We normally try to set things up on our own through Zillow. With everything being online it's gotten pretty easy to find and look at houses
I will tag on this and just say that also at least in Denver the last few years, due to the market a lot of things don't actually hit public listings. Realtors will know of houses going up and basically match it to a client they have who decides to buy it, and poof... never hits any website.

So I am a tad confused on the free trips to bloggers to review the Bonvoy program. It is a loyalty program. How is one trip, not booked on loyalty points, going to review a loyalty program?

May not matter but I’d apply for the CIP first....not familiar with Hilton’s....are you interested in accumulating MRs...there are quite a few Amex business MR cards....I got the BBP...not a large sign up bonus but it earns 2x on all purchases
I was looking into the BBP and it looks like the welcome offer is a 15 month 0% APR. I don't see any MR Points but I may not be seeing right. I don't think I can bring myself to open a card with no SUB.

Also, what is the self referral through AMEX that I see mentioned? Is that only available on certain AMEX cards, like the AMEX Business Gold? For my SPG biz, I only see that I can refer others to the same card.

I’m wondering if I agree to write a review on our existing Bonvoy trips to the Al Maha in Dubai and St. Regis in Puerto Rico if they will refund my points. Perhaps even a review on how I used travel packages to get first class flights on Emirates. At least my trips were booked on points and not just given to me.

From SPG biz you can only refer other Marriott cards. To refer to any card you need an AMEX branded card.

The BBP does have a signup offer but it’s only available through support click I believe.

I’m probably being slightly picky on houses but I want nice schools, near dh’s work, and SOME kind of grass (which seems to not be a thing in lots of areas). Most of the areas we’re looking in you have to spend at least $320k if not more for a decent house. We paid about half that for our house and I would say our house is bigger than a starter home
Denver is starting to slow down a bit but some listings are $300k+ for a condo or townhome! Not all but still. And a lot of what had been happening the last few years was people were getting things for cheap before they hit the market because they were foreclosures or older folks' who hadn't updated since the 60s/70s... then they do a really bad flip and want $400k+ for a 1300sq house that has poor workmanship and a bad layout... I'm trying to avoid the really long rant I go on about these places :P
@Haley R I put in Doctor Phillips but nothing really specific for that area came up. The home I chose in Winter Haven has an elementary with a rating of 7 and then both the middle and elementary are rated a 3 :scared: I got the impression from talking to various people that the schools in FL are not always the best. As homeschooler's, I listened as I never know when I could need to put my kids into school but also tuned out some of that chatter because well, I'm still able to homeschool. However, you would definitely want to contact a realtor to help guide you.
I am already anxious about schooling for future kids. I feel we had a really good public school program growing up and the city puts a lot of money into it. I have not been impressed with anything I've seen here in CO (mainly Adams 5 star whatever as that is who MIL works for and where DH/Brothers/old college roommate went/cousins middle age kid currently goes to). Just what I hear now + comparing my high school experience vs DHs/roommates/etc...

The bonus is available with a support linkin our reddit dischurners group.....and yes Co branded cards can only refer to thoses cards....you can self refer from the BBP

Through referral there is a 10k sign up bonus with $3000 spend. Not great but also not terrible considering it is a no AF card and the 0% APR option is nice. Also balance transfer option. Plus 2 times on everything is a lot better than most. If you or P2 has a MR earning card you can refer...that is why I got one for DH when (gasp) he did not have the pop up.

I think I am pulling DS9 on 4/1/19. He says he wants to homeschool next year, and since April is state testing and May is basically nothing b/c testing is over (don't get me started :sad2:) it seems like a good time to pull him and start finding our rhythm as well as focus on area he needs support. I may PM you with questions soon if you don't mind.
Another homeschool Mom here. Good luck with your decision. One thing I always tell people when they ask and are considering homeschooling is, Try it and see. School will always be there. One of the great things about homeschooling is you can make it whatever you want and tailor it to your individual child. As it turns out, of my three children it looks like I have one above average, one pretty much average, and one who struggles. So for my DS9 who struggles I have been able to just focus on reading and math. Much like our churning group here, there are many ways to homeschool. You are able to have the freedom to find what works for you and do it. Good luck!

You don't even need an EIN to get a CIP#2 within 24 months of your last CIP. Just sayin'.

Great point - I'll try that route first, and report back!!

I always start out that way, but lately it hasn't been working so well. CIP call was yet another one when I finally lost it and asked for the guy's manager, who was able to do what the first guy said was impossible. I try so hard, but then I just lose my patience. :faint:

It's so frustrating when it gets past that point!! I was at a meeting for my son at his school (he has a few learning disabilities, so we were going over his plan) - I about lost it when they had no clue about the statutes in our state regarding his education. Sometimes the momma bear has to make an appearance!!

If you are thinking of flying into SLC and don't have one of the Delta cards I would think about getting one of those. They have an increased sign up right now. Delta would be a lot easier to fly into SLC then SW. If you have an Amex you could self refer. Assuming of course you could use Amex for your medical bills and are willing to commit to the ongoing spend. (I am sorry about your son; medical problems are the worst).

I will look into that! I have the Rose Gold card, and have had it forever - it's our go to when we're in between spends. Do you think it's worth a x/24 space if we have about 300K MRs we could potentially transfer?

And thank you - luckily we found out early on about the defects, and they were able to correct one when he was 6 months old with a balloon angioplasty. The other can be treated with medication before surgery would be required, thank goodness! It does prevent him from playing contact sports, which does suck because he LOVES lacrosse and soccer (which soccer wouldn't normally be considered a contact sport, but they do take hits in the chest frequently!). He is pretty cool about it, but he's almost 12 and I know it bothers him sometimes. :sad1:

The 10k MR from my second AT&T Wireless $175 pre-payment with my Biz Plat are in my Amex account this morning! I'm very happy to see them since I never got a "Congrats on using your offer" email on this one. @CaliforniaGirl09 I wouldn't worry too much about not getting the email as long as your payment was for AT&T wireless. Seems like Amex has been a little inconsistent lately on the confirming emails. A Plated payment just hit DH's Biz Green this morning that should trigger a $15 off $50, but no congrats email on that one either (at least yet). But I just double checked, and the offer is on his card and hasn't expired.

Also, my Aviator MC arrived yesterday! About to activate it and make my single purchase....

United, American, and Delta are the only major carriers out of our homewtown airport. :) In 2 years we're looking to fly to Seattle or Vancouver and take an Alaskan cruise.

I don't have loyalty to any of these carriers, but I'd like to start working towards some big savings on this 2021 trip. Any advice on which way to go? I do have Chase UR and could use them for this trip. Perhaps the best strategy is to keep plugging away at those? I have quite a bit of organic spending (especially if using Plastiq) so I could potentially earn quite a few larger bonuses.

We don't have loyalty to a particular cruise brand either. I personally want to take a Disney cruise, but my uncle and cousin's family is planning to go as well, and I'm certain they won't want to pay more for Disney. (However, this year there was a military Disney cruise discount last minute, and if these other family's plans fall-out, I would be tempted to wait-and-see what becomes available, if anything.

@calypso726 did a great job pulling up comprables for flights. I'll say that I've found UA overall the easiest to use, points wise, especially since URs transfer to United Mileage Plus easily. I made up dates for a May trip (when there are usually the MTY-military discounts) and you could fly non saver (since it's only 2 months out) RT for 2 economy for about 130 UA miles OR RT mixed (economy to ORD, ORD to YVR) for 200 UA miles.

AA miles redemption tickets, especially if you're looking for more than one ticket, can be much harder to find, especially from a small market.

Much as I love Delta, they surely do want a lot of skymiles (normally) for a flight so that might be the last ditch currency. I just priced the same flight dates in May (*granted all the less expensive awards are long gone) and for 2 people RT it would be 181, 000 Skymiles for economy comfort, 170-ish for economy.

Personally, I'd keep hoarding URs and consider ditching your family and get an MTY for a May Alaska cruise (usually the first cruise of the season will have the MTY and it's a great deal). Joking, sort of on the ditching family. But...I would keep an eye on the MTY rates for DCL, there are usually several at any one time but especially right before summer. DH and I have no shame using them:). If my DD weren't graduating in May, I'd be booking the transatlantic one in a heartbeat!

I was actually in education prior to kids. I taught in Cherry Creek, which is almost as good as the districts can get here in CO, and even then, the school I was in was a poor performer. I don't remember hearing a lot of good things about Adams 5-star. We are in Jeffco now and there are some good schools but most are mediocre at best. Funding just isn't there. If you look at the stats, CO has some of the lowest per pupil funding in the country. Thankfully, CO has open enrollment so you could take your future children to any school that you want BUT the good schools are very hard for those not living in that area to get into. Most of those are on a lottery system. You'd really want to move into an area that has good schools but then the houses are $$$$. Like they aren't already $$$$ enough :(

Thanks for your DP! I'm interested to hear if @CaliforniaGirl09 gets her credit as well.

Love this...it’s so true. I homeschooled my kids until my oldest was starting 10th grade. I was so happy they were able to stay home those early years. There’s such a wide span of time when it is “normal” for them to be ready to read. Learning at home gave us flexibility for them to learn when they were ready. My first read at age 4, but my second wasn’t ready until much later...he was around 7 or 8 (but was reading music well at age 5!). We loved the flexibility in planning vacations too! Not for everyone of course but if it works for you it can be wonderful for the kids!

Thank you! I was also thinking that about can always go back. If April/May are awful, he just returns in Aug like normal. I don't see that being the case, but it is nice to have on the back burner.
My DS9 really struggles with reading fluency so that was my plan...just reading alot and add in math fact drills so he has the multiplication committed to memory for the start of 4th.

My DD19 was reading really well at 4, and the first day of 1st grade her teacher called me and said she tested reading and comprehension at halfway through 7th grade.
Fast forward to my boys....struggle, struggle, struggle. My now 5th grader is on grade level now, so I know not to stress about my 3rd grader...he will get there...the boys seem to just be late bloomers.

Yes, a tremendous help. Thank you :)

CSR 10/16 (I have to reduce this limit -- it's too high for my needs)
Hyatt Chase 7/18 (probably a good idea to reduce this limit as well)
Chase CIP 9 or 10/18
AmEx Aspire 12/18
AmEx Hilton Bus. 1 or 2/19

Between the Hyatt and CSR I'm at 13% of HHI. But the limits are still high and I will reduce both of them.

I have been putting a bit of spend on both AmEx cards each month to keep them active for AmEx (to avoid the dreaded pop-up).

My first CIP app was confusing because I use my maiden name at work, so initially set up the business with my maiden name. I don't have any legal documentation with my maiden name on it, so I had to change the business name to my married name. A few times I've used my married name on the phone the customers by accident.

Without knowing more, it looks like your CLs should be fine to apply for another CIP. And the last card opened that Chase knows about was the Aspire back in December.

In the future, you may want to be more proactive about reducing your Chase CLs. You can send a request to reduce your CLs to whatever amount you feel comfortable with by SM, and a Chase rep will reduce the CL and tell you it's effective immediately. You'll see your new, lowered CL on your account, but Chase doesn't actually report the lowered CL to the credit reporting agencies until the close of statement for that card or when you pay off that card in full. So if you're applying for a new Chase card, Chase may not see the new, lowered CLs reflected on your credit reports if you reduced them too recently and the new CLs haven't been reported yet. So it's a good idea to kind of go over your Chase CLs a month or more before you plan to apply for another Chase card and do some cutting if you think it's necessary. Again, it seems like you should be fine to apply for another CIP right now.

Another consideration is if you cut too much CL from your personal cards, it could have a slight negative impact on your credit score because that reduces the total available credit you have and may raise your % of credit utilization because your existing balances are now taking up more of your lowered CLs.

Reducing CLs on Chase biz cards shouldn't hurt your score because those cards, their credit lines, and balances aren't reported to your credit reports anyway. Some advise keeping enough CL (>$5k) on your Chase biz cards in case you need to move that amount around to open up a new card (Chase won't let you move personal CLs to open biz cards or vice versa), but I think that assumes denial and recon where you'd offer to move around CLs to open a new card. But proactively reducing CLs is intended to increase your chances at automatic approval without having to recon. And I haven't seen too many success stories about Chase reps moving around credit to let you open Chase biz cards. I keep my sock drawer Chase biz card CLs low, like $1k on the Marriott Biz. I try to keep CLs on even useful biz cards like the CIC in check (like ~$5k), because the 5x category is capped at $25k/year anyway. My CIP CL is at $5k, but I'm seriously considering cutting it even further because Chase has rendered its 3x categories almost useless. But then Chase keeps increasing my CLs back up. It's a struggle.

Exactly! You can always go back. My cousin in TX pulled her ds out in 4th or 5th. He was way behind and just kept falling deeper and deeper in the crack. She homeschooled him for one school year, and she didn't even do the teaching. She used their state online k-12 type program so he stayed with the materials the school was using but he worked at home with an online teacher grading his work. Back to school a year later and he tested way ahead of his classmates. It clearly worked well for him.
