We weren't charged the AF *YET* on the amex biz. I cancelled my dh's but I'm pretty sure the AF was only $95. I was gonna keep mine for the $95 AF. How do you know if you will be charged $95 or $125?

Can I take the 35k night FN cert and still cancel and get the AF refunded?
Not sure what I am going to do but curious about this?
unlikely as u have 30 days to cancel to have your AF refunded... the 35k night usually kicks in 6 weeks after ur AF gets posted.

Depends if you’re asking about the Chase Marriott Biz or the Amex SPG Biz.

If Chase, then yes. You can take the 35k FN and cancel for a refund of the AF. That’s because Chase posts the FN cert promptly on the account anniversary, but typically charges the AF on the 1st day of the 13th month, and you have 30 days from when the annual fee posts to cancel for a full refund.

If Amex, no. That’s because Amex gives you 30 days from the closing date of the statement on which the fee appears to cancel a card for a full refund. Amex says it’ll deposit a FN cert to your Marriott account within 8-12 weeks of your card anniversary, but by the time the AF posts (typically on or a day before the statement close date) you’re still looking at 6-8 weeks until the FN cert is deposited to your account, which is longer than the 30 days that you have to cancel for a refund.

Thanks Lain! I knew the Amex FN cert posts too late to get the night and cancel the card. It was the Chase Marriott biz I was asking about. I feel (kinda) bad taking the free night and cancelling the card but I just don’t have a great use for these cards or free nights.

I’d find somewhere to redeem it before peak pricing kicks in 9/14.
If you reserve with points before peak pricing kicks in, can you then apply the certificate once you get it after peak pricing has kicked in?

I have done this in the past with chase Marriott.

Ugh. P2’s CIP #2 is now saying 7-10 business days. Should I have him call in to see if they need credit moved around? He has $5K on an old Chase Ink Plus that can be closed and a $10K line on a Hyatt card that could be lowered to $5K. I did proactively lower his limits several months ago. Why is it always P2!!

I discovered Tim Tracker when I needed something to watch on youtube while indoor walking or cycling lol.... very entertaining while I'm doing boring indoor exercise(which won't happen again until it's too nasty outdoors to exercise)

Just caught up - did a quick skim of all the posts today. Didn’t want to fall too far behind! Had a great day at Cedar Point (this was a quick trip with my parents and I). Park was much busier than last year’s Labor Day trip but with Fast Lane it was a great day with minimal waits. If you live near Cedar Point - I always highly recommend it. You can even stay “on-site” at Breakers and it’s a super nice resort. (It honestly reminds me of Beach Club a little bit). I could see spending a bunch of days here sometime in the future. I also believe the resort and park tickets are on the UR portal.

The staff there is great! So much better than our local park (Kennywood) in Pittsburgh.
I remember going there once in May or early June (it's been probably 22 years or so) and it was love bug season and they were just everywhere. It was so gross. We had friends in the area and they said the bugs would get so thick they would have to plough the streets. That memory prevents us from returning no matter how great the roller coasters are.

Have you put any spend on your CIP2 since spend was met? We are on track with CIP’s; I’m up to apply for my CIP3 now too but have been worrying there is no spend on it. I really don’t want to talk to Chase about my business if I don’t have too.

So.... any timeline involved if I want to PC P2's CIP#1 to a CIC or CIU? He'll have to call in to do this, right? I'm thinking I can make good use of the office supply bonus points (hello gc)

You are free to PC it now. And, yes, he'll need to call. I would personally do the CIC for the office supply bonus as you pointed out. And Staples has fee free VGCs this week so if he does it today you can start purchasing them almost immediately.

I have a co-worker that asked me to give her some advice on credit cards to increase travel. I was working on typing up a detailed list of Chase cards plus a strategy for her to follow. I am pretty sure I told her to wait until I sent her the information before she applied for anything, but while I was still working on this, she went ahead and applied for both a Barclay's AA card and a Chase Marriott card. After she told me this, I explained a bit as to why it would have been better to wait and why targeting Chase UR cards first would be the best strategy.

She got a denial letter from Barclay and it stated that she already has or had the maximum allowable number of this product with them. She has never had nor applied for a Barclay card before. I haven't dipped my toes into Barclay at all, so I am not sure how to advise her. Besides the hard inquiry on her report, this shouldn't have much of a negative effect, right? It seems that this is actually a positive since it frees up one of those 5/24 slots that I thought she had thrown away.

Also, Chase sent her husband an AU card. I had mentioned to her that she should not include him on any of the cards as an AU because it is best to do this 2 player. She said that she didn't think that she included him. Should I advise her to call and have them remove him as an AU and then also ask that it be removed from his credit report? I remember doing this myself to have my DH removed, but this was a while ago, so not sure if this is still a viable option through Chase?
