I have a Precheck question.

MIL and Aunt ran into snowstorm flight troubles back in 2015, when they were trying to get to Cali for our engagement. Their original flight was cancelled, and they ended up getting another one via phone with SW from home (they didn't even leave for the airport before they cancelled the original). So they rushed off to the airport and at the counter the agent put Precheck on their boarding passes.

Each time they've traveled since then, Summer 2016, Fall 2017, Spring 2018, they've gotten precheck - including FIL. He didn't go on that 2015 trip, but the three of them are always on one reservation and MIL is the lead person.

We can't convince them to use their GE credits they have, and it just has me wondering, how long will this magical precheck benefit last for them? Has anyone had this happen or know of someone with a situation like this? They are kind of determined that now they just magically get it forever...

Where in PR were you? We were in San Juan last week - it was our first time there but we loved it & definitely want to go back!

We were in Condado. We have been many times to PR as my wife's grandmother lives there. Love spending time wandering around Old San Juan, paddleboarding/kayaking on the lagoon, taking a hike in the rainforest etc.

If you go back - consider staying at the Hilton in Ponce. This makes it easy to check out the south and west of the island. Also, best ziplining i have ever done was at ToroVerde in the middle of the island. There really is lots to do on PR and most people only experience Old San Juan or the rainforest on a cruise ship tour.

I wouldn't either, LOL. I think I'll be using mine mostly on Grubhub. We don't order in food very often, but I could see doing it once a month. Disappointing about Shake Shack in Palo Alto though. It's not super convenient, but we go to that mall often enough to make it work. I hope they had more restaurants soon, too.

Guess I won't rush over to that Shake Shack next time we are in Palo Alto visiting my MIL!

I'll likely end up trying it out again and will post if it works. I find myself in that area a few times a month at minimum, but there are so many better places to eat there that I may not want to go back. ;)

I found myself on a last-minute flight on American yesterday, and I got an in-flight offer for a Barclays personal Aviator with a 60k bonus after one purchase. Even though I don't intend to jump on the grAAvy train, I'm actually tempted to use this offer since I've found myself booking on American more than I thought I would from BOI. 60k after one purchase seems like a pretty good deal! I have a flyer with a code to be able to use the in-flight offer after-the-fact. I have two cards falling off my 5/24 in April, so applying for this personal would only set me back about 2 weeks from my next Chase app.

I also had some unexpected pixie dust from American. I needed to get to Miami at the last minute to meet my mother and father who had been hospitalized in Havana after coming down with pneumonia on a cruise and was moved to Ft. Lauderdale by air ambulance yesterday. It was clear my mother was at her breaking point and needed some help and support. When I booked Friday night, there was literally one available coach seat available on each flight (I had to fly through Phoenix) which of course was a random middle seat. But when I went to check in yesterday morning, I was asked to choose a seat in First Class for my flight to Phoenix, and then was able to select an aisle exit row seat for my flight from Phoenix to Miami. No charge or miles deducted from my AA account. Both flights were oversold, so I think I just lucked out and got bumped up on both flights. It certainly made a stressful situation a little better. My dad is critical but stable and showing some improvement, so we are cautiously optimistic about his recovery. Very scary to see your 82-year old father sedated and on a ventilator, but hoping for the best.

Wow - that's crazy. I hope your dad recovers quickly! Nice news about AA. We've never flown them but it looks like we have some flights in the near future.

So sorry your going through this ...prayers for your Dad

Oh wow, :grouphug: and :tinker:for your family. Glad you're able to be there for them.

On the CC side, I'd take it. It's a nice return, shouldn't derail your other plans, and as you know, you never know when you need the miles.

Awesome! Did you rent a car?
We did. The highway driving was fairly easy; driving/parking in Old San Juan is a nightmare - we made that mistake once and then used Uber the second time.

Yeah, I definitely want to see different parts of the island next time. Besides the rainforest, we drove out to Arecibo to go to Cueva Ventana. Even along the highway the scenery was beautiful. Several people recommend Vieques as well.

Wow - they must really have a lot of faith in your business with that $2,500 credit limit!! LOL! CONGRATS :)

Right! I’d be insulted if I wasn’t so happy lol!!

LOL $2500?! They only gave me a $1000!! I felt like they were going to enclose a letter like "your business sounds like it's going to fail" :rotfl2:

Hope your dad continues to improve! Something about seeing someone on a ventilator is particularly scary. Keep us updated.

Whhaatttt???? That needs to be shut down for sure.

Not every case is the same. In a DVC room you can add your friends to your room up to the number allowed in the room, a la @calypso726 and her 2 friends and there is no extra person charges. No one has to sleep in that room if they don't wish to.

I'm pretty sure that can be done with a regular room as well or a campsite (which allows up to 10 people) but they would be subject to the extra person charge. I'm not a proponent of the throwaway room, but I don't see a problem with a paid reservation for the number of people (occupancy) allowed to be in the room.

Then adding them to your mde only makes sense so that you can enjoy their company.

I would think Disney is trying to knock out the individuals who book a room to get the advantage and then cancel - this also worked for ADR's. I agree with curtailing that, as Disney makes the rules and should be able to take action to prevent abuse.

So I probably did this wrong but I called Chase about trying to not pay the AF on P2’s SW Plus. I said we were trying to cut back on some expenses and didn’t want to pay the fee. When he said he couldn’t do anything about it I said we might consider cancelling the card. He didn’t seem phased and was happy to help me cancel. I don’t mind calling again but would love some advice / talking points (or script lol). I’ve gotten used to applying for cards, now I just need to figure out how and when to cancel, PC and BS my way out of paying AFs.

Still waiting on another Staples fee-free VGC deal... I was hoping to use up the offer on my Hilton biz soon. I think I may go ahead and pick up a VGC at Kroger this coming weekend with the 4x fuel points deal. We're going to be driving A TON in March with DH going to several out of state horse shows, so the fuel points will probably be appreciated. I'm think I can use my WoH card and knock down that MSR some more. I'm good to get a $500 card for fuel points right?

This won't work since it's a Southwest card and no one else has those, but I usually go with the tried and true "I see X company is offering this product instead so I may just switch to them." I find that usually works best. You could maybe try something along the lines of "Amex seems to be offering some good travel cards that would suit me better" and see if you get anything from that.

Adding public well wishes to the private ones. Such a shock and we will be thinking about you guys and hoping his path to recovery is smooth and fast. So scary though. You were in some need of pixie dust--so glad that the American Airlines stars aligned for you. Hugs to you all.

I actually just got rid of my Citibank AA card today after the annual fee posted. I've had it for two years, and I just never use it. I had a hard time using the bonus points for the flights I wanted to London after we struck our on our business class upgrades to Patagonia. They had plenty of flights available to London, but they were all with ridiculous layovers and connections (or on not so great planes). The guy didn't try to talk me out of it this year when I explained why. I'm guessing he had heard it before, LOL.
