I'm looking for ideas for Halloween decorating..mainly the front yard. I dont want to scare the little kids but I do want something fun without costing alot of money. How do you decorate? I have to be careful as not to have the HOA police give me a citation.... ;)

What if you did a Disney Halloween or a Peanuts/Charlie Brown-The Great Pumpkin type of theme. The kids will be able to associate with the stories and characters and it will be alot of fun for them.
If you are creative, cut out wooden pieces and then paint them.
You can use christmas lights and decorated pumpkins and scarecrows around the yard.
I am ready for Halloween.

I just saw the cutest yard decoration...it was a pumpkin with Mickey Mouse....I think I will bid.

Halloween is my favorite holiday. Have you tried Lillian Vernon and Shindigz by Stumps, they have alot of different stuff. Happy haunting!

lok around for a spirit superstore,,, they are awesom me for neat halloween stuff:)

DD('s birthday is Nov 1 so we have had a number of Halloween birthday bashes for her. My favorite thing to make is tombstones with funny epithets.
I have used styrofoam pieces and foam cut outs. Lots of fun.

For one of the parties we hung doughnuts from the branches of our pecan tree. The girls had to try to eat a doughnut not using their hands. Got some hilarious pictures.

This made me think about the BIG black cat tunnel like blow up thing at Sam's Club. It was just so cool, my DH and I had to talk each other out of buying it, we were so tempted, but it cost $99 and it was huge. We figured if we bought it we would have way to many kids come just to walk through it and it would probably tick off the neighbors but we were sure tempted.

When we were kids we used to set up a Frankenstien on a bicycle that we made by stuffing newspapers in Dad's old clothes to make a dummy and a Frankenstien mask. We were always so proud of it and the little kids loved it.

One year we got glow in the dark spider web. You can stretch it and it sticks really well just about anywhere. Put a black light up where it will be.

Replace your porch light with a black light.

We got a big pot (the night of our party---it doenst last more than a few hours) and put water and dry ice in it. That was really cool.

We bought one of those witches that you put on your tree trunk and it looks like the witch ran smack into the tree. You can also put it on your door or a wall.

We hung pumpkin string lights.

Bats hanging from walkway celing.

I have an older white chest that I take outside and place fake skeletons in it. Sometimes my hubby will get all dressed up and will hide in it to scare the older trick or treaters.

We have an electric Halloween kettle that blows "smoke" and sounds like I am mixing a potion.

Some neighbors get styrofoam boards and use a drill and paint to look like headstones.

Some neighbors have used a table and placed things in bowls to let the kids feel creepy things like "brains," "guts," etc. all using food, of course.

One neighbor 'goes out' every year and makes his garage into a haunted house. He uses a voice synthesizer and places up a lot of lights, special effects, and decorates really well. The kids and adults love it.

Take small styrofoam balls and white napkins. Open up the napkin, place ball in the middle. Cover ball with napkin and wrap white or clear fishing line around it. Fluff out the rest of the napkin, take a sharpie, make eyes, nose and a mouth. Instant ghosts. Hang them up inside windows facing the front yard. You can also tie them onto a larger string to frame the window with them.

It's not hard to create something that moves when the door opens. Take a small hook, hang it above the door. Take the thing you want to hang, attach a long piece of string to the thing, loop it over the hook and attach to the door. When the door opens it should lower.

You can find large pumpkin trash bags, fill them with leaves or newspaper (depending on where you live). They are really cute in the front yard. If you have a spot you can even hang ghosts so they are floating right above the pumpkin.
