Since I am fairly new to the game, I usually lurk here and learn as much as I can, and ask a few questions here and there. I am just venting this time. This is not churning related but still cc related. I applied and received a CIP last 11/18. I've had fraudulent charges on it last December and had to get a new cc number/card sent to me. I applied for and received a CIU last 1/2019 and I've had fraudulent charges on it a few weeks later and received a new card the last week of 1/19. Then today, I had fraudulent charges on the CIU again and will be receiving a new cc soon. This is 3 replacement cards in 3 months due to fraudulent charges, which is a record for me! The last time I had fraudulent charges on a card was 2-3 years ago. Man, do I have a target on my back?

I also pay for credit monitoring and received a notice that my info was on the dark web. I don't even know what that means. Anyway, I just finished putting a credit freeze on all 3 credit bureaus.

Ok...done venting....thanks for letting me release some steam here!
That is crazy! Meanwhile, I've opened 43 cards opened and only had fraud on 1 of them that I can recall. You really did get super unlucky there somehow. At least you haven't let it dissuade you from churning! They likely are not related AT ALL and I've seen some people exit the game thinking it put them at risk (and obviously they leaving thousands of $$ in rewards on the table).

Chase asked me to DM them to help solve my problem after my last tweet

DM them a very specific request. Grand Floridian, 3 nights, Oct 10-14, water view LOL!! And be all like “Thank you so much for offering to help. This is great!” Haha

@amalone1013 - I legit would love it if you did this! Post a screenshot of the response - it would be epic to see them be all like..."ummm what...wait?"

How aggravating....Maybe look and see if there anyplace you can think of that you’ve used the cards where they may have been compromised....my son lives in Orlando and goes through this a lot unfortunately....gas stations and restaurants are big
Also remember to unfreeze your credit prior to applying for a new card

I've started to do this since earlier this month. I don't use the card at restaurants since I use the CSR there. I only use the card where I can still see the cc. Whenever I use the card at the gas station or grocery store, I check the area where you insert the card, look around me for people that are too close/suspicious etc. Maybe, I am the one that looks suspicious to other people, lol. Thanks for the advise though.

Ok - now it's degraded into straight-up lies...https://twitter.com/ChaseSupport/status/1098031984947941377

Your points are still worth their same value when redeemed for travel, statement credits, and cash deposits. Since your points never expire as long as the account is open and in good standing, you may wish to redeem them as a statement credit to help pay for your trip. ^CH
Ummmm huh???? I'll gladly take that 1.5cpp cash-out any minute now Chase!!! UGH! :badpc::badpc::badpc::badpc:

Yea..just No not worth the same as booking hotels with a CSR....have you responded

We're due for the winter storm tonight too. 2-4 snow plus a glaze of ice. I don't do ice so I've asked DH to take me to work. He's sniffling around meaning he's getting a cold... and whatever it was I had last week. Tomorrow is going to be a mess. :sad2:

Tomorrow puts us at exactly 1 month until spring. Hang in there guys, we'll get there. And I'll keep dreaming of Disney World in the meantime.

Our schools and offices are already closed for tomorrow.
Yep, our county notified us at 8 pm that the schools will be closed tomorrow and we just received notification that my federal agency is closed tomorrow. Not that it matters since that just means we are required to telework tomorrow. Now if they could just give me that option every day.

OK, thanks to everyone who told me to go onto Credit Karma. I did my husbands credit report. He had a 819 and 820. He has only opened 4 accounts in 24 months. I really wanted to get the Barclays 70,000 bonus CC. Even on creditkarma, it said his chances were "poor" for getting approved??? Who the heck are they looking for to get that credit card? They rejected me (I have 797 and 813 credit score). I am looking for a good card with high bonus points. Just wondering what they are looking for if not someone with a high score? Is the chances of getting approved for each card pretty accurate on CreditKarma? I really like that website. Thanks for suggestion.

Another question. In the past, I received a cash bonus for opening a checking account and saving account at Capitol One. I know the money that went into my accounts from the bonus are taxed. When you open an account and they give you bonus points (let's say 50K points that you can get gift cards), I don't believe that the gift cards are taxed? Am I correct? I rather get bonus points and gift cards then be taxed by a cash bonus. Can someone explain if I am correct? TY

You get taxed via 1099 for bank bonuses and referral bonuses (because you are getting cash).
You do not receive a 1099 for signup bonuses that you can either use for travel, cash out against a statement charge, gift cards, etc.

I’ll field this one - if you open a bank account (checking, savings, money market) and receive something of value (be it points, gift cards or cash) you should expect a 1099.

If you open a Credit Card Account you DO NOT need to worry about getting taxed regardless of cash, gift cards or points being awarded. Credit Card sign up bonuses and ongoing rewards are treated as a rebate on your purchases and thus are not taxed. It would be a huge and historical shift if that changed.

I haven’t followed your comments throughout (I apologize). But if I was at 4/24 there’s no way I’d make a Barclays card my number 5 :upsidedowlol.

Ugh, I booked a tour with an AP discount this am, (just under $100) and I figured I would just use my cash back card since I have a negative balance there with my warranty repair through Citi. Well, once it went pending I see it coded as "WDW Room Only." Womp Womp. I could have earned triple points and had it count towards my CIP MSR. Fail. I mean its only like $4.50 worth of UR and I am making good progress on the CIP, but I am a little annoyed. At least I know how tours will code in the future.

I just booked a tour Sunday and it is coded as room only too. Still pending so could change. I think this is a recent change.

Which tour? I just signed up for the undiscovered Epcot on our April trip without the girls. I’d never heard of it really and saw the recent review. It sounds awesome and now I am super excited. Plus AP discount so score!
