We are going to be in orlando the week of May 5-9. We will only have one free day to visit a park. I orginally thought it was a no brainer that we would go to MK since it is my fave park. Then my husband(26) mentioned that we could go to Universal since we have never been. I have gotten some negitive reviews of universal from some friends, but I know that the people on this board are experts! If I only have one day, is universal studios and island of adventure worth missing out on MK? Any advice would be great!!

I would say if you've never been before then you should definately go for it. As long as you don't mind missing out on a trip to MK.

Everyone has to make their own opinions on a place so if you do go, go with an open mind, forget any negatives you might have heard and have a great time. Its certainly diferent from MK but they are amazing parks and I don't know anyone who hasn't enjoyed it. Depending on what rides you prefer you can decide on either US or IOA but if you have the time then try and see both, though doing the 2 parks in one day doesn't really do them justice.

But if you do decide to go then have a great time :thumbsup2

I totally agree - ultimately your own individual taste will determine what you enjoy the most. My person favorite is Universal Studios, but I'm a big film buff, so that atmosphere and theming appeals to my taste. Universal cannot be topped when it comes to sets. That being said, my second favorite park is MK, and I feel there is a magic:wizard: and joy there that I don't feel is replicated in any of the other parks, as much as I love them all.

I've also noticed as I've visiting the parks over the past 12 years that each of the parks tend to have their great times and not so good times - times when maybe not everything is running as tightly as it should, or maybe some of the food is a little below par, etc. I can't actually say, though, that any of the parks, even in a down time, was so out of whack that it ruined my experience. So I do think that you would enjoy any of the parks, especially if this would be your first visit to that park.

If I were to offer any negative opinions of Universal at this time, it might be that, to me, it seems like some of the older rides/attractions might need a little freshening up. Maybe there is an effect that isn't functioning up to 100%, or the sound is a little muted, or the lighting is a little off. However, I'll also say that, if you've never seen these attractions, you'd never know anything was different, and the experience is still extremely enjoyable. And the newer attractions are, well, off the chart terrific.

So I think you might really enjoy your visit - if you do try for both parks, go for front of the line pass. It may just save you enough time from waiting in line that you can indeed see the high points of both parks (although you might want to try for an early shot at technical rehearsals for the Simpsons if Express is not up and running there yet).

I was raised on DW.Every year we would go @ least 2 times. Now with afamily we tried to do the same thing. But soon realized there is another world out there.US-SW-Busch Gardens.Don't get me wrong, I still need my DW fix every now @ then. But it was pushed on me hard when I was a kid.I still feel the magic when we go.But there is life after DW.

I would advice for you to head to the universal parks..why? you havent been to one before and its always nice to try something new.

Some ppl have told you its not good? Its something you should try for yourself and check it out.

I have encountered ppl who have said the same thing about Disney.. how boring it is , its so childish, they prefer six flags ...etc.. etc..

not everyone has the same likes and its fine... Enjoy univiersal go with an open mind, and dont compare because they are totally diifferent parks.popcorn::
have fun!:cool1:

If you have been to MK but not US/IOA then I would definitely go. There are so many great and unique rides there I think everyone should go there at least once. For me, no trip to Orlando would be complete without a day there. Make sure to have lunch at Mythos. Between the food, quality of service and price it leaves the Disney park restaurants in the dust. Don't forget to flash your AAA card for discounts on virtually all food and souveniers in the US parks.
