Last year, I decided to take the kids on the Disney cruise, and since that would of made 2 Disney trips in 2004, I rented our entire allotment of 2005 points, and used the cash for the cruise. I was adamant we were not going to Disney in 2005. Well, then the Member cruise came up, and I could not resist. I borrowed our entire allotment of 2006 points, now saying we are not going in 2006.
Well, as 2005 passes along, I was getting more and more bummed out that we will not be booking a trip for 2006. I do not want to get in a habit of borrowing from the next year, so I want a "catch up". Well, it dawned on me last week, as I was punching in dates to figure out points, we get 470 points a year! Since owning DVC, every year, I have booked the trip we take, and rented out or "gifted" points for other peoples reservations. We have never really used the entire 470 points for ourselves (except for the member cruise, LOL). As I was crunching the numbers, I realized just how many points 470 is for a year.
So, I now realize, we CAN go in 2006, by just borrowing half of 2007 points, and still have 2007 points for a 2007 trip! I just need to stop being so generous with our points. Happy dance happy dance!
