Is it over? Have they gotten back to the normal amout of ill passengers on any given cruise? And I am not asking just Disney but all of the cruise lines...

the media finally found something else to focus on instead of the Norwalk virus. Seems they are now focusing on N. Korea, the gulf troops moving in and other things. I am just kidding here but it does seem funny that as soon as "bigger" new happened the Norwalk story is all but forgotten about! It is probably gone but leave it to the media to just drop the ball for something more "shock" worthy like N. Korea calling for WWIII or other things! Maybe it has run it's course and the whole thing is over...lets hope so anyway!

Exactly, Hydster. The media attention is now drawn elswhere, so it's not being blown out of proportion anymore.

The captain said that before the outbreak they were routinely at about one-half of one percent of passengers and crew ill at any given time for any given reason. He said they are required to notify the CDC at two percent, and to start taking specific actions at 3%. During the outbreak, there were cruises well over 5% and higher. I've been curious too. Have they got the problem licked, and are they back to "normal"? I would assume so, otherwise I think we would have heard more on the boards, and the media would probably still be interested. But, I'm surprised I've seen no press release or anything from DCL stating that they beat the problem, all is well, let's go cruising, etc.

Yes, they are back to normal.

No outbreaks have been reported on any Disney ship since they took the Magic out for a week to do the extra cleaning. Illness are at "normal" levels now.

The latest ship to be hit by Norwalk that I had heard about was the Norwegian ship the Norway.

Take normal precautions such as frequent hand washing (to protect against ANY illness that is spread between passengers) and go cruise. :)

I was at the hair stylist today and we were talking about my cruise, etc. One lady said I was crazy to go on a cruise, I'd get sick.. (see my counter??) I told her I had the same chance of getting the Norwalk virus on board as I did going into a hospital, a nursing home, a school, etc ... It's not the cruise ship, it's the people who don't use care when they're sick, don't wash their hands, sneeze and cough all over everyone, etc....

My professor at school took samples of common areas for his health class..... just remember to wash your hands and keep the paper towel as you open the bathroom door to leave... you'd be grossed out if you realized how many people DON'T wash their hands. eeeeuuuu
