All the people with limited credit have to do is go to somewhere like Churchill mortgage where they have manual underwriting...endorsed by Dave Ramsey...and they take these things into consideration already. They are very thorough...annoyingly so if you have a good income and credit and just want the mortgage process to be quick. When we built in 2013 they were the preferred lender for our builder so we used them for the discounts.
And since banks accounts and utilities aren't credit, I don't really think they are a good indicator of how someone with bad credit will manage future credit.

True, if you're purchasing a home. But I also see the new way of monitoring being helpful if someone is applying for an apartment building that does credit checks or purchasing a car. I even had to have a credit check at my last job! There's more purpose to having a good credit score than only obtaining financing. A record of steady income (from bank statements) and timely payments (from utilities) could do wonders to improve the scores of those with bad/limited credit and may open up more opportunities for them.

Yes, it was the Concourse, and it was sooooooooooooooooo good. It's was where the Contempo Café is now.

All this CIP talk, and I don't even have one CIP LOL, Or CSR, CSP, CIU... you get the picture.
I don't either. I'm hitting amex cards right now. I'll get to chase e eventually.
We have a Facebook page.

I think we have a new dischurners goal: see how many people we can get to the state fair lol
Not Iowa!

And I agree that for them this is good. However I don't need them that up in my business and would prefer to opt out of it. To me this needs to be optional not across the board for everyone unless it's something that will only help and not hurt. If I already have excellent credit it's really none of their business how much I have in the bank or how I pay my utilities, which wouldn't be through my bank account if I was in charge of paying them.

I agree with this. I also don't keep much in my checking account and wouldn't want that negatively impacting my score. The bank account angle bothers me - it feels invasive. But honestly, I can't get too worked up about the utilities. I have heard that some utilities report to the CB anyways? Although none of my utilities have ever reported. Hopefully it will stay opt-in only!

Have a few more things please!
First I want to thank all who replied to my question(s). I don’t know how to quote so...‍♀️
Could I be invited to your reddit group? Maybe I won’t have to ask so many questions here!
I keep seeing references to the dreaded Amex pop up. What is it??
And last but not least how do I add a profile pic? If I hover over my name avatar isn’t in the drop down box.
Thanks

Actually, most utilities are credit. Any time someone allows you to pay after the service has been performed/goods are received, they've extended you credit, and many providers actually run your credit before new service is established. If you have no or poor credit they may require an upfront deposit to cover any potential losses should you default to mitigate the risk of extending you credit.

If someone had a bad patch with credit, there's no way for the new lender to know if that was a one time thing or a pattern of bad choices. If they can show a pattern of good credit behavior with their utilities or money management (not being overdrawn, have recurring income, stuff like that) it can put that bad patch in context for the lender. For people who rent, don't own/lease cars, and have no need for student or other unsecured loans, there's not many other options for proving credit worthiness when needed.

I think it's good to have as an optional service for people who need it, but I'm not sure I want the banking part to be rolled up into a credit score on it's own. Rent, utilities and other payments I don't mind being reported or included and makes sense should they go that way in the future. I'm not sure why but I feel the bank part just goes too Big Brother, I guess.

ETA: Thinking more, I think it comes down to I’m ok with you seeing where the money goes to and not so much on how or where the money comes in. You’ll get paid, just never you mind how you got paid, just know it happened and will continue to happen – that’s all you need. Now move along…

Part of it could also be I’m sitting on double digit numbers of bank accounts right now and don’t really want to explain all that :rolleyes1

If you pm @SouthFayetteFan , @Lain or @Albort they can add you

Not sure how to add I picture I did mine so long ago

The dreaded Amex pop up says your not eligible for the bonus on the card your applying for....no one seems to know why some get it and others don’t...the speculation is you should keep spending on your Amex cards after receiving the sign up bonus and never close one of there cards before you’ve had it a year....
