Will DisCon3 be held? Do you know any dates yet? I am not attending this year, but I will be at WDW from 11/30-12/7 and as I'm reading about all this, I'm sort of sad, that I'm not joining in. So, I want to make my plans for next year and be a part of what looks and sounds like LOADS of fun. Any hints for dates would be great!

Have a good time all and I'll have my eyes open for green ribbons!

Julie

Julie!!! You WILL be attending THIS year. DIS-Con is so much more than just the 'official' events. It is many folks from the DIS, coming together at a common time, the first week in December, and sharing in the fun and friendships of each other. This is both at the several official events planned, but also at the many 'unofficial' mini meets that are planned throughout the entire week. Check out this thread of Pat's--click here and this one from Ray--click here. These will give you LOTS of info.

I arrive on the 30th also and will be there past the 7th, sure do hope to meet you, Julie.

Well, I agree that DISCON is about much more than just the 'Official' events, but it's also much more than the 'Unofficial' meets too, even though there are a great many more of them.

I seem to recall that for some reason you didn't attend all the 'Official' events last year Dan, in particular the Illuminations Dessert Party which is a sad loss as it was just about the most magical part ('Official' or 'Unofficial') of the whole event!

Julie, I'm watching right there with you for when DISCON III might occur, even though I've not done DISCON II yet LOL, and I hope to meet you at one of the mini-meets as they are a lot of fun too :)

My take on DIS CON....

Lots has been said about "official" and "non-official" events, but it all comes down to this....THERE WOULD BE NOTHING IF THERE HAD NOT BEEN OFFICIAL EVENTS LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR.

The official events is what started all this, and the reason we got together again. So, though all the events are special, and all the events bring us together, let's just remember that it would not have happened without those official events.

The official events were very special to me especially Illuminations.

Julie, if you are going to be there 11/30-12/7 do come to as many mini-meets as possible! I will be at WDW from 12/1-12/8 and I won’t be official either. I did have every intention of being official until they announced when the cut off day was. I work in a not so stable place and I did not find out until just a few days ago that my job was secure enough for me to actually go on this trip. I couldn't afford to put down the deposit on the good chance I would never see that $150 again. I didn’t make up my mind that my trip was 100% set in stone until this past weekend. So there went my ability to be official. Anyway, I just wanted to say you aren’t going to be the only one down there then who won’t be official but do please come to the mini meets. I think Dan gave a couple of very good links to show you all that will be going on outside of the official events and I would love it if I could meet you at a few. They may not be official but they sure sound like a lot of fun to me… hope to see you there!

Elaine

I am "un" this year, because I found out way too late, but I have every intention of being "Official" next year, now that I have time to plan!

The official events sound wonderful, I hope that everyone enjoys them as much as I am planning on enjoying the newbie mini meets, etc. I am very jealous of the Illuminations party, I will be flying home while you are all listening to my favorite music and seeing those spectacular fireworks. Well, I will get to see them, but it won't be the same.

Less than a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yipee:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce:

mickeyfan1 there is nothing wrong with going unofficial. The reason I said anything is that people tend to think that there is one part of the convention that is better than another. There are some who even "encourage" people not to attend officially, their way of making a statement I am sure. What I am saying is that there are special things about both sides of the convention. There is nothing like the opening reception when you meet everyone together at one time, Illuminations is just incredible, and the farewell breakfast, well I used a box of tissues last year.

My fave mini meet was the thrill ride meet. I spent the day with some awesome people, and got to get to know them better. People I consider friends now. I loved Kimonos, and Jellyrolls and they are not to be missed.

That being said, this all started because of the official events. Even the mini meets are spin off of the official events. They were a way of conintuing the fun.

I hope we do get to see you, and that you get to go next year officially.

You see I knew someone else would ask this question :)

Just wanted to add that I would also really like to know if DISCon 3 is on the cards for next year as if it is near Xmas then I will plan to be out in WDW for all of it and then wait for Paul to come over and join me for Xmas and New Year at WDW.... as that would be really important to me for him to see what we have all seen over the festive period and to see it together is dead romantic :)

I'm rambling..............;)

If those of you who want to be official still do, we can take your registrations up until the 15th, that is when I have to have final numbers, so by all means, sign up, we would love to have. And wait until you see the food.......... :smooth:
CC

Hey that is awesome CC....Now people like Elaine and maybe even mickeyfan1 can join us officially...We would love to have them!!!

I can't wait to see the food!!!!

I am so glad that there is a chance that there will be a DisconIII.

I wouldn't make all the plans just to go to a bunch of mini-meets, though they should be fun, too. But, knowing that there are official events that the Dis is putting together makes it so much more tangible for me, and I look forward to enjoying some well put-together fun things to do.

I'm saving now for next year so my whole family can go. For now, I'll just have to enjoy it vicariously through all of you. :)

CC that's great news - I'm so glad that people who were previously unable to commit before the cut-off date now have a second chance attend :)

so...will there be a DisConIII or not?

Wagamama, I certainly can not speak for the organizers. I suppose all are focused on Discon 2 right now, its tough to look past that at this point :)

I am one of these people that take things one at a time.. so in saying that, my answer is that once we get through DisCon 2 and see how everything went this year, we will make an informed decision for next year... How does that sound?? :) :) or exactly what Patrick said.. teehee

in other words...enjoy today for you never know about tomorrow!!!!

Cathy, thanks for letting me know about the extention. While I hope it allows more who could not commit before the previous cut off date, I still won't be official. I did make that personal decision (and my friends knew how much I mulled over that decision) many months ago so I did not budget for it and I did not plan for it. I am sure you all don't care to hear my excuses for it but if I hadn't made so many plans already that would conflict with the official events I would probably consider it again. I do hope that maybe next year though will be right for me.

I really do hope though that this allows for others to join who couldn't before, I am sure you all will have a blast at the official events :sunny:

While I would love to register as official, I have to leave Friday the 6th :( because that's when I must relinquish my room back to the resort and the large siler bird will be taking me home. So I would miss the dessert party, farewell gala, etc, etc. I will just live it through the pictures which will, no doubt, be posted here throughout the year.

But I will try to make a lot of the informal meets, I know I will be at the newbie meet Wednesday am (if it's still on????) and Chef Mickey's dinner Tuesday night and MVMCP after, and will be hosting a small gathering at Spaceship Earth, and definately hold December vacation time for next year. Geez, do I ever take a breath???? Also, I am dying to try Boma's breakfast Friday morning for Tonga Toast and the whole AKL atmosphere, maybe someone will join me?

I am positive this year will be fabulous fun, I just wish it had worked out for me sooner.

M I C see you real soon.........

mickeyfan1 maybe next year!!! I hope I get to meet you. Elaine I am sorry I misunderstood. I thought you had made the decision not to go this last weekend, and it was the cut off date that made it impossible. I must have mis-read your post. It is a shame you will not be attending the official events...they really are special, maybe next year.

Sorry for any confusion. My decisions to go ahead and commit to this trip and to be official were made at two different times. I had to decide in the late summer that I couldn't be official and this weekend I finally knew that I would be able to make this trip in the first place. So if I confused I am sorry... it was a complex set of decisions for me.
