Ok I sit here trying to figure out where to book my ADR's for. I need all your help since it seems like many of you are Disney experts. Here is what we have

2 adults and 2 kids both age 6. Neither one is picky so that makes it nice and easy.

Also was wondering will we be allowed to make 2 seperate ressies if we want to split up and go to seperate dinners?

So any help with where to book and what are nice times to try to get would be great.

I think if it's your first time, then the Crystal Palace in MK is a nice place to have a meal & see all the Pooh characters. It's a buffet so not fantastic, but always something to find that someone will like. Chef Mickeys is also a great character buffet at the Contemporary where you can see Mickey & all his friends. Again I don't think the food is all that great, but a fun character meal. Didn't say whether your kids were boys or girls or one of each, but if you have a princess, eating in the castle & seeing the princesses is a great treat! Either of those places are fine for breakfast lunch or dinner.

Really there are so many fun places to eat like Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge, Prime Time Cafe at DHS or the Sci Fi at DHS where you eat in cars & they show clips of old horror flicks, and the list goes on. Just check out the menus here & see if there are any that stand out to you.

As for splitting up & making 2 different reservations, yes you can do that if you choose. Have fun!

The first thing you need to do is browse the menus of all the Disney restaurants (which Diane posted above).

* Eliminate all restaurants you know you won't like due to the menu
* Eliminate all restaurants you know you won't like due to theme or atmosphere (i.e. if you don't want character meals, or if you don't want upscale places like California Grill)
* If you're on the dining plan, cost is not an issue, but some restaurants require two dining credits instead of one - elminate any of those that you are not willing to spend two credits on
* If you're not on the dining plan, eliminate any restaurants that are not in your price range

When you reach this point, you will probably have eliminated at least 1/3 of all the WDW restaurants, and perhaps as much as half.

You can then begin to select those that jump out at you and make a list of the places you most want to visit.

After you've developed a list of places you most want to visit, you can start distributing them around your itinerary.

Before you know it, you have your list of ADRs and are ready to make the call.

This August, my DBF and I are going to Disney and its his first time! So, I tried to pick some places that have been favorites of my family and places that just seem to make the Disney experience complete. Here's our list:

-Le Cellier
-Teppan Edo
-Coral Reef
-Mama Melrose
-Sci-fi
-Chef Mickeys
-San Angel
-Whispering Canyon
-Biergarten

The only reservation I couldn't get was Ohana's

As for times, it really depends on the family - we usually do a 12pm lunch at a counter service before we leave the park to go back to the hotel to swim and rest. We save all our table services for dinner (except our chef mickey's breakfast) and we like late dinners but, since your kids are both 6, a 7:30pm dinner might not be the best. I'd shoot for around 4:30 or 5:00 for dinner so then you have a lot of time in the parks after dinner, and can leave whenever your little ones get sleepy.

thanks for all the suggestions. Please keep more coming though. I can't believe how hard it is to pick ahead of time. I so wish we didn't need reservations and could just decide the day of. I know we can do that but might not get in at the times we want.

We have a boy and a girl. Its my best friend and myself taking our children together. I know the only one that might be on the picky side is myself, but usually I can find something I will eat on every menu. As long as there is chicken/steak/prime rib I am good to go. LOL

I feel overwhelmed too! Too many choices and too much planning ahead for my taste!

Though I am no expert...

I have been looking over menu after menu for what seems like forever now :)

Here are some ideas that would be doable for girls and boys.

Ohana dinner or breakfast (or both lol)
Sci Fi at HS
Tusker House, Donalds Safari Breakfast
Kona gets great reviews (I am sooo excited to try this one)
Chef Mickeys, Crystal Palace and 1900 PF ( we are going to dinner for cinderella but we have two girls, however boys have been know to have fun there as well) Ummmmm....These are mainly aimed more towards the kiddos. I don't really do the fancy smancy stuff here :)

Also the german place in Epcot gets good reviews and is supposed to be fun(sorry cannot spell it so I am not even going to try lol). People seem to really like Boma, Yak & Yeti, Garden Grill, Cape May....and so many others ...the best advice would be to just look at the menus and reviews and talk about it, think about it (or you could just obsess about it for months like me lol) and make sure you have a back up plan! good luck!

Here are a few of our favorites you might enjoy -

Sci Fi - lunch
Tusker House - Donald's safari breakfast
Ohana - breakfast AND dinner!

Have fun!

Gosh - with two 6-year-olds there are so many great choices that you all will love! We prefer character breakfasts when we want to dine with the characters - it's a great, happy way to start the day and we prefer the food at the buffet breakfasts (other than Crystal Palace {CP}, we haven't cared for character dinners too much). CP, Chef Mickey's (CM), 'Ohana, 1900 Park Fare and Cape May Cafe all have nice buffet breakfasts with fun character interaction. The kids will love any of these, I'm sure (and you will love watching them!).

As a previous poster said, Sci-Fi is a fun atmosphere, as are Whispering Canyon Cafe and the 50's Prime Time Cafe. Many of the countries around the World Showcase have nice restaurants, depending on what ethnic foods you like. We like Restaurant Marrakech, Rose and Crown Pub, and Le Cellier, although the last is popular and hard to get. The Teppan Edo (Japan) is very good, but we have great Japanese food at home and like to try something different in the World.

As WillCAD said, check out the menus - that's the first thing I did before our first trip (8 trips ago!). Eating dinner before 6 seems to be easier, as are earlier breakfasts. CP and CM are tricky to get no matter what time, though...

Good luck and have a great time planning and on your vacation!

THANKS so much. I am writing all these down and checking and checking. I guess I just hate the idea that I have to book so far ahead. What if the weather isn't what we hoped for, what if we aren't quite hungry yet, or better yet have to hop busses & what not to go to that park/hotel where dinnner is. Is that a problem you all run into?

Also what is cheaper to buy if we need to? B'fast or dinner? We will want to do a couple b'fast, and by doing that we would us our TS for the day.

Ok now what CS would you all recommend. If I remember correctly Peco Bills had a great taco salad (up my ally) and Cosmic Rays was good. Other than that I don't remember anything special for TS.

In Animal Kingdom we love Flame Tree BBQ. In Epcot, especially World Showcase, there are a few CS options we've enjoyed. Morocco is our fave, but we've also enjoyed Mexico and China.

Definitely pay for the breakfasts out of pocket if you're planning more than one TS per day. They're cheaper than the dinner buffets.

We try and do one of the following each day...

Very small breakfast at the resort, late buffet breakfast at the park 10:30am and then a dinner at 5ish. The most important thing is to stay hydrated throughout the day

Or we do a normal everyday breakfast at the resort (think what you would give your child for breakfast before school), lunch at 12ish and dinner at 5ish at the park.

We never seem to be hungry for 3 full meals with the heat.

I would also let each of the kids pick out a meal that will be special for them also.

Most of all, don't stress over it. Find food you like, make the ADR and have fun!
