I'm considering applying for a Frontier Mastercard. Currently they have a 40,000 bonus miles sign up. We're taking two trips this spring/summer and I'd really like to capitalize on those miles. However, I won't have $20,000 in spending in the next two months!

Do the bonus miles help me reach Elite status?

Oh, DH has to fly to KC for a day next week for work. Pray they book SW... :rotfl:

ETA: Also pray they book like tomorrow or Thursday so the prices are really high :rotfl:

I took the upgrade as well when it was 5KRR. I'd still do it for 2500. I agree with @palhockeymomof2 that the upgraded boardings and credit are worth it. The credit does apply to the $5.60 fees if you are using points to book flights.

ETA: I just checked and my $69 fee was refunded June 1 and the $149 fee posted December 1.

So mine should be posting 3/1 then...

Hello All,

I'm a long-time reader of the Budget Board and occasional poster. I like the way that my wife and I have set up our credit cards to date, but I figure that, if there's any place that can help us ensure that we're maximizing our efficiency, it's this thread!

So, here goes with our info from the opening post of this thread:

1) Credit Cards (the cards we have and how we use them)
xx/02 - CITI Mastercard Dividend (5% rotating categories) (me only)
xx/04 - CHASE Freedom (5% rotating categories) (wife only)
07/14 - AMEX Blue Cash Preferred (6% groceries up to $6K, 3% gas; $95 annual fee)
03/17 - CITI Double Cash (2%)
01/18 - UBER Visa (4% dining out, 3% airfare/hotels)
09/18 - Target RED (5% Target) (wife only)

2) Secondly we'll want to know a little bit about you. Specifically - what you spend, and what you want to earn!
  • What amount of spend would you put on a card monthly (i.e. groceries, gas, insurance, cable, cell phone, other expenses)? I don't think there's such thing as a normal month for us, but let's ballpark this at $3-4K.
  • Do you currently payoff your CCs in full every month or do you carry any balances/pay any interest? In full every month. I used to pay it off weekly but I've shuttered that paranoia thanks to the autopay.
  • What airport(s) do you typically fly out of? GRR (Grand Rapids, MI)
  • Do you have a preference of Frequent Flyer program? No. We also don't fly all that often (1-2 times per year).
  • Does SOUTHWEST service your airport? Yes. They are our preferred carrier, though again, we don't fly much.
  • Do you have a Hotel Rewards program preference? No.
  • Do you currently have any travel points in any program? (if so, which programs and how much) No. We are second-class (resale) DVC members at PVB, but I think this is asking about credit card point programs.
  • What at your specific goals for churning credit cards? (i.e. Disney World Trip, Cruise, European Trip, Cash Back to pay-off a mortgage or student loans, etc. - you can have multiple goals too!) Maximize value. I generally like to maximize cash back - I withdraw the cash every month or two, then invest the proceeds in an ETF. However, we go to WDW enough that I'd prefer the most efficient use of cash back. If it's WDW, great! If it's cash, great!
  • Who does your travel party consist of? (Spouse, Kids (& ages), other relatives/friends) Me (32), DW (31), DD (7), DD (4)
I'm unreasonably excited to hear what you all have to say! Thanks!
Welcome!! So one major question to ask is - are you looking to maximize your return with having a few cards open. OR are you looking to start opening 4-5 (or more) cards each year to really ramp up your return?? The advice would be very different depending on whether you’re looking to jump into the CC churning game or not :)

I'll also send you an invitation to our private Reddit group "DISchurners" via a PM here on the DIS :)

Help please :-)

I just received my SW biz card, my first biz card with Chase (and ever lol). I assume I need to create a separate business account with Chase to access the card since it does not appear in my listing o' cards? How on earth do I do that?
I called and they helped me combine them all into one online sign in.

Hi and Welcome....the details you gave are so helpful.....Most of us here start applying for Chase cards due to their 5/24 rule...which means to be approved for their cards you have to have opened 4 personal cards or less in the last 24 months
It looks like your 2/24 and your wife is 3/24...with another card dropping off in March.

There are a lot of Chase cards that earn URs....some of the largest bonuses are with business cards ...Would you consider thoses at all....with your spend you could easily meet the $5k spend the Chase Ink Preferred ..CIP...requires to earn 80k URs...then you could refer your wife ...she gets another 80k URs and you get a 20k URs for the referral ...with the MSR...you’d have 190k in URs to book travel with or cash out for $1,900

Since you fly SW...their cards could help as well...earning RR points and you could also go for the companion pass

We are 4-7 currently for tomorrow, with a potential for a bigger storm this weekend. Ours is also up to the mailbox. I just called the city and suggest they find other places on the cul de sac to push the new snow. We shall see. March had darn well better be a better month than February, this is just ridiculous!
I don’t think we have anywhere else in our culdesac for them to put the snow. They might have to come scoop it and move it but I doubt that will happen. March better be super nice!

You can start to set it up online but unless they fixed the glitch you 'll have to call in to get a security code to finish setup. If you want to combine it with your existing personal account you can have them do that then as well. They can merge your personal into the business but not the other way, so still need to create a business account.

But just the same link on the sign in page for " enroll now" and then pick the business option.

Does anyone have experience booking flights on Allegiant Air? I just booked 4 one-way tickets in a single reservation of just over $500 total. But, they showed up on my CC as 4 separate charges, one for each ticket.

Does anyone know if this is typical for Allegiant, or if there is a way to get future reservations to go through as a single charge? We need to book another one-way with them in July for 4 people, and I was planning to use DH's Arrival+ as a travel eraser. So, all the charges need to be above $100. I'm hoping single tickets might not be that high.

Has anyone been to the Baltimore Aquarium recently? Are there ever any discounted tickets? DH and I are thinking about using my Marriott free night and spending the night in Baltimore. It's been a looooong time since I've been to the aquarium, so we're thinking of doing that and going over to National Harbor for some shopping and whatnot.
They have Friday after 5pm discounted tickets that we've used twice in 2016 and 2017. I'm so excited that Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto has the same thing! We just bought our tickets to "Shark's after Dark" for a nice discount.

There it is...the @amalone1013 signature comment :) LOL! I seriously cannot look at that one without thinking of you :D (Maybe that's not a good thing...:scratchin:scratchin)
I can't help how I feel! :rotfl:

This is the image that accurately describes how I feel at work:
