Interesting: Plastiq created a chart to show which type of credit card can be used for each type of payment.. - VftW

Relatedly, someone in the comments mentioned that Plastiq has been down since last night for maintenance. I don’t know of any tech company that has downtime lasting 24 hours and counting. Plastiq recently raised something like $27 million in VC funding, so I’m assuming they’ve got money to keep the servers running and the checks going out. Let’s hope it really is just maintenance and Plastiq comes back online soon.

Am I reading that chart right that it says you can’t use Visa credit for student loan payments? Pretty sure I’ve used my CIP multiple times...

I’m eyeing the Hilton biz too but I opted to get MR cards first since I did t have an immediate need for Hilton points and i find there redemption value to be a bit whacky. I went with the blue biz preferred to hold MRs but not a huge sign up bonus. You have lots of options. Amex prob won’t do an hp so it doesn’t really matter what you apply for first. But I’d go CIP then the Amex biz when I’m ready for more MSR.
What is whacky about Hilton’s redemption?

Thanks for sharing this chart.

Property taxes make me nervous. I'd love to be able to use Plastiq for them though. I have almost $11,000 in property tax bills. It's on about 7 different parcels though, and we're supposed to include our bill/payment stub with them. I really wish Plastiq would allow you to send it to yourself and then pay the person/entity.

It does seem very strange to be down so long. I've been checking the site since yesterday. I thought for sure it would be back up this morning. I finally received my citi aa biz and was planning on using the rest of my ffd's to meet the spend before they expire.

Yeah, can’t wait to have a teenage boy. :sad2: Tomorrow night we’re taking DS, nephew and DSs friend to an AHL hockey game for DSs birthday. Culver’s is next to the stadium, so we’ll have dinner there first. I know DS will want a double burger (which I usually don’t allow) and not sure how much his friend will eat, but at least my nephew will only eat a chicken tender or two. Lol. Then at the stadium, they’ll want more snacks. I may be able to meet MSR in my current card. :P

Lol, got any sports kids in that group? Make room in your future grocery budget! My Mom was able to keep up with my teen brother until he joined the cross country team & then he basically inhaled everything. Do you know what an In-N-Out 4x4 is? She found out! (4 patties & cheeses :) on really hungry days it was straight up 2 double-doubles)

My DS is almost 17 and runs track and cross country and still eats like a bird. If he likes what he is eating, ie mostly cereal and pizza, he can eat a lot. What I cook for dinner, I tell him all the time he doesn’t eat enough to keep even an ant alive. He will come home from practice and have a snack, tall glass of chocolate milk and maybe crackers or something small like that. Then when dinner comes he says he is not hungry. He can eat a pretty big burger. There was some colossal burger at Cowfish that he ordered and ate almost the whole thing. But he didn’t even start eating burgers till the last few years. He hates chicken. He really could do without most meat. I keep saying well he is saving me lots of money. Though I do worry about his eating. Especially now that he is on Vyvanse we are supposed to watch his weight and make sure he is not losing.

I have paid my property taxes with Plastiq. I was nervous about it too so I called the Tax Collector and asked her about it. I told her I was planning to pay using a bill paying service and would not be able to include the stub. She told me no problem. Apparently, many people pay the taxes using their online bill paying service through their banks and that is exactly what she assumed I would be using. Plastiq prints your parcel number/ID number on the check so they can easily track the payment to you.

I could use some advise.

My wife and I will be spending the next 4 years saving up for a Mediterranean cruise for our 35th wedding anniversary. My plan is to buy a Disney gift card every month, which will come pretty close to paying for the cruise.

I'm thinking that it would be wise to use a new, dedicated credit card to buy these Disney gift cards each month. What I'd like to do is get a credit card that would accumulate miles with an airline, such as United (for international travel). The credit card would be used ONLY to buy a Disney gift card each month. When the credit card bill arrives, it would be paid off each month.

I'll confess that I've never participated in a program where air miles are accumulated, so I know absolutely nothing about it. But if I can use a credit card that would help offset the air fare to and from Europe, I would be foolish not to try.

So, credit card gurus, which credit cards do you recommend we investigate to accumulate as many air miles as possible over the next, four years?

I truly appreciate the experience and advice of all those willing to proverbally hold my hand through this.
Personally I would get an AMEX Everyday and bank those MRs, then transfer to an airline partner. Unless you have a specific airline in mind. I got tickets from Minneapolis to Orlando for 17,000 points RT on Delta. It's probably the simplest way to transfer to multiple airlines. What cards do you have now?

When I look around down there I'm mostly like, dang we cant even get a starter house for that price :rotfl: Crazy how different things are!

We visited a DISer friend in Indiana a coupe of years ago with a group of other DISers that we cruise with. Their home was very lovely and we all got to talking about the cost of real estate in various parts of the country. I can tell you that their home would have cost 3 times as much in our area. We are also looking to relocate closer to WDW when we hit retirement. Fortunately, south Florida still tends to have inflated real estate pricing compared to central Florida so it shouldn't be as bad. Sometimes we will drive around neighborhoods after visiting WDW to get ideas on where we might want to live. Celebration, Dr. Phillips, Windermere and Winter Garden all look very nice.

Just opened a new Chase checking for DH for his car. Decided I want to keep his car funds separate from all other money. It was fast (took 60 seconds since he's already a customer) - no bonus so I hope I don't get shunned here. I did sign up as a Disney option so he will be getting a Disney debit. I chose the one with all the characters instead of Elsa to protect his masculinity, lol.

I hope the Plastiq site comes back up as I am planning to use it this month for property taxes too.

Still down as of this morning. Plastiq tweeted this yesterday afternoon:

Hi there! Currently, our systems are offline and we are urgently working to restore service. We will notify you as soon as service becomes available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope to be back on shortly!

Almost sounds like this wasn’t planned downtime. Very weird. Especially for a financial services company. But then Wells Fargo was down several days last month.

United, American, and Delta are the only major carriers out of our homewtown airport. :) In 2 years we're looking to fly to Seattle or Vancouver and take an Alaskan cruise.

I don't have loyalty to any of these carriers, but I'd like to start working towards some big savings on this 2021 trip. Any advice on which way to go? I do have Chase UR and could use them for this trip. Perhaps the best strategy is to keep plugging away at those? I have quite a bit of organic spending (especially if using Plastiq) so I could potentially earn quite a few larger bonuses.

We don't have loyalty to a particular cruise brand either. I personally want to take a Disney cruise, but my uncle and cousin's family is planning to go as well, and I'm certain they won't want to pay more for Disney. (However, this year there was a military Disney cruise discount last minute, and if these other family's plans fall-out, I would be tempted to wait-and-see what becomes available, if anything.

Is your home airport a hub for one of those 3? That could make a difference. All three are major carriers in Miami, Atlanta and Houston. However, Miami is a hub for American, Atlanta is a hub for Delta and Houston is a hub for United. If your home airport is a hub or focus city for one of them, that could make a difference on whether or not you will be able to find decent flight availability. Most of us here don't have any particular loyalty to any of the big 3 airlines. But, some of us are American Airlines, Delta and United hostages because of where our home airports are located.

Hey guys! It's been a while since I've been on this thread, so forgive me for being out of the loop. I had a few questions pop up and knew this was the place to ask.
  1. Has anyone booked a Disney resort with UR points by calling the cruise and vacation package line through Chase?
  2. Do they let you apply your UR points to the total cost and then put the balance on the card?
  3. If booking via points on a CSP (which is what I've got), will I get the 1.25 redemption rate doing it this way?
Thanks for any help!

You're right. I've paid our student loans using Visas to hit their MSRs.

Let's just think of the chart like a guide. I'm certainly not going to contact Plastiq about this discrepancy and have them be like, "oh, you're right, let's fix it so you can't use Visa credit for student loan payments."

Wow, you have been gone for a while :-0 You can no longer book Disney with UR's. Can't do it online and can't call. It was a "business decision" made by Chase. Many of us are starting to accumulate AA points for this purpose. Others will be able to provide more info.

Oh, you have been away for a while...

As of mid-September 2018, Chase removed Disney hotels and packages from the UR portal and the cruise and tour department, so it's no longer possible to use UR points to book Disney trips. I believe the only Disney thing left on the portal are park tickets.

Ah! Oh well! I knew they'd taken the resorts off of their travel portal thing, but the last I'd heard/read, you could still call. I guess it was a matter of time.

Thanks for the info!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - but Disney resorts using UR's ended a few months ago.

You are of course welcome to try calling, and don't forget to express how upset you are that Disney is no longer bookable with UR's. There are a few members on here trying to get Chase to fix this. Good luck.

Could you try getting a WDW ticket with URs on your highest redemption card and then upgrade it to an AP with discounted GCs?
Theoretically yes. Alas this time I’ve already bought my ticket straight with Disney so I won’t be a DP on that.
