I have lost all my leverage!

My 14 year old DD loves to be on the computer more than anything. So she cheerfully does her chores and homework (most of the time) so she can have her computer time. I limit it but do allow her to earn more by extra chores or good deeds. This works so wonderful! And when she gets snotty I just remind her that I am the one that decides if she goes on the computer or not.

But she is in the Scrapbook Club at school and they will be making the PTA scrapbook this year. And she has just informed me that SHE gets to decide which photos of me go into the scrapbook!!!

I have just lost my power!

Me: You better lose that attitude! I decide when you get on the computer and for how long!

DD: Oh yeah! Well I get to decide if that picture of your butt goes in the scrapbook! And if the picture of you on that bad hair day with your mascarra running down your face goes on the "Officers" page!


I guess that worst case we are at a stalemate.

OOOOOOOOO! I like how you think! I didn't think about that. We have an infamous photo of her called "Chicken Noodle Face" that is enough blackmail for her lifetime. And I think they make a slideshow of the kids photos for the 8th grade celebration. . .

Those are on MY computer and she better not come near it! But she did somehow have a photo of me from 3 years ago-- I have no idea why or how? They are only supposed to be using the pictures taken this year.

Oh no you didn't lose your leverage. Think about it, do you think your dd wants anything unflattering of you available for everyone to see? Just make some comment like:

"How nice for you! Since it will be displayed prominently in the office (or some other public venue) your friends will be treated to a view of what you might look like in the future. I'm sure they'll enjoy it."

I figure in any blackmail battle I win. I'm way less easy to embarrass than my kids!
