I know I am going to get "flamed"

Hi Kim.

I am sure that there will be another deal for those who are going in Dec. I have a feeling that there will be another great deal such as this FT or maybe even better as the end of the year approaches...Im sure Disney will want to lure more people in. But either way...it's good that you're still going.

I am quite serious about saving money on WDW trips. So serious, in fact, that we joined DVC a couple of years ago. No more worries about discounts, codes, etc., it's already taken care of. When I heard about this promo, I thought, "good, maybe this will bring attendance up and Disney can recover from the last couple of years". And then this little voice in the back of my head said "but it's going to be more crowded this summer when we're there". Can't win them all.

I'm so glad someone else (lots of someone else's) think the same way I do. Face it Disney is expensive, if you are lucky tot get a code or discount good for you, I'm happy you are able to enjoy some savings. I think people should consider discounts what they are a "sale" on rooms/packages that Disney has too much inventory on. They are not going to include every resort, every day. If it works out that they have a "sale" great, but don't count on it for your vacation because you may be disappointed.;)

Kim,
I think it is wonderful the way you think!
I always think it is a good idea to book what you can afford, and if a discount comes out, it's like a gift :)
I feel.... you cannot be disappointed if you dont expect anything :)

and if you dont expect anything, you will appreciate the **Pixie Dust** even more!!!!!! :)

Laura :)

wow, only ... 71 days til my next trip to WDW! :)

I would never flame you for good sound advice, as in "booking what you can afford". Do I follow it? Probably not. I do book in 'hope' of a discount. I paid $109- code rate in peak season- for CSR. I thought it was worth it, but I would not pay more. I paid what it was worth. In FL you can stay in 4 star hotels all day long for 159.00. Would I pay 199.00 plus tax for a standard view room at AKL- pick me up when I'm done laughing! I did pay $99 rack rate, regular season for ASSp- no way was it worth it! Bottom line, these resorts are overpriced-you are paying for staying "on property"-that's about it. Flame away!

No flame from me either. In the summer we stay at Fort Wilderness, I always book with a AAA rate if there is a code great (generally there is not). When we go in winter we generally stay at POFQ, and again we know we can afford that resort, if a discount comes, that is terrific, I have more in my budget for meals....
Let's remember this is a vacation, it should be fun, we should get rid of the stress, not get more.

I'm with you on this one -- it just happens that I've always come up with one. I book the room I want pretty much expecting I'll get the rate down (always have). If one day it doesn't work out -- I'll be bummed, not angry though. I have in my mind what a room is worth to me, and if I ever didn't get the discount I wanted I'd probably change to a cheaper resort rather than pay more than I was comfortable paying.

I'm with you, no flamming here. I've been plan this vaction with my DS for some time now. I haven't been to WDW in 10 years, my ds has never been. I saved my money made my resv. about 2 months ago and only found these boards last month. I knew nothing of codes and disconts except for the DC which is no llonger. So I see this FT pkg. as iceing on the cake, I might see if I can upgrade to AK or save the money for our next trip. I can't aford to go twice a year and even once a year might be hard being a single parent.
Don :D

Even though I am hoping for discounts for my Nov trip (last Thanksgiving they were great), I would probably keep these ressies regardless. Unless, of course, someone smashes into my van again:D

We are booked with a woods view at WL for four nights at about 222.00 a night (including tax). We do have the money. We want to stay at WL for the decorations, it's my son's b-day and my DH has been dying to stay there! If we dont' get a discount, it will probably just mean there won't be as much money to go towards subsequent trips.

I think it's okay to hope for a discount, but be willing to pay rack rate or have a back up plan of some sort, if it doesn't work out. As long as you don't set yourself up for major disappointment. It has happened to me a few times.I have had to downgrade because "something" comes up (like the VAN incident!)

But, there are times when I've gotten lucky!!! I was booked at ASMu last year for my b-day and when the codes came out, DH said to change it to AKL!!

I still think the resorts are over- priced, but the truth is that I've enjoyed all my stays (even when I had to pay rack rate).

no flames here, either
i like your philosophy
i do hope you do end up with a code
i will keep my fingers crossed for you
