About carryons. Liquids are a problem for my family: 3 curly haired girls, one of them with eczema. We can make do with travel sized hair care for a short trip, but a week requires a full size bottle of conditioner and therefore checked baggage.

We have done carryon only for WDW. Now that DS has his own carryon, we could probably make it work.

Yeah once kids are old enough to have their own carryon it's possible. We were doing carryons only before we had DD, then there were the years where we had to bring the carseat, diapers, food, toys, and a giant suitcase. As soon as she was school aged we were able to go back to carryons only. I have good friends with 7 yo twins and they travel the world (on a tight budget) whenever they have a school vacation, and they have been wheeling their own carryons since they were pretty small.

I feel like DHs size 13 shoes take up a bag by themselves

OH yes. DH's shoes aren't that large, but they are the main issue every trip. Last trip he wore his nice shoes (which are really just his work shoes with the bonus of being waterproof so great for travel) He only packed flip flops for the rainforest room and blue lagoon and a pair of waterproof Asics for touring, walking, the gym, etc. It's tough. My dinner shoes are tiny by comparison.

Ouch. :headache:

Tried applying for the SPG Personal for my wife this morning, and she's still getting the pop up.

Oh no. I'm really sorry this keeps happening. I am starting to suspect that they are using a system that is specifically designed to make sure nobody can be sure of the rules (like 5/24) to keep people in check. It would explain some of the randomness in this stuff. It worries me since there is no way we can post the kind of spend we do when we had to meet our MSRs since many of those charges were one-time things.

We currently go with one checked and 3 personal/carryons (DS’s is a hard sided roller) so 4 pieces. If we do carry on only, we would have 6 pieces (1 roller bag/1 personal item each). I see advantages to both. It saves time not getting bags from baggage claim, though we’ve had stuff taken at the plane we had to retrieve from baggage claim. When moving around though, ie using a shuttle, switching hotels, storing bags after checkout, etc I find it easier to have only 4 bags to keep track of.
For WDW in March, we arrive in MCO at 6:30 pm. Carryon only will allow us to get to resort and eat more quickly, since DS gets hangry quickly. For DCL, I’m on the fence. We arrive in Vancouver at 9:30 am, so even with baggage claim, will be at our hotel before lunchtime.

We typically get to MCO pretty late in the afternoon (or later) so not having to wait for the bags has let us get to our hotel quickly and have a nice dinner, etc. 6 bags isn't tough if you can either attach your personal item to your suitcase (like DH does) or wear it on your back (like DD does). I struggle more with this since I keep bringing along a bag that does neither just because I really like it.

I have to bring my own shampoo and body wash. I get itchy from the hotel stuff with scents and perfumes. DH has eczema and will often use the hotel stuff. Sometimes it makes his eczema flare up, sometimes it doesn’t. He’s willing to chance it. Lol

I've had similar issues lately, but instead of bringing body wash I've been bringing a mostly used (so small and thin) bar of the fragrance free / color free soap I have at home. It's not a liquid, which also makes things easier.

This is where GE or TSA pre-check come in handy. No shoe removal :)

Yes! DH in particular doesn't like that part and says that GE is worth it for this alone.

Yeah thanks to government shutdown, I’m still waiting on our appointments

Ugh. I have family members who are in the same situation, and they are leaving for Tahiti in a few weeks with 2 little kids. What a pain.

Having a GREAT day at DHS. I have a detailed play by play plan that has limited walking and rain time.

Toy story land was very chill this morning. 2x TSM, 2x Saucers and a FP on slink by 9:15. Then Sulley meet, Starbucks, Frozen show, Star Tours and now eating at SciFi. I’m really enjoying following a written touring plan that I developed a month ago. It’s a new strategy we’re trying for this trip :) It’s really allowing me to be “in the moment” vs worrying about what’s next :)

We love SciFi! So much fun to be there, plus I love how quiet it is in there, even with the movie playing, since all the kids are pretty quiet. I always have a written touring plan and love touring this way. No "what should we do now" discussions, etc. It makes it so much easier to relax and enjoy the trip. We didn't have one at DLP since we had no plans to visit until the day we went, and it was a not-very-ideal day there, wandering around, not knowing what to do next. Never again...

What we've done in this situation is to just bring multiple small bottles, and then shed them as we travel.

Does using Apple Pay or the self-checkout kiosks bypass ID checking?

Despite living in Apple’s and Google’s backyard, adoption of mobile wallets by big retailers is still rather limited, and a lot of cashiers around here still don’t “get” the technology and ask to see the actual card.

Ah! So if I'm trying to plan about 2 years into the future, it complicates things a little bit! I suppose we could do both. I could get a non Chase and DH could get CSP.

What does it do to a credit score to open a card and then close it 1-2 years later? Does it really make much of a difference? We never carry a balance on our cards and always pay our mortgage on time, so we both have pretty healthy scores, as I'm sure most people who are playing the rewards game do. I just always have wondered how someone maintains a good score while card hopping.
As long as you keep your longest line of credit open and you keep your cards paid off it doesn’t affect your credit longterm. Yes, it will take a small dip but should bounce back.

@Lain and @calypso726 I went ahead and applied for the Bus. Hilton AmEx (accumulating points for our Spring, 2020 trip to the Conrad Maldives) and was approved instantly. I then chatted with a rep who said to call CS and have the card expedited. Yay! I think another 48,000 points and I'll have enough for 4 nights + 1 night free :yay::yay:

Just caught up. Congratulations!

Called to get a replacement CSR to get contactless payment capability. I said “I see Sapphire Reserve is contactless now so I’d like to request a replacement.” This led to a few minutes of waiting while she “checked some things” to have the rep come back and say “sorry that feature is only available on our Freedom cards”. Finally my brain kicked in and I said “that’s fine, I need a replacement anyway as mine is scratched up” and boom replacement on the way. C’mon Chase I’m sick of knowing more about your cc’s than your customer service reps do...

was not going to post my experiences there since some of the responses to others seemed borderline rude...if someone didn’t agree with them...
This is so true of so many threads! Its so nice to have a group here that can bring differing views on multiple topics and no one is rude or disrespectful. Everyone is always grateful for the help/ideas!

That sounds like a wonderful morning and lunch! Some of my favorite things. Glad you got your Sulley meet in. I know how important that was! I am always a structured WDW planner. I have a google sheet with 30 minute intervals outlining the entire trip. I will stray from it or completely revamp if need be, but having that structure as an option is something I really need and value!

keep us posted, my CSR is pretty beat up. the contactless is quite fun to use. i have it on my Amex Rose gold card and its easy to tap than insert.
im hoping more gas stations get these so its easier to not get scammed by card readers.

Its always so hard to use these new technologies! I now cringe when there is a ChasePay promo because I know 9/10x the cashier will be confused that he/she has to total the transaction and then scan a QR code for payment. The first time I did it at ShopRite back in October the cashier thought I was completely making it up. There was a flyer at each check lane promoting ChasePay and she insisted on calling someone over. Fortunately the guy knew me as a regular and that ChasePay was real. Its always a gamble!

My ShopRites are getting better with ChasePay, thankfully! I really wish it could be used at the self-scan registers :-)

As far as the tickets go, yes , you'll have to wait to purchase now that there are expiration dates.

As far as your credit score goes, you may find that your score will go up! There are many factors that effect your score. One factor has to do with your debt compared to amount of available credit. This improves with new cards. Some of the cards you open you might decide to keep open or change to a no AF card. For example, you can downgrade your CSP or CSR to a Freedom product. You already have on CF...you could always have another or get a CFU. Closing the cards has a small effect on your average age of credit. I think its a great idea to have some no fee cards that you keep to age.

I had another thought too. If you aren't going to go for a bunch of Chase cards, maybe the bonus on the Disney card would be worth it. You get a $200 statement credit for $500 spend. In other words, buy $500 worth of Disney gift cards, get $200 free. There are links on Dischurners for that. Open one for yourself, then refer P2 from yours for an extra bonus. None of us use that card for regular spend as other points are more valuable.

Lol well here's one I've never seen before... I'm planning to pay off my student loan when I get my tax refund and my third paycheck of the month in March. I was trying to think up some ways to maximize this. I was thinking of maybe just using my CIU and then slowly paying down the balance during the 0% period while parking my money in Ally to collect some interest.

Turns out my student loan provider doesn't accept Visa!! Who doesn't accept Visa?! All they take is Mastercard, Discover, Diners Club, JCB, and China Union Pay. What the heck???

interesting... the only place i found like that is our county's register office. doesnt accept Visa either. Only place ive seen that.
funny how they accept China Union Pay though lol.

I have a question regarding the disney visa (either version). We are considering a sept trip to take advantage of free dining. IF I applied and was approved for either version, what are the requirements for the 0% for 6 months? Are you required to pay the full amount on the card at the time of booking? Or can you just put the normal deposit and pay the remainder at the normal time (30 days out or whenever it is)? 6 month 0% isn't really helpful for me if the clock starts now as I would still be paying it in full prior to the trip. Like a good introvert I've searched the googles and can't seem to get a straight answer.

Who’s your student loan provider?
