I know it'll be worth it in the end . . . .

My house is a mess:(

We're going through some renovations at the moment and my house is a mess. If Kim and Aggie could come and clean my house for me, I'd be very grateful.

It all started when I dropped the iron on the carpet last October - thanks to our insurance company our beautiful carpet in the lounge is due to be replaced. But wait, I thought, we want to decorate this room so what's the point of having the new carpet down before we do . . . . but in our house just decorating the room isn't as simple as it sounds because (with the exception of our new kitchen) every single wall and ceiling is thickly coated in ARTEX:rolleyes:  We have beams on walls and ceilings so trying to be a tad more adventurous colour wise has always been an issue, so we'd decided to do away with the artexting room by room, starting with the lounge and hall, stairway and landing.

I thought it sounded quite a simple job - ha ha, the plasterers fantastic, but it's taking a time just to do these rooms.

And then we decided to knock DD's downstairs bathroom and toilet into one . . . . that sort of started this week with DH and friend and their trusty sledgehammer. It gets really sorted this weekend so I'm moving out - I wish;)

I know it's all going to be worth it in the end. We're crammed into the dining room in the evening - got no SKY in there so missed Angel and CSI this week:p . There's furniture all over the place, but the one good thing is I've given up with the cleaning for the next couple of weeks until it's all finished:p DD Katie is quite happy because she's back in her old bedroom upstairs for the time being - she says it's like being on holiday!

The downstairs bathroom is being turned into a large shower room because all three of us try to get into the shower around the same time each morning and it's turning unpleasant now;)

I think the biggest problem has been trying to decide on the colour scheme. I think if I look at another colour chart I'm going to go barmy:scared1:

Then the conservatory and front door are being replaced in 10 weeks time, so I'm keeping a really low profile then:teeth:

In the meantime, I'm just taking cover:umbrella:. Thanks to coffee trips with friends I'm getting through it:crazy: :teeth:

Annie

I know what you are going through. In our last house we had ARTEX everywhere, and we tackled it all at once!!!

What a mess!!! Then we had the loft converted, and the kitchen done and the bathroom....sounding familiar.

I HATE the house being in a mess in a "builder's are in" way. It drives me mad.

We lived in one room for weeks and weeks. Horrible.

But as you say it looked fab once it was all done...then six months later we moved  Blame DW for that one.

Best of luck, and it'll soon be over.

Craig

Hey Flower ..... We'll just have to cram in more coffee meetings to get you out of the house more!

All sounds a bit of a nightmare but just think how fab it'll all look when Darryl finished his Demolition Dan impression!

Anytime you and Katie want to come over here to escape you're more than welcome! :)

Astrid, Bryn & Carys x

..... so it's all round to yours then Annie :teeth: ! (No need to hoover, we'll ignore the mess!)

I do sympathise though - these things always take longer than expected but the end result will be worth it!

We are at the discussion stage for redecorating too - can't wait to get it done. The colour decisions are tricky! Did you buy some Dulux tester pots? I know that once I start messing with those things, there's no turning back.

Just put the kettle on, put your feet up and try to ignore it all for a few minutes every day :teeth:

Hope it all goes smoothly (and quickly! ;) )

:grouphug:

Annie - It WILL be ALL worthwhile in the end and it's gonna look ab-fab :Pinkbounc

I'll tell Paul that I can't work for the next 10 weeks because I have to keep going to see Annie to get her out of the house ;) ;)

LOL though at Astrid's comment I am now imgaining Darryl as this Demolition Dan - does he have a hard hat ? ;) :p

Hi Craig - why on earth was Artex all the rage all those years ago? I've decided that the next room - dining room - will be done while we're on holiday in May

Shirley - after many trips to different DIYs and paint shops, I think I've found exactly the colours I'm looking for . . . but that's just for the lounge so am now working on the hall and landing and then Katie's bathroom tiles:rolleyes: I did discover some brilliant little paint stickers instead of the colour pots to try - there in a pack of 10 in different series of colours and they're removable so you stick them on the wall or wherever you want to paint. We have a lot of open brickwork in our lounge so it was important to get the right colour paint to show it off - as well as other parts of the lounge which are not bricky, so moving these sticky paints splats around was really useful:D

Sam - I'm sure Paul won't mind . . when a friend's in need and all that:p

Astrid - Demolition Dan:headache: is at it as we speak:tongue: Most of the bathroom and toilet and dividing wall were 'dismantled' yesterday (in other words the sledgehammer was in full swing), but he's still banging and crashing around in there this morning :faint: Apparently the ceiling's got to come down to get to move the pipe's around.

I won't post pictures like Tim has, don't know how and it's too terrifying a site for a Sunday morning, anyway. Especially as Darryl's got one of Katie's scuba masks on . . . now that picture I might post if someone could tell me how:teeth:
