Is it true that you can go to the parks with a 5 day php (which is what we have) and then decide you want to have it switched over to an annual pass? How does this work? Where do you do it? Thanks...you'd think we'd know after 11 trips....Sue
You are allowed to upgrade passes at any time. Just take the unused days of your PHP and you can apply those days to the cost of a better pass, such as an AP. You can do this at any of the park's Guest Relations or at any of the Resort's Guest Services.
If you are within 7 days of the first use of the pass, or if it's an unused pass, you should be able to apply most or all of the purchase price toward the cost of an annual pass. If you bought your Hoppers direct from Disney (Disney World, Disney Store, etc.) you should get the full purchase price applied toward an upgrade (or a prorated share if the pass has some days used on it.)
If you bought the pass from a third-party vendor like Ticketmania or Florida Orlando Tickets, you will get about 85-90% of your purchase price. These vendors buy passes at wholesale prices and then apply their own markup to turn a profit. Disney will only give you the wholesale price toward your upgrade.
Upgrades can only be handled at the Guest Services desk at the four theme parks or Downtown Disney. Resorts are not equipped to issue Annual Passes to guests.
If you decide to upgrade within 7 days of the first use of the PHP pass, you can get the full purchase price applied to the purchase of an annual pass (or longer PHP pass). The annual pass will be backdated to the first day you used the original PHP. There are some caveats to be aware of. TJkraz told you about the situation if you purchasedthe PHP pass from someone other than Disney. Note also that if you have used any of the plus options, you can only upgrade to a Premium Annual Pass.
There is a lot of good valid information on upgrading over on AllEarsNet. Here's a link to get you there:
