I just have to vent my stress

I know that this may seem ridiculous to many but I am so stressed out about our cruise next Thursday and the testing requirement. We fly down to Disney on Monday and my family is visiting the Magic Kingdom on Wednesday and then we board our ship on Thursday. One of the families is already out since their daughter tested positive yesterday. My girls have not seen the young lady in more than 2 weeks but everyone in this house is out working everyday. One of mine works retail and is besides herself about monkeypox on top of it. She is convinced that she is going to get it by touching clothes from the try on room. She is my anxiety prone child. Last night I snapped at her and told her to stop watching Tik Tok videos.

On top of it all Royal Caribbean decides to get rid of testing on cruises less than 6 days starting August 8th but that does me no good for next Tuesday when we will be testing. I just want to go on this trip but I am feeling like it is not going to happen. Just need some good vibes for the next week.

Everyone have a great day :)

Sorry you are stressed. Our own summer vacation got derailed at the last minute due to a positive covid case. I was able to reschedule for later in the summer, but it took a couple of days of rebooking everything, and costs more now for flights and car rental. And even though it was in our household, only one person ever had it. So I will be worried one of the rest of it could come down with it to mess up our re-do. If the 2nd attempt doesn't work, we won't be able to push it any further because of school starting. If there is anything I've learned in the past couple of years, it's that you have to be flexible and ready to make changes with travel plans. I hope everything works out for you!

I wonder why the arbitrary, if a cruise is less than 6 days no testing required? We have put off cruising until all this testing and masking is behind us. Covid is never going away clearly so we just need to learn to deal with the unexpected. As a Type A planner, that is very stressful for me which is why we aren't trying to cruise yet. I wish you good health and happy sailing.

We are supposed to be on the fantasy right now, but cancelled due to covid exposure. Seems to be a good bit of people in quarantine on the ship right now, so there is definitely covid on the ship.

Unfortunately, right now is a terrible time to try and cruise due to covid. The new variant is so contagious that if you do manage to stay covid free to board the ship, you may end up catching it while onboard.

All you can do is be realistic. Try and stay covid free right now and then take precautions while on the ship. We had covid a couple months ago, so we feel comfortable cruising and will probably book another cruise on the fantasy in a couple weeks. But, if I was traveling with a family member with health issues, I would cruise another time.

Sorry to hear about your cancellation.

What is the policy at this point if you need to cancel due to exposure to covid?
Can you just call DCL and move your cruise without losing money that close to the cruise?
Or did you need to put in a claim on travel insurance?

We are debating a last minute cruise but not sure the stress is worth it.

Within 14 days of sailing, you can cancel or rebook with no penalties if you have covid or covid symptoms, or have covid exposure. You have to call DCL or your travel agent to cancel for covid.

I think the thought is since it takes 3-5 days from exposure to symptoms, they won't have as many people in quarantine and have to refund their money.

To the OP, we just got off a cruise on Monday. I was a little worried about testing, we had two non-family members going with us, and when I got word from both that they were negative, there was a big sigh of relief. Then I find out one of them doesn't have the documentation that she's negative, but it will come within 48 hours. That's fine, she's still negative and we had ~60 hours before the cruise.

We're sitting at the airport waiting for our flight (24 hours before the cruise) and find out the one without documentation DOESN'T know she's negative. They're still waiting on the result. I have her call (she's 19). "Nope, don't have result, you'll have it tomorrow". Oh crap. So quickly schedule an online proctored test for 8:15 the next morning. At 10p that night (18 hours before the cruise, we're already in Orlando), the results come in and she's negative.

As mentioned, it is what it is at this point. My plan if we had to cancel was do a "staycation" if we found out before our flight, or find a hotel or VRBO w/swimming pool and make the best out of the vacation.

We sailed on The Magic July 6th-18th. We started wearing masks again in public 2 weeks before. We wore them in Europe until boarding day faithfully. We took tests the night before and the morning of the cruise, so we were fairly confident we were negative going in to test day of.
Honestly, if you're going to Disney World before, you should really consider wearing them the entire time. The numbers are high in Orlando right now.

Also, bring your own hand sanitizer into DW and use it like crazy. They don't have the same amount of sanitizing stations like they did last year.

I know its hard not to stress but I have taken 5 cruises since cruising has restarted and was anxious with them all. Luckily, all were negative pre cruise. The latest, for the Wish, was done in our WDW hotel room 2 days before we boarded. The four of us were all waiting and a great big whew....when negative results came in.

I tested positive 2 days after being home after testing negative once after cruise. Can't say I got it onboard or at WDW before cruise or on the plane on the way down, or at the supermarket before the airport. Who knows since there is no definitive incubation period! Everything I saw said between 2 and 14 days. Had minor symptoms and all better now. I would sail again this year if the opportunity presented it.

If it's not going to happen due to Covid, I would MUCH rather know in advance by testing rather than fall sick onboard and need to be isolated in my cabin.

Wear your masks between now and when you board. We cruise in less than 4 weeks and we're going to start wearing masks starting next week.

We bought mask lanyards for our WDW last May and they worked great for the on/off nature of mask wearing then: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08H85M69L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You know lots of people are in quarantine on the ships right now AFTER testing negative to get on, right? You can test negative to get on the ship and start showing symptoms on the ship. No guarantees with this variant.

Well, having just gone through Covid, I would absolutely use a high quality mask in the days leading up to your trip to give you the best possible chance. We were diligent maskers on the way to our resort in Mexico and on the way back. Less than 5% of ppl were masked in both of our opinions....on flights or in airport.

We now strongly believe that my husband contracted Covid at a fairly crowded outdoor buffet roughly 60 hours or so before he came down with symptoms. This is a very transmissible variant. I got it about 60 hours after him. We lucked out in that it did not affect our trip, *but*, it for sure would have had we contracted Covid on the way down or in the day or two leading up to our trip. He was pretty sick for 2-3 days, and then I was pretty sick for 2-3 days....fever, aches, chills, cough, congestion. So that would have wiped out at least 5-6 days of our 8 day trip.

I don't want to get Covid again after the experience....and will be super, super careful in the week or so before your next trip to Costa Rica. This time we have a direct flight...and will again to do our best to only take off that mask for a few secs here and there for a sip of water, only when the flight is at cruising altitude and that filtration system is as good as it will get. Once in Costa Rica...we'll eat outdoors....and avoid any crowded gatherings.

When I cruised last, I tested using a PCR test 3 days before departure and was tested again at the port using an antigen test right before boarding. Now, people are testing 2-3 days in advance using antigen tests which do not catch a new infection that can manifest a couple days after boarding. But, at least that testing does catch some infections which are more established.

I caught covid at the key west airport in May. My symptoms started on a Monday. I did not test positive on an antigen test until Wednesday night and I was very sick all 3 days. The antigen tests are just not as good as the PCR tests they used to use. Lots of covid getting on the ship.

When I was preparing for surgery I asked everyone to go the extra mile in precaution. They all worked and used the train etc. so they used the best masks and cleaned hands more than usual, I cleaned the house more thoroughly and frequently and it worked. I made it through the process of surgery and healing with a little teamwork and effort. Family also tested using those government provided tests every now and then which totally put my mind at ease. Maybe some extra steps would help you with the concerns you have.

And getting off the ship too. I heard the podcast for the Dis this week and I believe Pete said that 25% of the people doing back to back cruises on the Wish recently....couldn't board the second cruise as they tested positive...coming off the ship.
