I just don't feel good.

*sigh* Last Thursday, I had laproscopic gallbladder surgery. I have been having gallbladder symptoms (right abdominal pain that wraps around to my shoulder, nausea and vomitting) since the end of September, and after plenty of tests and doctor's visits (to both a GI specialist and a surgeon), I finally had surgery. Of course, the first two days after surgery were uncomfortable, but I had the prescribed Percocet and made sure to rest and limit my activities-I was really feeling okay. However, Monday evening came around, and I started to feel *off*. Very blurry and then very nauseated and ended up literally spending the night on the floor of the bathroom with episodes of vomitting. I got in touch with my surgeon's office at 8am Tuesday morning for some phenergan (for the nausea), and she tells me that the Percocet could very well be making me sick so she changes my pain meds to Darvocet. Since then, I have no appetite, feel sick everytime I attempt to eat something, jerk awake minutes after falling asleep and not able to sleep for more than 3 hours at a time, and have persistent flank pain with wrap-around to shoulders. I feel very flu-like. I have no fever, and my incisions are all healing nicely. I just cannot pinpoint what exactly is wrong. I have had chronic back/leg pain for the past two years and am on disability for it, and since my stomach has been so upset, I haven't been able to take my daily maintenance doses of meds for my back. I can't decide if it's just pain from my surgery that the Darvocet isn't touching or if it's my back pain flaring up or if it's the same pain that I have felt BEFORE surgery.

Grrrrrr! I have absolutely no energy and can't seem to get any restful sleep. My husband is worried about me and doesn't know how to help. Nothing makes me feel better! Just need to vent...Thanks for listening!

I think you should go in to see your surgeon. I had gallbladder issues many years ago and I know how miserable that can make you feel!

It sounds like you should get check out for infection or other illnesses. When I had my gall bladder troubles surgery---I limited my fats and kept a bland diet (avoided most spices, butter, drank flat Slice/Sprite/water, limited caffiene, and avoided my trigger foods). I was sick for a least a month or so after surgery which made things difficult during our move down to NC.

I also remember using a pillow to help support my stomach for a week or so when getting up.

I'd go back to the surgeon & request and abdominal x-ray to rule out an internal abcess or something along those lines.

usually people do very well after a lap.chole., so your difficulty is kind of unusual.

Sorry to hear you are in such pain after your surgery. I ahd my gall bladder out a few years ago but wasnt as lucky to have the lap surgery so I now sport a lovely scar.
I would agree that a visit to the surgeon is probably in order so he can follow up and make sure something else like a possible infection isn't going on.

I had similar symptoms and ended up in the ER because I was so dehydrated. They did tests to make sure I didn't have an infection in my abdomen and checked to make sure that no stones had gotten stuck in my duct.
Turns out I had caught a virus of sorts from my brother and the combination of that and the nausea/vomiting caused me to become severly dehydrated.
I was pumped full of IV fluids and this lovely yellow anti-nausea medication and it took me a few weeks to feel better completely.

Maybe you were run down from the surgery and you now have the flu.....I cannot take those pain meds.. they make me ill..

Can you maybe switch to something like tylenol or advil. Maybe even the darvocet is too strong right now for your tummy which seems to be upset. They always say with pain pills you have to eat but when you do not feel good, you do not feel like eating and the pills make you sick..

If you continue like this, I would go to the surgeon and have it checked out.

This was my thought. I'd go back and make them run at least an ultrasound.

I had laparoscopic gallbladder surgery in October, I did not need any pain meds after I left the hospital (the same day as the surgery) so it seems odd that you would still need the pain meds 1 week later. I would definitely go in to see the doctor. Less than 1 week after my surgery I worked a 41 hour week with no problems at all (I usually only work 20 hours a week) so it seems that there may be something else going on. Hope you feel better soon!
