DH & I are planning our first UO trip 9/28 - 10/4 and HNN for that Thursday or Friday (10/2 or 10/3). Would you recommend the RIP tour our first time there, or just get the express pass and wing it?

At this point, we are only planning one night at HNN. I want to make the most of it and was afraid that even with express pass we will miss stuff because we won't know where we are going!

Thanks in advance for your help....we had to cancel our early May trip :sad1: that we were both sooo looking forward to and getting back into planning mode is helping ease the pain. I think our fall trip will be even better! And, rates are lower at RPR. :yay:

I don't know about the RIP tours, but we only went one night last year, and we missed a lot. We also had the express pass, and did stay and scream. I would suggest, if you can, more than one night. Maybe it was harder for us because it was our first time to Universal that day. This year I plan on about 3 nights.

One night should be OK...but there is a trick to it. I would recommend Express Passes for Thursday night...not only cheaper but should be less crowded than a weekend night. Also...VERY important...to get a head start on the houses, you must do Stay & Scream. If you're going to be in the park before closing, they will put you in a holding area...probably the Boneyard again. You will be able to do at least two houses before most of the crowd shows up...since you aren't waiting outside the gates to get in. The houses have a staggered opening schedule usually and last year I did Nightmare on Elm Street, Psychoscareapy and Friday the 13th before needing to use the Express pass.

If you have any questions, please feel free!

While we definitely agree with Metro's post we'd have to recommend the RIP tour - especially if you are only planning to go one night only. In most of the years we've gone, the express pass would certainly be enough to get you though each house once, however last year we found even the express lines could get quite lengthy. Prior to last year, with our express passes we never waited more than 5 minutes to get into a house, however last year it was not unusual to wait up to 30 minutes to get into a house using the express pass - this was on a non-peak night (Sun & Thurs).

While the RIP tour may cost a bit more, you are guaranteed access to all houses and shows, and if your budget allows it, it's definitely the way to go to be sure to see everything in one night.

We do the RIP tour every year, as well as a few nights using the Stay and Scream with our express passes.

Thank you all for such quick replies! DIS'er's are the best folks around!! :worship:

Since we had to cancel our upcoming May trip and now have several month's to save extra $$, I think I will take your advice, Cdn Friends of Pooh, and spring for the RIP tour. DH might get frustrated waiting in long lines and rushing around trying to get it all done, so it is worth the extra money to have an expert guide us through this first time!

I'm planning on doing the RIP tour this year for the first time. This will be my 5th consecutive HHN but I've never done any of the tours.

RIP is great if you only have one day and want to be sure to see all of the houses. We did it last year because we didn't realize that we could upgrade our Premier Pass freebies to Frequent Fear for only $10 and thought it would be our only visit. Had a blast and got done before the park closed. I know you can use Express after a regular VIP tour, so we asked at three of the houses. One said no and two let us do it so we had a little bonus.
