...store-brand, 2-ply, double roll, quilted TP and, quite frankly, do not expect to be going back to the higher-priced, nationally-recognized brand. :teeth: aaaah! (TMI?)

Actually, I have loads of fave generics that I prefer over the upmarket competitors...

how about you, have you got fave generics?
;)

Some store brands are rather good. I like our store brand Sprite better than Sprite or 7-up, it actually tastes like a combo between the two of them. Our store brand applesauce is good too. I like our store brand film... comes out just as good as Kodak or Fuji for much less the price.

I just did a project on store brand Rice Krispies but those things were nasty! :p

The Wal-Mart brand refrigerated cookie dough. It has many more chocolate chips than the Pilsbury brand. Chocolate chips are the first item on the ingredient list verses flour. Yummy!

I prefer generic prescriptions.:teeth: But I rarely go on meds, so I guess that doesn't count or does it?:p

MY DW is willing to buy some generics but will ONLY consider branded TP with aloe :jester: :jester: ......

Doctor, I just KNEW you were the sensitive type. :)

I buy almost everything generic including peanut butter ! The only time i stick to brand names are breakfast cereals, specialty coffee, TP, puffs tissue and cat food.

Kroger brand Chunk Light Tuna in water. I like it so much better than any Brand name tuna.....:D

My latest thing to buy generic is shampoo and conditioner. I discovered the generic brand in Sally's Beauty Supply - they sell all the stuff they sell in the hair salons, with the exact same ingrediants, but much cheaper. Love generic!

Generics are all made by the leading name brand manufacturers. You can usually figure out which one on most things. Cereals are the easiest, because if they are made by Kellogs, they will have a small "k" in their lable, and those made by Post, will have a small "p". Things such as Peanut butter, jelly, pickles, etc. etc. can be determined first by the shape of the container.

I love Genuardi's generic brand french vanilla instant coffee beverage (International Coffee). That's the only "International Coffee" I'll buy.

I also like Giant brand olives, pickles, fudge stripped cookies, peanut butter (for my dog), block cheese (for my dog), boxed mac and cheese, fat free saltine crackers, cat food (for the stray cats outside),jams, preserves, canned grean beans and canned beets. :)

I read in Consumer Digest, years and years ago, that if you're going to buy canned vegies, buy "no frill" brands because they are processed less and use less salt for preservatives. I'm not sure if that's still the same, but I do it anyway when I buy green beans or beets. :)

I buy generic just about any time I can. I cook from scratch a lot, so I don't buy a lot of the same products that most people buy, but I've never had a problem with generic tomato products, pasta, or anything like that. I did buy the Publix brand Grape Nuts the other day and had to throw them out. Maybe they were just out of date and stale, but they were gross.

I thought that the K and P on cereals had to do with being kosher. I thought that k stood for kosher and that p stood for that word that means it has dairy ingredients and not meat.

that is labeling for kosher food. it has nothing to do with brands.

i buy some generics, especially batteries. the store brand of batteries works just as well and they are so much cheaper.

I tried buying the generic Fruit Loops that come in the bag. I put them in an empty Fruit Loops box and my kids knew the difference right away.

Here was their response; "there's something wrong with this cereal, it doesn't taste right!"

No more generic cereal for us!

It all depends on the product, Ukrop's which is a local grocery store chain exclusive to Virginia, has some excellent generic versions.

Publix has good wheat bread and raisin bran.

Milk -- I prefer Winn Dixie, Albertson's and Pulix brands over name brands. Wal Mart has awful milk.

Publix recycled paper towels.

I buy generic OTC drugs almost always.

That's about it that I KNOW I can trust. I've never had luck with generic canned veggies.

I thought I read a Consumer Report once that found that name brand batteries were a much better value.

Just because a generic product is made by a name-brand company doesn't mean it is the same quality. I mean, Eukanuba makes Iams, but Iams is a lower-quality version.

Generic pet food is GARBAGE. There's actually an "Ol' Roy Syndrome." Unfortunately, Ol' Roy is the best-selling dog food in America.
