I'm an 8th grade science teacher in Fort Worth, Texas and a new BCV member (just waiting on the closing). There is a local award given to science and math teachers (Radio Shack Teacher Scholar) and I just found out I won!

The best part is that the award comes with $2000!!!!!!

That's only $100 short of a 25 pt. add-on.

But, put it on a credit card with airline miles. Do the add-on and you'll think about your award every time you use points until 2042!

Go for it! I received a year-end bonus in February and the "add-on" bug hit me! Unfortunately, we had recently added on 30 points and DH said, "NO!" I told him he is going to regret it after our first trip home in June! Annmarie

Is the $2000 before or after taxes??? If it's before, you'll be short a lot more than $100!!! (At least you would if you lived in Minnesota).

Thank you for all of the kinds words of congratulations.

I'm definitely going to do the add-on... and use it well for the next 39 years. The check is given at a banquet on April 24, but I'll be calling well before then. As far as taxes go, I know someone who received it last year. He received some sort of statement from Radio Shack and took it to his tax preparer. It turns out that the money is considered a "gift" and we don't have to pay taxes.

My 15 minutes might prove very embarrassing since I don't like to have my picture taken or hear my voice recorded. (It's just not the way I see or hear myself. ) Yesterday, I had to go to the Radio Shack office downtown and record an "interview" so I can be blown up to gargantuan size on a video screen for the thousands of people at the banquet (the banquet also honors outstanding students). At least I won't have to speak to the thousands.... (no problems speaking to a classroom size group of people, but anything larger than that )

By the way, a good friend of mine here at school knows how much I love Disney. When she heard I won, she said "Dene' Carter, you just won the Radio Shack Teacher Scholar, what are you going to do now?" ... and we both yelled "I'm going to Disney World!!!"
