...is WAY too much being made out of the Oscars and the war? How are they going to handle it, tone it down, eliminate the red carpet, etc.. I respect the talents and hard work of the people in their industry, but I don't care whether or not they have the show, shorten the show, make anti-war speeches, or whatever.
If they really cared about showing respect for the troops, why don't they just wait till the war is over? Then they can wear what they want, and behave however they want.

Micca - I don't get it either, but I not real impressed when they talk about being afraid of how things will "look". What is the deal? Some people are going to be offended no matter what you do. So do what feels to be the right thing to you. (Assuming they have even the most basic morals, which I guess is kinda chancey in HW  )

I used to always watch to see the clothes, jewels hear Billy Crystal but now with all that crap their saying about the war and the high horse attitudes, I'd like to slap them all.

Our men and women are fighting for their freedom so they can express their snotty views.

Let them have their superficial party, parade all or little they want, I don't care anymore. I don't want to hear their opinions.

I'm sure I've just opened up a can of worms but that's the way I feel. The heck with them all.

denise,
I agree with you. I couldn't care less about their thoughts or the dresses and jewels. They are overpaid as it is. The priorities in this country are so screwed up.

I couldn't agree more strongly! Thank you for expressing this!

I totally agree. Do these stars really think that much of themselves that they need to call the Academy to ask if they can tone down their dresses? Give me a break. Our country is on the verge of war - who cares about the Academy Awards, or the dresses or the red carpet. If you ask me, it's a major improvement if Joan and Melissa Rivers are ousted anyway. I don't usually watch these awards shows, they bore me. And after all this melodrama the stars are creating over this - jeez - I don't think I'll ever watch it again.

A French officer presents Col. Jimmy Stewart with the Corps de Guerre with palm for valor in battle. At the time Stewart received this award, he was serving as the 2nd Air Division chief of staff for Headquarters 8th Air Force located at High Wycombe, England. Stewart retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1968 as a brigadier general. Stewart, 89, died July 2 from a blood clot in his lung.

They weren't always so self-absorbed.
