So this whole rental car and AA miles thing has me crunching some numbers...
It's pretty inexpensive to add a rental to your trip. It seems on a bunch of dates I checked, it's only about 3k miles per night to add it.
DISCLAIMER: I don't know what happens with everything if you never go pick it up, but lets assume that's not an issue...
So I was planning on a split stay trip in January with the following assumptions:
- 4 nights @ Epcot Area resort for 172k AA miles
- 3 nights @ Contemporary resort for 230k AA miles (looking at MK view)
I can get tickets through URs if that still works so I'm tossing them aside for a moment...
However to add dining would be about 87k AA miles on the first portion and 65k AA miles on the second portion. I'd also have to assume an additional cost of about 3k AA miles for the "throwaway rental car".
This means that I can add dining for approx 170k AA Miles or so. I'm going to have a small amount of AA miles leftover so we'll round that down to 160k which is basically 2 more AA mailer signups (they net about 80k points).
If I can pickup a mailer for $40, have both of us sign up at once using that trick, and just Venmo the spend to get the points ASAP (plus then my organic spend can continue to go towards URs and other signups), I could basically buy the dining plan for < $340. Rounding it all off, it's $150 x 2 for Venmo + $40 for the mailer.
This $340 in cost buys me $1,600 worth of AA miles which pays for the dining plan and the rental car. This is like goofy Manufactured Spending for Disney fanatics! I'm seriously considering this suddenly...
