ago that I've been sitting on (pre churning days, somehow I read somewhere it was a deal on a card going away, so I did it lol). Also recently boarded the train, got my 20k points from match and 40k more will be added when my statement closes soon.

We just got back from Disney, we went the week before easter and activated the annual passes from our Disney wedding in 2016. Sadly they don't give these out anymore. But because we're dvc and they gave us the full value of an annual pass, we were able to turn them into the kind that includes water parks.

Aaaanyway, now I'm itching to go back. I'm already maxed out on PTO for the year (1.5 weeks upcoming on Nov as well), so I'm trying to figure out if I can make a long weekend for July 4th work. After we went the last week of June in 2018 and said never again to the heat, humidity, and rain! Ha!

Southwest sucks from EWR now, so even though we have companion pass, looking at Jetblue using UR points. It's a lot since it's a holiday and we'd be booking pretty late, but seems the best option for now. Late flight out Wed night, stay at the Hyatt at MCO (using either Hyatt points if the 20k from the second half of the bknus post in time) or transfer UR. Then Dolphin for 3 nights using AA miles, and fly home afternoon/evening Sunday. We'd probably do water parks in the mornings, back to the hotel to chill during the afternoon storms, and parks at night. Would require 1 unpaid day at work that I'd have to get approved.

Anyway, long story short, credit card points/miles would make this possible. But still undecided. Of course any day in Disney is great, but I'm afraid we'll be hot, tired, and cranky. Not sure, have to think on it. Everything would be non refundable so I can't book until we're sure.

I was considering the 4th of july too, since DD is still there for dcp. However, I’m going to be in sc for the month, so I’m not doing it.

I think you just have to go into it with the right expectations. I find that now that I have an AP I am able totally relax on my trips and dont feel like I have to do any specific thing, and therefore the crowds don’t bother me like they used to with only an annual trip.
The heat doesn’t bother me at all, but I love heat. That is a personal thing.

And for us it's the heat that's the issue for sure! We always do APs and multiple trips per year so definitely with you on go with the flow, don't have to do/see everything.

I think what's bothering me most is that we normally do 2 weeks in fall but I started a new job last year and have 10 less PTO days per year. So I'm
trying to squeeze in an extra few days if possible. Just wish it wasn't in summer!

I really hope you get them! Please report what you hear.

Not sure of the new restrictions for free dining. It also depends on your reservations. If they are spread out over the five days then it won’t work to decrease the days. Not sure of your exact dates but if you can rent dvc points for two nights or even one night and pay for the ddp. Then stay at the swan. On our way to see dumbo now otherwise I’d offer to look up availability for you right now. If you want I can look later today once we get home tonight.

@disneymagicgirl forgot to post yesterday when we went in March tried looking for your dd but guess she wasn’t working the two times we went in for fries. My three made it a game to check out the name tags.

For anyone looking for a good character dinner. We found artist point’s food great and the characters were worth it. The evil queen stayed in character. It was one of the best of meals during our March trip. Bon voyage at trattoria al forno was great as always. We did 6 character meals in March and those were the top 2 for our group of 7.

This is one of our options for next year. Is is walkable to the park? Is 2 days enough? I’m thinking 2 Universal, 5 DLR.

Elevated Delta Offers expiring SOON (available via certain support links).

DELTA GOLD BUSINESS: Earn 70,000 bonus miles after you spend $4,000 in your first 3 months and a $50 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase within the first 3 months. (plus a 0% APR for 6 months I believe)
- @gottalovepluto, @wendow

Instant approval for the Amex Delta Gold Business!! But I don't remember whose support link I clicked. I guess I shouldn't start the process and then come back hours later! It was one of the two with links posted. Sorry I can't reach out to one of you to confirm it was you.

Does anyone know how the dining plan codes on Chase? I am planning to add Deluxe Dining to one room for our DVC stay (and will book through the DVC website) in December realized I don't know how that codes. Just planning ahead in case I need spend to meet my CIP MSR as I can purchase this at any time.

Okay, thank you for the pic. On all 3 of my logins, it's not there. Hmmmm..

Sporadic reports from some folks seeing it in the last week or so, it's not wide spread, I think this is maybe the 3rd (ish) report I've heard. I'm not seeing it either. I'd love it if they rolled that to everyone, right now the offers are the only reason I even use the mobile app.
