I've known Dan for a few years now. I've met and spent time with him at WDW. I can tell you that Dan is a really nice person. He is, however, a passionate person. If you wrong him or someone he cares about, he will stand up to them.

I remember one of his visits to WDW. My daughter and I met him at the MK. My daughter was just getting over a bad case of bronchitis. There was a guy walking along smoking. He wasn't even trying to find a smoking section. The smoke from his cigarette sent my daughter into a terrible coughing fit. Dan asked the guy to put out his cigarette. The guy refused and just smirked at Dan. Dan gave him an earful. I didn't blame him at all. He told the guy what I was thinking. When someone is hurting or needs help, Dan will be the first to offer support.

Obviously, I like Dan very much. We have talked about his days as a moderator on the DIS. Let's just say that his decision to step down from being a moderator did not come easily. He had very good reasons. Dan used to post a lot on the DIS. Now days, he posts very little. He is saddened, as are many, with some of the things that have happened over the past couple of years.

I don't blame Dan for reacting to this latest personal attack. I'm sure he was angry. I lay the blame with those that don't have enough respect to leave him alone. They know very well how he feels about the tag. That tag has a very special meaning to him. He doesn't need to explain the back story of his tag or his reasons for wanting it left alone to anyone. He just needs to receive common courtesy from those who control this board.

Okay, I can understand someone being upset, frustrated, annoyed .... whatever name you want to put on it.

But why would you start a thread using language like the opening post

A thread like this will accomplish nothing except for possibly making people look at the original poster in a different way than they used to.

I've always heard that in order to make something change you have to complain to someone who can actually do something about it.

Grumbling to the DISboards at large will not get you the results that you want.

Won't change my opinion about Dan one bit. He is a great Disser! And how does one contact the offending Tag Fairy? There is no button to click on to PM her/him/it. Nothing is being done by TPTB, so what is left other than to put it "out there"?

Oh please, this isn't the first not-so-nice word that has come across these boards. If TPTB thought this was unacceptable language for the Dis, they would have set the filter on it and it would have looked like this. "****". Can't be worse than a 4 page thread about Diva Cups!

Doesn't the tag fairy have the approval of the moderators? Otherwise how could they access whatever they need to access to put the tags in?
The whole thing about tags and people begging for tags seems kind of juvenile to me. Especially if they gave someone a tag to insult/offend/bother them. Really, time to grow up tag fairy!

I would think so, too, but do all of them approve of harassing Dan? I would hope one of them would have the decency to put a stop to this. Of course, that assumes that whoever appoints the mods would also have the decency to put a stop to it.

Just a short re-visit to the subject.

A few thoughts. The only type of individual/s who can alter/edit a member's profile, details and/or options is/are administrators, wm's and/or so-called super-moderators (typically one who is neither an administrator nor a wm and generally are assigned to the tech board). Adding or changing the wording in an avatar area, so-called tag here, is an alteration/edit of one's details. That is the limited group that can make those changes, unless they have given additional levels of regular moderator types to have that level of access.

As for 'what did the tag say', as in all, or certainly most of those tag things that posters have changed in their detail area, it was something I said, and have said a number of times, both here on these boards, and RL, in response to a prior poster saying something similar, tongue in cheek. So it was not something that somebody from that limited group did in putting words in my mouth, or saying something not say, not at all. Nothing sinister. What is was, again, was doing something intentionally to irritate a poster, in this case, me.

I have made my thoughts known for many years, probably going back maybe seven or so years ago, when they started that altering, that I wanted no part of it. They know it, every one of them. Back one time when one of them was doing it repeatedly...he changed it, I (without making a 'scene' like this), changed it back. He changed it again. I changed it. After maybe a half dozen alterations back and forth, I, in private, emailed the head guy here, Pete, and asked him to kindly call off his bulldog. He did. And no problems for some years. But then there are others. They know my thoughts. As for 'just change it back', from experience, that does not work. As for contacting them, that does not work. As for posting here, on this forum, the other forums are all topic specific. If this was posted on one of the forums I more prefer today, it would either be deleted, or moved here, to this forum or the tech forum.

Maybe I get pissy here at times. If so, maybe that's just me. Or maybe, over the years here, that is the way I have become 'conditioned' here. Who knows. I try to follow the rules, help a bit where I can, enjoy the original spirit of Disney fun that created this board in the first place, and the majority of the folks who make up these boards. I have met many of the folks here over the years, so many nice people. A few stinkers? Sure, in any group this large. Family is important to me, my RL family, Marie, my kids and grandkids. And my DIS family too, sometimes though difficult, means a lot to me also. I simply ask to be left alone, not harassed, intentionally, out of meanness.

Simple? I think it is.

Well, after reading Dan's explanation, it is obvious that someone is harassing him. I thought if he deleted the tag and moved on, that would have taken care of it. Since he said that someone would keep changing it back after he deleted it, then it's obviously not an accident.

I would have been mad if that happened to me too. I'm just surprised that the owner of the board allows someone to keep doing that.
