I returned from Vegas Sat morning (a fun-filled red-eye flight) and had a *GREAT* time!!! Fri night DW & I saw EFX (with Rick Springfield) at the MGM Grand. It was a good show, but one little detail struck me as odd. About halfway thru the show, Rick went into the crowd and selected one person to take back on stage. Has anyone seen the show? If so, I have a question about this "audience participation" portion and if it was set up or real. There were signals it could be either. In case it's set up, I'm not going into detail. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I will say it was just *toooooo* funny!!!! :p

If you're planning a Vegas trip, be sure to see the Mac King Comedy Magic show at Harrah's. He's kinda corny, but still funny!! :) He's also $80 cheaper than Sigfried & Roy! Besides, I've seen their show already. :) There are plenty of other shows to see and things to do that a week isn't always enough time. Although it is more than enough time to lose your bank account!! I only left enough money so they can put a couple letters on a "restrooms this way --->" sign. And as a true DIS fan, I rode the old WDW Mark IV monrail from Bally's to MGM. :) I'm sure a few people thought I was strange for having my pic taken in front of it, but that's too bad for them!! :p

Welcome back, sounds like you had a great time. I have been to Vegas for several years, I think I'd like to go again :)

Thanks for sharing. It makes me excited for my trip to Vegas next weekend. :)

Have a great trip!!! :D Are you staying on the Strip or downtown? You may already know this, but there are a few free shuttles/monorails between hotels, so you don't have to walk as far. Harrah's has a freebie to Rio & back. Barbary Coast has a free one to Gold Coast and the Orleans (the new Palms hotel is across from Gold Coast). There are monorail type shuttles from Bellagio to Monte Carlo and from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay. Mandalay Bay also runs one that stops at Luxor and Excalibur (it's a one way shuttle from MB). They're all in the back of each hotel, but they're nice to take. If you take any of them, they'll save you a *LOT* of walking!!! Then there are the free or cheap shows..... Have fun and don't let them take too much of your money!! ;)

Thanks nativetxn! I went to LV about 3 yrs ago & so much has changed since then. It's like WDW....if you don't go often enough, there's a bunch of new things to see. :D We saw a couple being filmed for something in the Paris hotel at the elevator to the Eifel Tower. It may have been for the Travel Channel's "Two for Las Vegas" program, but we couldn't find anyone to ask (the crew was not in a position for us to approach them).

I saw EFX when it first opened in 1995 with Michael Crawford as the lead. I always wanted to see it again. I really wanted to see David Cassidy (my teen idol) but by the time we went again Tommy Tune was in it and we didn't go.

Those shuttles and monorails are a life saver when the weather is hot!

I just got back on Thursday from Vegas, If you can see "0" at the Beliago. WOW what a show. Cirque du soleil is awesome, I still prefer La Nouba at Down town Disney. We stay at Ceasers the 3rd weekend in July each year at a conference....What a city.:D

We will be there in three weeks, staying at the Flamingo. I was debating on whether or not to see Mac King...I guess we will after reading your post. Harrah's has 2 for 1 coupons, I think. We have tickets to see Sinbad at Paris...other than that, no definite plans to see any shows. We went two years ago and saw Mystere...GREAT show! We got 2 for 1 coupons to see Rick Thomas at the Tropicana...probably will use them. I want to go to a comedy club one night. This trip, I plan on pool lounging as much as I can, but from what I've heard, it's hard to get a chair at the pool. Can you recommend any reasonable, good, normal, places to eat? We're not into the fancy buffets, or expensive restaurants. I plan on the Cheesecake Factory one day for lunch. I think there's an In and Out Burger place on the strip, that takes care of another day. We might hit the deli in Bally's one day. Going Downtown one night...need a place to eat there...any suggestions? Thanks!:D

When Rick goes out to grab his particapent it is a "plant". David Cassidy used the same premise in his show, but wow!! Had me hoping i could be "chosen". So what did you think of Sal...he does the opening for the show and sings some tunes with Rick as well. He use to date a friend of mine and you couldn't ask for a nicer young man........and EASY on the eyes. Whenever we go to see the show Sal always unzips just a little (okay alot!) lower just for us!! Man I could use a trip to Vegas right now.

We were there in April of 2001 and saw EFX too. Rick Springfield was the first concert I ever saw and I was thrilled to see him in EFX! My husband was teasing me the rest of the trip because Rick touched my hand twice! *laugh*

Anyway, we wondered the same thing about the audience member, and finally decided that it WAS a set-up! It was just waaaaaay too perfect. Still great fun though!

Oh, yeah. The audience participant in EFX is definitely a plant ala the goofy volunteer with the loud shirt in the Indiana Jones show at MGM. (Gee, hope I'm not spoiling a surprise for anyone here. ;)) But they're both so well done that the first time you see either show it's easy to be fooled.

I saw EFX in 1998 with David Cassidy. He was fantastic! At the time I thought the audience member was for real but since then I've heard too many people who have seen the show describe very similar experiences with the participant from the audience (even with the different lead actors) so I'm convinced it's a plant.

Thanks everyone!! I had a feeling it was a set-up based on a couple lines that were said, but they did it so well I just had to ask. :) We even asked the photo girl (they take your pic before the show) after the show if it was real or set up. Of course, she said it was real.

For those of you who haven't seen it, don't let this deter you. They do it so well that you really think it's real. And it's really funny! Just wait for the cel phone...... And all of the Rick fans out there, if you see the show, get seats in the middle towards the bottom half of the theater. Rick runs out into the crowd a couple times. :) And you can't miss Sal!! He is too funny!!!!!! Sal actually starts the show 30 minutes prior to curtain time.

snowwhitemom, I'm sort of interested in this show. I'm not big on Cirque, but the water thing looks interesting. That will be a show I see on a future trip. :) We stayed at Ceasars a few years ago. I love it there!! :)

Dopey Sharon, the Flamingo was my next choice for hotel (we stayed at Harrah's). It's really nice! You may be able to get comp tickets for Mac King from Harrah's. They give them to people staying there, but I imagine you could still get one (valid for 1 or 2 people). Only thing is there is a 1 drink minimum at $6.95 per drink. Mac is funny!! Just don't eat the fig newtons. ;)

Hmmm... restraunts..... There are plenty of chains to eat at as well as hotel restraunts. Most everywhere will be a little more expensive than you may be used to. The Imperial Palace has a $7 breakfast buffet. That was cheaper than Harrah's. Some of the hotel restraunts are about the same price or cheaper than their buffets. It just depends on the hotel. We ate at Cheesecake Factory in the Forum Shops one day. We had the pizza/salad combo (smaller pizza & a salad for DW & me). We could have shared the pizza and each had a salad. It was a lot of food!!! ESPN Grill at NY, NY was good, but a bit pricey. The booths have a TV in them, so I guess they're paying them off or something. Krispy Kreme donughts are all over. Downtown has a decent selection of restraunts, too. The Main Street Station buffet was good and they have tons of different food to choose from. It's a block or so off Fremont St (N of the Plaza Hotel), but it's a nice place. Great atmosphere. :) There's also a Tony Roma's on Fremont St as well. There's just so much to choose from it can be hard to decide.
