I have not rented points before...

...but am considering it for my Jan. '10 trip. How do I figure out how many points I need, and what is the going rate?

It's hard to say what the "going rate" for DVC points is because it depends on many factors. If the points are about to expire, the DVC member might offer them for less. On the other hand, if you are looking to make a reservation 11 months out at a popular resort at a popular time, the price/point will probably be higher. Some members bought their contract years ago when prices were lower so they may be less concerned about getting top dollar. Others bought more recently, paid dearly for those points and might be less inclined to let them go at a discount because that could mean renting them at a loss. Some owners invest a lot of time helping renters feel comfortable about the process, others will set up your reservation and that's all you get.

What is most important is to find someone you feel comfortable dealing with where you develop a sense of trust.

Also, be sure you read the "sticky" threads at the top of the Rent/Trade board before posting there. Start with the "Read me first" thread and then read the "Required Reading" threads.

Right now you can get points for a maximum of $10pp if not $8-$9 at any resort

It is amazing how far down rental prices have come.

As a renter, it is VERY good news and with this economy, I have to imagine it will continue, but I can t see it getting lower than $8pp

I think a lot of the low prices for points will cease come Oct when Developer points can no longer be used.

ALOT of the $8-$10 points are not developer points....
