Aka---next Friday! Whoo hoo! Only six days and we're all ready to do a congrats dance:)

Hmm. I'm still thinking they'll likely say no, but I appreciate the support! :goodvibes

View from the Wing is posting about Marriott asking for cash deposits on point award bookings, and high deposits at that. It's not seen unless you read the fine print.

Can I just say yuck? :sad2:

In CC news, I'm thinking about being brave (finally) and applying for a CIP. I don't have any biz cards at all, and I'm nervous about it all. But I guess a denial isn't really that big of a deal, right? Worth the risk? If anyone has words of advice I'd love to read them. The AA FOMO is real, but I think URs would serve us better at the moment...
Probably late to the party....it is scary going for your first business card...but the URs are worth it..then it gets addicting

@AmyAnne I am sorry your DVC contract was takenn and I understand being uncertain about next steps. All I can say is after my last trip even though it is so much money I am really happy to have bought in and doing the points direct and then some resale was perfect. Direct is more money but the benefits of putting it on credit cards are nice. If you did that you could try it out and see if it would work for you...maybe something to consider.

@striker1064 good job on the run. I feel the same way about doing the Star Wars in April. Running the best I can in 20 degree weather dodging ice is not exactly the path to effective training in Florida. Oh well.

@mmmears I would just make sure your credit levels are super low. I had to talk to someone on getting my CIP and the phone call pretty much scarred me to the extent that I still have not gone for another Chase business. In hindsight the conversation maybe could have been avoided if I had cut the levels way down ahead of time (with at least a statement cycle notice). It has been a year but I am now waiting until April and then will finally just do it I think and try for the CIU.

And my random observation for tonight if anyone cares Trader Joe’s beer bread is way yummy. (Buy a box while they still have it as it is seasonal). It is especially good and makes you happy when cut on your WDW AP Food and Wine strangely small wooden cutting board. :)

Just booked RPH Club Level for 2 nights and Cabana Bay for our final night using URs during our June visit. I figured if reasonable AP rates come out, I can always cancel and book with real $ and use my Arrival + to erase the charge. I still have 6 nights to figure out what we are doing. We want to do a beach for a couple of nights but can’t decide where. We were spoiled with our SandPearl resort at Clearwater Beach stay the last time we did in the beach in FL. I have a ton of Marriott points but can’t decide how to use them.

Thank you so much for the advice. How low is low enough? And is it only my Chase cards that matter? My one Chase card is something like 1/8 of our total income, but of course way high compared to my projected Biz income. Help! I don't want to be scarred for life. :)

I went for it right away lol. I figured why not?

OK, I am going to list my credit for the last 24 mos. but before a little about my dh and I financials.

Our combined income is $290K, we are both government workers, we have no mortgage or debt, our home is worth $750K and we have approx. $500K in savings. We will also both have very comfortable pensions when we retire.

I have 5 credit cards taken out within the last 24 months, 1 was a AU that my husband signed me on for a Chase credit card that the woman in the bank talked him into after I told him to cancel it. I called Chase 3 days ago and said I wanted to be taken off as an AU even though the card is cancelled. So theoretically, I only have 4/24 right now. They are a Barclays JetBlue, opened 4/2018, Capitol One 4/2017, Chase Disney 9/2018, another Chase Disney 7/2018. I opened one chase Disney with a $200 cash bonus and then they sent me another pre-approved Disney CC for $200 gift card and another $50 gift card, so I signed up with my daughter.

Right now, I only have 3 open credit cards (Barclays JetBlue, Capitol One, and Disney CC), I closed all the others I had. Don't know if that was a mistake. TBH, when I get a new credit card, I use the bonus points and buy restaurant gift cards. We like to travel and I like the restaurant cards because we like to go to nice restaurants without paying a lot. I have around 90K JetBlue points which I will most likely use when we take flights out west in August (checking JetBlue website daily). My credit score is 797/810. My husbands credit is 813/820. He only has 4/24 but I know he recently opened a Lowe's Business cc. Before I started reading about credit cards on this thread I was ignorant about them but I am learning a lot. I did get rejected by a Barclays 70K credit card a few weeks ago, then saying I have too many credit cards, that's when I closed a few.

I never kept track of my credit but am starting to now and have written everything down. The one thing I find with credit karma is that it is a bit behind. A friend pays $10 a month for a service and it's much more updated. I am wondering if I should do this.

Still wondering if I should apply for Marriott Bonvoy with 100K points. I could probably charge approx. $1,700 a month easily, just have to start charging things that we have paid for out of our checking accounts. Thank you all for your advice. Love learning about saving money and getting FREE money.

@mmmears it won’t pick up the quote but it sounds like you should be fine on your credit limits. They just look at Chase. My problem was that I had a bunch of personal cards that I had not reduced the credit levels on. Another option is you could just not answer the phone when they call if you really don’t want to talk...or be prepared to explain. I was just dumb and completely caught off guard. DH has a legitimate business and it was his referral to my CIP. Mine definitely is a “business.” Babbling was involved. But they still approved me and with a $5000 credit limit, and this was last April so it is possible they might not even bother and it was my bad luck.

Thanks. It's good info for me to have so I can prepare. I could definitely see me babbling if a phone call is involved.

Also, I should of mentioned this. WE NEVER pay interest charges on credit cards, we pay off our cc monthly. We also, rarely pay AF, I call after the first year and they give me another year or two for free. I had my husband as an AU on one of Disney Chase CC that I cancelled him off of a few days ago and I was on one of his Chase cc, which I cancelled myself off a few days ago. I believe we are both now 4/24. I will be 3/24 come this April, 2019.

So to summarize:
  • 04/17 - CAP1 (unnamed card)
  • 04/18 - BARCLAYS jetblue
  • 07/18 - CHASE Disney (Rewards?)
  • 09/18 - CHASE Disney (Premier?)
  • XX/XX - CHASE (unnamed AU card)
And you are technically 5/24 until you get the AU resolved (which you need to see @Lain’s comment on that because just “cancelling” with the issuer won’t resolve it).

I’m confused by the “signed up with my daughter” comment on the Disney card...are you an AU on her card? Is she an AU on your card? Did you both sign up for a card? If you personally signed up for 2 Disney cards in a 3 month span I assume one was the rewards and one was the Premier. Can you provide some clarity there?

Before we give any more advice...are you interested in small business cards? Do you have a side hustle (sell on eBay, teach piano, tutoring, sell cookies, consulting, mow lawns, etc.) or any other activity that would qualify you for a business card? Some of the most lucrative offers are on business cards AND they don’t hit your personal credit report so they don’t affect your 5/24 status.

Also - would you be interested in joining our private Reddit group? You could potentially support another DISer when you apply for certain cards. If so just let me know your reddit name or signup at reddit.com - thanks, hope this helps!

Nice! Which cruise line?
