We rent a house that's walk-able to the ocean, there's a resort at the end of the island but that's not really our thing. There's also Tween Waters Inn (hotel/resort complex).

Also - I could wax poetically about how amazing that trip is for us each year!

Thanks...looks like a nice place to relax...and would be good once my daughter has kids too

Once we cross the Sanibel causeway...it's island life for us! No hurries, no stop lights, no stress...just aahhhhmazing! People find it somewhat remarkable that I can both enjoy the craziness of a Disney vacation loaded with activity and the do-nothing pace of a Captiva Beach trip. They are about as opposite as could be and I love them both tremendously!

Woohoo! Dh is going to visit his brother in Germany in August, so I said, Hey, I'm going to do a long weekend in Disney. Have AP, DVC Points (well borrowing 2019 :-) ) and miles for flights, so why not?!?! I was able to get 3 of the 4 nights at BWV and have been deciding if I should keep stalking that final night (in the middle of the trip) or maybe book BLT so I know I am covered for the whole time. I have literally been hitting refresh on the search page all day, every day, and just now the 1 night I needed came up!!!!

So glad you got your nights at BWV...we love it there so easy walking to 2 parks....and I’ve done the same staking for a last minute room...it’s amazing how the availability changes

It's my home, and I cry every time I walk in the lobby, so I really didn't want to have to go somewhere else. My last solo trip I stayed at the Poly because I couldn't get into BWV. It's gorgeous, but it's not home. I tortured myself by walking over there from DHS one afternoon. Made me sad :-(

DISchurners support thread refresh announcement
It is that time once again...the support threads on DISchurners need to be refreshed (this occurs every 6 months).

The easiest way to do this is:
1) Go to your OLD comment in the OLD thread
2) Click EDIT
3) COPY the entire comment text in the edit box
4) PASTE the comment text as a NEW comment in the NEW thread
5) CHECK all links to make sure they are active and working
You do NOT need to delete your old comment when done, you can just leave it in that thread.

This process will help you not have to re-do all your formatting. Side note: It is best to access DISchurners in old reddit.

I added a comment in each thread that 1099s may be issued for the value of any points as a warning.

I will post reminders for this over the next week or so and will then remove the old threads with only the new threads remaining.

Awesome! A tiny, tiny quibble. Why do you count the travel credits as savings? I think of them covering the AF.
Obviously not SFF, but thought I'd chime in with how I handle the AFs, at least currently... I also use YNAB, so this is how I account for everything with that.

I have a generic travel fund. All money budgeted for travel and extra money (swagbucks, ebay selling, cashback portals) goes into the travel fund, and AFs are paid out of there. So they are still in the overall travel budget.

Then each trip has it's own line in YNAB, and I keep a spreadsheet with a tab for each trip to track details. If I use a free night cert or CSR credit on a trip... I apply it towards the trip budget itself so it may be $0 on that certain trip, but the AF was still accounted for in that generic travel fund. Then as I pay cash for trip things, like either tickets I can't use points for, or when we come back and the cash OOP dining is added in, in YNAB I take money from the travel fund to pay for these things.

It honestly sounds way more complicated than it is, but you do probably have to enjoy making a trip budget spreadsheet for each trip :D

DW and DD have been trying to get me to book a trip to Hawaii for the last decade. It has just never been a place I am that bothered about - and seems an awful long trip from the east coast. Most folks I talk to rave about it as though it is some magical, mystical beach heaven but when I look at the places I can go to for the money and time it takes to get to Hawaii - just seems to be lots of better options in the world.

^^^ exactly how I feel about it. I can be in the Caribbean in a few hours. I don’t get it.

We love it as well...It’s one of our home resorts too...love the boardwalk view...but usually stay standard to save points

@amalone1013 since you brought up ynab....I am on month 2 of my conversion from ynab 4 to new ynab.
Love the auto import!
However...I can’t roll a category balance. In ynab 4 I would roll the balance of dh’s reimbursable work expense and apply the checks as they came in. Can’t do that anymore it seems. So for Jan I just paid them from our personal funds to clear out the month.
Any suggestions how to handle this?

Also - I should mention that reddit flags many of these links as spam. Most new comments get "auto-removed" but I will be monitoring the threads diligently to approve all new comments ASAP. @Albort and @Lain can also keep an eye on this as DISchurner mods :)

(this is also why I waited until I was back from WDW to refresh them ;))

That is a problem I have too. I never used 4 because right as I was about to sign up, they switched to the new version. But I haven't figured that out, because DH also sometimes has reimbursable expenses and gets paid back on the 10th of the following month. Currently I have a line for expenses so it will go negative, I use $$ from our slush to clear it out, then when it's paid back the next month it flows into the expenses line and I move the cash back to slush fund. I would love to be able to figure this out, but I haven't tried super hard since it happens maybe 4 times a year. Might be more this year as it looks like he'll travel more.

ETA: I posted your post on the Debt Dumper thread. Lots of YNAB users there. Maybe someone will know!

A coworker of mine goes to Sanibel/Captiva every year. He actually got engaged and married there. They always rent a house too. Maybe we'll make it there one of these days. Last year and this year we went/are going to Disney's Vero Beach resort for two nights after Disney. Last year it was so great just to relax and unwind after the go go go of the parks.

My DH enjoys Hawaii because it's tropical but it's still the US. I think going out of the country makes him a little uneasy. Plus DH is Asian and with all of the Japanese tourists I think it makes him feel more comfortable, not to mention all of the Ramen shops! Oh, and the Hawaiian people are some of the nicest people in our experience! Of course I haven't been since our honeymoon 11 years ago! Hopefully 2020!

It's my primary home also, but I like me some VGF, Poly, BLT, AK - concierge - but I haven't seen that room since they started making you able to see availability on the whole months - I'm sure if they are there they are noticed and grabbed. I used to regularly stalk for them and put in wait lists and get 2-3 nights, enough to make me happy combined with a MK resort or my own BWV and BCV.

Yup, us too. But after 7 months, needless to say I was only able to snag Garden View, but that's fine.

Ok, you may not believe this, but after 19 years, I have never stayed in a garden view room. Either BW view or standard only.

On one occasion they tried to make me stay in an 'upgraded' room from my standard that I had booked, and it was actually a HC accessible, 2nd floor next to the elevator. But I had a need for a tub, which that room didn't have - otherwise I would have taken it as the location is pretty sweet.

Oh wait, keep forgetting about the birthday upgrade one year from my standard to the room above the art gallery. A few of those rooms are considered garden view even though you look at a bit of the boardwalk and look out over the lawn where they show movies and such. It had a huge balcony, as opposed to a few of those that have barely room for a chair.

Edit: I'm using the word upgrade but it isn't anything I asked for. I'm now a solid 'tennis court' girl and I believe they have a note to put me there as it's not a location most would want.
