Ok! I have been reading everything. I think I am getting a grasp on it. I figured out my flight stuff. Frontier kids can fly free.

So I was looking at taking baby steps in my journey. So I was going to start with the chase Sapphire card. Does this sound ok?

I also wanted to look at earning points for next years trip. We are taking my daughter to universal as a present for completing elementary school. Any other cards recommended for this goal? We are looking at travel at the end of May beginning of June.

Thanks all the help is very much appreciated.

Not sure how much spend you can do right now or if you are in 1 or 2 player mode. But I agree with what others said to do the CIP and the CSR. The CIP will get you 85k UR minimum after the 5k spend If you can refer your P2 then that will get you another 105k minimum after the spend. You can transfer the UR into one account. If you haven't already joined the dischurners group message @SouthFayetteFan @Albort @Lain (sorry can't remember my password to log on to check at the moment, need to find my phone to log on)

If in 2 player you could have one do the CIP and one do the CSR. Then transfer all the UR to the CSR account to redeem.
If you are interested in seeing how much your trip would cost go to universal's site/expedia and look up what hotel and room you want. Then take the cost and divide by 1.25 for the CIP or 1.5 for the CSR. So say the package is 2,400.00 take 240000/1.5 and that will cost you 160,000 UR (CSR) or 192,000 UR (CIP). Hope that helps.

I typically redeem my MRs for gift cards (pretty much Home Depot, Barnes & Noble and Olive Garden) at 1cpp.

I've been thinking of cashing out for Home Depot. But I won't do it until I need a gift card for them to hold my options open.

Now I feel as if it's a good option. FOMO about all the flight options that would net greater value, but they are not directly for me. I could book for someone else, and may think about that as kids are doing a weekend at Octoberfest in Germany in October, I think it is.

FYI August is a bit gross here. I’d recommend ric. I think you can get a non-stop on jet blue.
@kidsfirsttrip May and early June aren't too hot and the crowds don't seem too bad then. Want to say they offered a season pass for $299 and if you have pre-k and under theres a free pass option but you have to register.

We’re in need of a new dishwasher so my MRs are about to pay for that. Not a “sexy” use of points but very practical so I’ll go ahead and do it.

Same as you though, I wait until I have the need for a gift card. The e-gift cards from Amex come through so quick that there’s no need to redeem ahead of time. :)

Thank you. I’m always trying to plan ahead. I have been looking at universals site but it is a bit of a different beast.

I went with the sapphire because 5k spend might be a little hard I’m gonna see how the 4K goes and then see fri there. Instant approval so I will be getting my new card soon.

Congrats!!! Welcome to the game :) Next stop, free travel :D

(Or apparently in my slightly sadder case...free dishwasher...LOL)

Also I recommend some nice things in the mountains. There a drive through zoo that’s cute and the natural bridge. Both shouldn’t be too far from Richmond. Plus side it’s usually cooler here. August is yucky but kids start back to school then around here so that might be a bonus.

Williamsburg is a great area. My daughter just went there with her school and had a lot of fun.

So the one year that I actually get my tax refund direct deposited like I asked (I pick that option every year, but ALWAYS get a check in the mail instead) is the year I will end up amending due to credit card referrals and having to pay in again.

So I'm at 4/24. Will be at 3/24 in March. I need to get a SW personal card to get CP for 2019 and 2020 (yay new nonstops from RIC). I also want to pick up an Amex Platinum before May so I can get DS TSA precheck. I am putting new windows in my downstairs this spring ($7,500 or so) and the company offers a 10% discount if I pay cash/check. Can someone help me think through whether or not it may make sense to pay the extra 10% and put it on a card. My instinct is not to.

I'm so excited for these new nonstops! Even with it only being Saturdays, I told DH maybe we could take a couple days next spring to go down to Star Wars Land during the week and get a nonstop home that Saturday and not face the crowds.

PNC bank advice..... set up two new accts in my name- already see the 2k on each posted on the CIP (yay! MSR done!) ....question- how soon can I use that bank acct to pay off my cc bill? or is there a different method, like transferring to a different acct and then paying off? (i know I have to leave a certain amount in for 180 days) just pinning down if I'm now allowed to pay the cc bill straight from there or more circumspect

10% off would be $750 in hand. See what you value the particular SUB compared to that. If it's not for a SUB, I'd take the $750.

Congrats! Which sapphire did you get the CSR or the CSP?

For the MCGCs from Staples I now have them activated but when I try to register on prepaidgiftbalance I keep getting an error. Is there a wait to register them? It seemed like it should be doable since register was what came up on the screen saying they were successfully activated. Should a long process.

Congrats on the instant approval party:

@Albort That's funny, I just tried to buy a green Serve at DG yesterday for the $15 promo offer and for some reason the register wouldn't ring up the card at all or the cashier didn't know what the heck he was doing. He even said I could take it over to Kroger's to get it activated (?) so now I have a blank Serve card. I might just get it online. Are you using the green one and zeroing out the balance before statement close? ETA: I did Bluebird, Serve and Redbird in the past but stopped once Redbird died.
